i was at the game...and only 1 of Horton's 1st 3 fouls was legit. The foul in the 2nd half that gave him his 4th was totally bogus. He was on the guy that drew the foul but was backing away when either Fiek or Hedry stepped in and fouled the guy. The ref gave to Andy and he wasnt even part of the contact.

It seemed to me the Beloit players just werent ready to play. Once they decided to play they held MSOE to only 20 pnts in the 2nd half. If they would have started the game like that it most definatly would have been a win. They got down by 19 with in the 1st 10 mins and had to fihgt their way back into it. They got it to 3 several times but gave up some bad offensive rebounds and a cpl of late turnovers.

Dowden played well and if Horton could have stayed in the game they couldnt have stpped hime. Hendry got to the line but couldnt make a driving layup....he has to get better. Fiek was solid. . the bench has to get better or this team will struggle all year...And MSOE is a pretty good team. They have some nice players.

hopefully someone will have a report of the Augie game next tues. cant make that one. We'll see em again at Whitewater. BTW i saw Whitewater on Fri...They looked terrific. Cant imagine theres a better team than them in the WIAC

d3bbfan,

Do you still think that after they lost to Illinois Wesleyan?  You've got to look at the competition... there isn't a team in the WIAC that will be rolled over like WW rolled over Martin Luther.  They simply are not a WIAC caliber team.

NGC is airing a program tonight about Russian Bigfoots. One possible explanation is that a relic population of neanderthal man still lives there. Sure is funny how I blogged about that not long ago on Roopsville. Wonder where they got their idea from ??

On a basketball note. I'm glad Whitewater plays Marian before Beloit. Hopefully they will take their 1 point loss to IWU out on them and look past Beloit.

d3bbfan,

Martin Luther was very, very weak, just as Clarke - the team Illinois Wesleyan crushed in the Whitewater tournament - was.

UW-Whitewater is a very good team, but I wouldn't base any opinions off of a game vs Martin Luther.

Even though this is the first game of the year, many LU players are gearing up for it as if it were mid february.  Quoted from a vetern LU bball player "this game will tell a lot about the team.  If we win, look out everyone and if we lose it may show that much work is needed to be a tier 1 team."  Either way, I feel that the vikings can be as good as they wish to be, they just have to trust in their ability.  Look for them to really guard the perimeter as point can be lights out if they start hot.

Also, new rims this year, no more 2nd half advantage :)

Lawrence is getting hammered about 4 minutes into the second half..down 16 or so

the college station announcer just mentioned in passing that LU beats Stevens Point handily if they play later in the year  :D

proved wrong...LU woke up in the second half, had it to a point and lost.

CCIW had its way with the MWC tonight, although I think there were some good signs looking at some of the boxes. IC hangs with Illinois Wesleyan and that's not an easy palce to play. SNC's top two scorers tonight are both freshman. IC looks deep and could contend now, SNC may grow into a good team this season.

Lawrence mounted a big comeback.

This is back to back 3 point losses at home for Lawrence. Does the world not end now ??

I think this will be a good loss for LU. Not one of those focus losses, because I don't think they know what they had going into tonight yet anyway. Its tough to have an untested team without an identity that is ranked that high.

I am sure there will be plenty of tinkering with the lineup and minutes, not too mention more play from some freshman over the course of the season and I wouldn't be surprised to see LU work there way back toward the top 10 by the end of the season. Until then, don't be surprised if they blow a big lead, lose to an average team or cant close out a game (the anti LU of a year ago). This team's structure is significantly different than last year's, but possibly could be more talented and deeper in the end.

Beloit suffered another big loss to Augustana today 69-52.   With Whitewater coming up next, Beloit doesn't have too good a chance to win this one either.  It might be hard for them to get off to a start when you go 0-3 in the first 3 games of the season.  This could very quickly turn into a long season for Beloit if they don't make a change.

What type of change would you suggest they make?

The big positive for the Bucs appears to appears to be that based on the results so far the good old MWC may flat out suck this season so they can be very mediocre and still be competitive.

Look, LU will be good because they have great coaching and have built on their success of the past 4 years.  But I said it all last year....when Braier leaves, things will be different for LU.  Things won't come as easy.  Close games won't always go their way.  Braier was a very very special player.  I've never seen a team respond to their leader like LU did with Braier....how can they be better, especially the first year after he leaves?

I know it's waaaay to early to say LU won't repeat their success of the last four years.  But remember....LU has only been great since Braier was grabbing every board and pushing his teammates in practice.  I think a bit of a reality check will come to the "confident" LU fans.  But again...it is early.

One things for sure.  Every team in the MWC and D3 for that matter should take note and play as hard as LU plays.  I will give them all the respect in the world.  I still hate them, but I respect them....but to think they will be better????
