I went to the Badger/Carroll game last night.  Carroll hung in there, and the 20 point spread didn't happen until the last 3 minutes of the game.  Even though Carroll lost a couple guys, they'll be right up there.  Colomy had 25, and has a sweet outside shot.  They were undersized but they grabbed quite a few rebounds and were very scrappy.  Good job Carroll, you impressed many a Badger fan!  Way to represent the MWC at the Kohl!

Thanks for the input...."The Roop" and PointSpecial.  There's nothing more exhilirating than going to a packed gym with rabid hometown fans!!!!!!  Roop, how about sweet corn sales (with real butter) at the Flood?

Hope is not a strategy.   Gillespie must make wholesale changes and get a few of those great athletes to extract their egos or it will be more of the same.  No team concept, none.

I never said hope was a strategy.....as a fan, I hope (me hope, not speaking for anyone else) they figured it out.

Good point about the egos....I never mentioned that part.  I do believe that Coach G some how let last years team run too freely.  It is the coaches job to stuff those egos from the start, but the player have just as much responsability to snuff their ego also.  Ripon does need to put away their personal goals and do what is best for the TEAM.

Proof of my prior comments long time ago that Schepler is not a loss.  Toshner is, but Schepler was am impediment to their success in my opinion.

Good job Carroll.  Did someone get Schultz some new pants at half time?

I see a few problems with that. 1. It's simply not right to sell it indoors 2. It would be out of season and expensive 3. Think of the mess it would make.

T2K,

From memory, Flood Arena is named after James Flood. I'll read the plaque about him next time I'm there. Beyond that all I can say is he either did something famous or donated a bunch of money. The schools website doesn't say anything about him.

I thought maybe the Rock River ran past it and every 100 years you had to vacate.  Let me know.

There was a very nice man who was the AD at UW-Oshkosh in the 1980's named Jim Flood.  He was also a great track and field coach I've been told.   I met him at an alum function and he was really a nice guy.

Actually the river is just across the street but the arena is up on a hill same as Alexander. So if the water ever got that high I wouldn't want to be around.

AndOne- Monmouth will host nationally ranked Coe College Friday night at 6:30. The Kohawks are picked to repeat as the champions of the Iowa Conference. In their previous scrimmage, Monmouth took 2 halves and tied one with Rockford. 52-35, 42-24, 35-35.

Nationally ranked Coe College coached by one Pat Juckem...

I seem to remeber him being a pretty good assistant coach at a school somewhere in this conference...but what one?

"Nationally Ranked Coe?" Their 11 votes put them in 51st place. I'm not sure they are considered ranked unless they are in the Top 25.

Larry U:

I saw the preseason poll a few days back.  A key question for the board is whether or not LU still has the #1 ranked managers in the country, the Angels, or did they all graduate?

Even IWU will agree with the 2006 rankings of the Angels as #1.

If you know, let us know.

Any thoughts on how Beloit might do this year? I see they are ranked in the middle of the MWC by the coaches poll, but without Jodsh Hinz that may be a little optimistic. Coach Youngblood hasn't really gotten the job done at any time during his stay at Beloit. It hurts to know Beloit grad John Tharp ended up elsewhere with Beloit mediocre or worse since Coach Knapton announced his retiirement.

Roop: depends on which poll you look at. They are 17th in the DIII News poll, receiving votes on this one. Therefore, they are nationally ranked.

Coincidence or not but a full time AD arrives at Beloit and suddenly they have two good recruiting years.  Perhaps the administration is not running people off as much as they used to. I'm sure Hinz will be talked about alot but I'm not sure how much he will be missed on the court. Horton seems ready to take his place and keep in mind that he's more or less a junior having attended a JC before coming to Beloit. A year older, a year wiser etc.

If they take care of business by winning the ones they should then they will be in the MWC Tournament, just as they would have been last year had they done so. The FRESHMEN will be counted on for lots of minutes and despite their talent some inconsistentcy came be expected. So how much depth they have is hard to say.
