Thinking of heading to old Bel-Wah to check out the SNC game.  Grzesk seems to have a team made up of guys who finished at the bottom of the MWC along with a few talented First Year students playing pretty well.  I am convinced that he will have this team in great shape to contend. in a fairly short period of time

Remembering his days at UWGB I'm pretty sure they paly solid aggressive defense.

Any SNC fans lurking around the board who can provide more info or do they only come out during football season.

I wonder what it says about me that someone can call a posting board "home" and I actually feel like it's true. :D

Oh well, if anywhere is a home for me, it's this board with all your quirky random people. :-*

Good to see you posting too jeffp! :) Let me know if I need to pull out the TKD skills on anyone. ;)

I'm wondering if Oshkosh will have some Grinnell withdrawl (i.e. if they will be exhausted in their game against UWEC tomorrow.  Even more interesting to me than the top 25 teams they've beaten...  How many teams (top 25 or otherwise) have gone ahead and beaten Grinnell and lost their NEXT game?

Greek Tragedy

I talked to Mr. Downtown (Oshkosh guy) and he said he talked to TVD and players like Gibson and Capelle weren't going to play much.  Gibson logged 21 and Capelle got just 18.  They really didn't look that tired out there as they ran the offense pretty well.  Players like Matt Miller, DJ Marsh and some other guys that usually don't get tons of minutes ran a lot more than Gibson or Capelle.  It wasn't a huge track meet at all.  Oshkosh passed very well (31 assists to 49 FGs).  I don't think they'll be tired at all.

Duly noted, but even 18 or 21 minutes playing at Grinnell's frenetic pace might be like playing 35 mins in a normal game...

Yes, LU and Ripon do play Saturday but Ripon isn't the easiest place for me to get to. So you don't have to worry about somebodies pigs getting out and blocking the road when going to Beloit.

Roop:

There are plenty of pigs in the Ripon student section, I can assure you of that.

Speaking of the Ripon student section, does anyone know if school is back in session from holiday break? What about Lawrence, are their students back?

I have always felt that the student body being on break is an overlooked factor that causes teams to lose their home court advantage.

True, but you can't take 3 weeks off from the basketball schedule simply because the students are gone.  Over in the WIAC, students are out around Christmas and don't return until about the 3rd week of January.

Lawrence is back in school, so hopefully they should have a good following at the game.  I wish I could be there, but alas I'm stuck in Minnesota, so just gonna have to rely on the box score.

Ripon wins 60-56

I don't know all the details.  Ripon had an early 27-13 lead in the first half.  From what I heard at the end of the LU webcast, 17 first half turnovers? LU was down big early and chipped away in the 2nd half.  Ripon held on dispite shooting terribly from the FT line and Bo Johnson scoring only 5 points!  WOW!  So you don't even have to play a perfect game to beat LU this year.

First conference loss in a while...to Ripon...that's got to sting a bit!

But I hate to say it, but I've been telling LU fans ever since I played against Braier and both MaGillis', life is going to be a lot harder when their gone.  Those guys were truly special.    LU has only been dominant for the last four years, since those guys were playing.  Now their gone and the cocky days will die down a bit for LU.  They still have a very good coach and will still be a very good team.  But the dominance is over!

The Roop

As I recall I said take St. Norbert +7.5 so that makes three straight for Roop Vegas. Looks like Dolph will be needing a second job soon.

Tiberius is adjusting well to his new surroundings so my visit to LU on Tuesday is still probable, however not guaranteed. The "un-official" early line is LU -11.5 but I expect that to change. While Ripon is a tough place to play, if you are truly as good as everybody thinks then you should be able to win there. I think Ripon just won their SuperBowl in other words.

Roop:

FYI: the Ripon/LU game is always the biggest of the year.  Don't forget for a second LU and Tharp wanted this one bad.

Ripon is 4-0 in the conference and I'm sure there will be more "superbowl" games in the future for the Redhawks.  Also, Ripon didn't play that well and still managed to win so this wasn't some inspired game where a kid got hot and carried Ripon to the upset.  LU just isn't as good....still very good though.

The Roop

Well if Ripon fans are bragging about this one then my research is complete. Roop Vegas says take Beloit -2.5 @Lawrence on Tuesday. This shall be the official line............

Hardscrabble

The MWC has the weakest bloody basketball in the nation. And I love it. Most big-school high school teams could beat most MWC teams. Let's face facts. Janesville Parker vs. Ripon. I have my money on Parker.

As for Illinois College. What a paradox. Weak Coach. Strong Youth. Weak tradition. Strong Stadium (Beloit). Weak Petefish. Strong Ingram. Weak Jennings. Strong Bruce Dial. Weak Merris. Strong Mundinger. I love all the bloody contradictions. Blueboys. Gay name. Strong name. Bob Gay. MacMurray strong. Highlanders owned by Blueboys. I love it. I hate it. Blueboys will make the tourney despite 1-3. Blueboys won't win another game. When's the next SAB dance? When is horseshoe night? Screw all the Rhoers.
