D3's recollection of how things played  out differs from that in yesterdays local paper in regard to the timing and result of the jump ball (though both agree it seemed like a bad call) and the play by play seems to support the Pulitzer Prize worthy staff at the BDN

Regardless, I'm sure Beloit didn't get a fair shake, its been years since they did.

"Beloit looked in pretty fair shape up by eight, 83-75, with 2 minutes remaining. Judson scored the next seven points, however, to close within one on a 3-pointer by Andrew Ream with 36 seconds remaining.

The referees whistled a mystery jump ball in the backcourt, but the Eagles didn't cash in and Nick Hendry drew a foul on a rebound with 29 seconds left. His two free throws pushed it back to an 85-82 game.

The Bucs made it 87-82 on a pair of free throws by Adam Puls with 16 seconds on the clock.

The Eagles, however, didn't need much time to put points on the board at the finish. They scored with 11 seconds left and then fouled Beloit's Mike Dowden. He hit 1-of-2 free throws with 10 seconds left and Judson's Boyd needed just five seconds to convert his first of the back-to-back 3-pointers.

The same scenario seconds later gave Judson just its second victory in 13 tries this season. Beloit dipped to 1-7."

The Roop

As people have already noticed discrepancies, as I feared would happen, I might as well come clean now. The season is fixed. I won't discuss particulars but the original plan was for Beloit to sneak into the MWC Tournament at 7-9 via several tie breakers; then win the automatic bid. From there they will run the table all the way through Salem finishing the season as National Champions with a 16-15 record.

It had been arranged for Judson to cover the spread but they were not to win the game. The 1-6 record in non-conference play has been busted as Beloit is likely to be 0-7. Other arrangements will now need to be made. Hint hint. When Roop Vegas avoids a game in the future there's a good reason behind it.

d3bbfan....c'mon ~good recollection of the game, but I KNOW you can spell better than that!  I've been reading this board for awhile, and your spelling was much better last year....what happened?

In tonight's high school cross town rivalry....... Those recruits of interest to NRO-SAS 55, those not considered 32.

The recruit of primary interest did quite well and impressed the staff of a certain school that was on hand to see him. Enough so to meet with him after the game. The recruit of secondary interest (a junior) could take either of the Freemans at IWU in a 1 on 1 game right now. Therefore, I doubt he will ever play in a D3 uniform. But you never know. And there was another that didn't stand out the last time I saw him but was absolutely sick with his moves under the basket tonight.

First contact between "The Roop" and the Staff at the school in question was made at the IWU-Puget Sound game @Lawrence and I promised good things to follow. It's following.

And when The Roop scouts a game, even Jack Bennett shows up. Makes you wonder how they came out of nowhere to win back to back titles ?? As far as you know I had nothing to do with it.

Any Larry U fans make the game today.  I saw that Carthage beat LU in double overtime.  How is Point supposed to get their SOSI up (OK, I know it's not called that, but you know what I mean) if LU loses?  Now they have to go to Oshkosh as well! :P  I wasn't able to make it, and good thing, I was planning on going to the Oshkosh/St. Norb's game after that!

Very entertaining game here in Appleton last night.  LU actually played some of their best ball of season for stretches during the game.  They put 5 in double figures.  They held Schlemm and Bowens below their averages and outrebounded Carthage by a small margin.  LU typically beats teams with their depth.  That did not happen.    Carthage depth at guard hurt LU.  LU's point guard got in foul trouble.  Carthage coach was smart and spread the floor, taking advantage of a quickness edge.  LU did give up too many Offensive Rebounds the second half.

Lastly, Carthage managed to bank in two shots( a long two and long three) in the second OT to get the win.  Carthage's chemistry and defense is improved from previous years even though they have less big name players.

On the recruiting side of it, the private schools still have an advantage in actually giving a freshman playing time and graduating in 4-years,  compared to gray-shirting and sticking around for a 5th year.  I know of a BC recruit that went to the WIAC, and he was gray shirted, and was told he'll be a nice 5th year player.  His parents are not thrilled by the idea, but went with it.  The $$ signs that private schools have in their brochures usually scare off most kids/parents. If the kid is smart, most private schools can compete with state schools in the price tag area.  Unfortunately, (for the privates) the decision is already made before the financial aid package it totally figured.

I have a 17-year old that's starting to think about college.  The possible tuition-free situation sounds inviting, but is probably too good to be true.  It's nice that an attempt is made to reduce brain drain in WI., but the committment factor will take alot of ironing out.

In our world of GPS, a simple chip implanted to grads would suffice ::)

You said it best, I am playing ball right now at a private school in Wisconsin and the reason I went there is becuase I wanted to get out in four years and am on pace to right now, going into my last semester as a junior.  Most of my friends ask me, why I go to a private, and isn't it so expensive, but they just don't understand.

Thanks LU for the update.  Are you heading to Oshkosh for the big game?  I'm hoping to hit both the Carroll and LU games in Kolf next week.

Happy Holidays.  With no conference games or "Pick em" to draw attention for a few weeks I thought a "How well do you know MWC basketball" contest might fill in some of the down time.

Rules are simple, list the MWC teams from 1-10 in order of best conference record (don't need a guess on record, just best to worst) for the period beginning with the 97-98 season (first without Coe and Cornell)  and ending with the 05-06 season.  No fair visiting the MWC site to research (honor system in play here) I have already done that and will post the actual results on Friday.  Teams have played 141 games during that time as the 97-98 season saw only 13 conference matchups as a two division format was still being run.

Can't promise any great prizes, perhaps Roop will give you an inside on his lock of 07 or someone can come through with a free cup of quality coffee but you will have the satisfaction of being listed as the winner.

Good Luck.

I'm going to take a stab at it (nothing to lose, coffee to gain).  Since I've only been following this league a couple of seasons, this may be a shot in the dark.  I promise not to steal anyone's list (I guess there are only two before me), but I will readily admit to sneaking a peak to make sure my list isn't laughable.
