"weakest bloody basketball"

Is this our first English native to post on this board? Funny though.

The great Janesville Parker...hahahaha, you have no clue what basketball is down south.

One question...where's the game?  Good luck in Appleton!

Looking at the pickem page i noticed that only the 3 BC faithful (which includes Dolph :) ) picked BC to SNC. Nice call guys. Were any of you at the game? I couldn't make and was hoping for a game report and opinions on how BC looked. They must be getting better. Maybe egtting the crap beat out of em has made them tougher and they will be competetive in the league.

I think I speak for the board when I say hardscrabble is a douche bag.

With all the worthless babbling/possible inside jokes, I would assume he was a former Lake Forest football player (not a burn LFC fans, just face the facts by reading the football board), but with the IC/Janesville Parker references I am at a loss as to where this rebel without a cause has come from.

Roop:

This game was equally important for Larry as it was for Ripon.  I was at the game, and Tharp spent more time trying to debate calls with the refs than he did coaching.  (ok that's not really true, but Tharp somehow was able to stop game play 3 or 4 times just to argue calls.)

I don't think Larry was ready for Ripon to play that hard of defense in the first half.  In the second half, you have to give it to Lawrence for slowly chip away at the lead and get it within six points 47-41.  But Ripon finally put Brian Schmitting to work.  They went into him time and time again, and there is not a person in the conference who can stop him.

NO ONE CAN STOP SCHMITTING

However, the free throw shooting in the game tonight was pretty bad on both teams....check out the stats there.

RiponRed34, good to hear from you tonight.  You want any other info on the game give me a call.

Lawrence is back in school, so hopefully they should have a good following at the game.  I wish I could be there, but alas I'm stuck in Minnesota, so just gonna have to rely on the box score.

You go to any MIAC games?  You should.

22 turnovers by Lawrence? Wow.

LU fans,

Wasn't John Dekker supposed to be some awesome, big-time recruit?  What's up with him...he's been doing a good job handing out gatorade and towels...5 total minutes the whole year?  I'm live in Sheboygan and he was all-world supposedly.

Where in Sheboygan are you???? Dekker is a good shooter and scorer, but he needs to pick up a little thing called DEFENSE. If you cant play D,you wont play for Tharp. And John knows this, and is working hard to figure it out!!!!!

Beloit seemed to shorten their bench which helped provide some stability.  Size was a big factor as Beloit appeared to win the rebounding battle fairly easily (have not seen a box score yet.)  As Roop has pointed out, this team has not shot well most of the season but yesterday Dowden was able to open things up.  St Norbert is young but has been playing ok so it was a nice home win for the Bucs.  Will be interesting to see how things go Tuesday, they could sure use a start like they got in this first half.

As for the comments of hardscrabble, two observations:

1)  Perhaps the only decent basketball player Janesville Parker has produced since their state championship team in the early 70's currently plays in the MWC

2)  One wonders how many of the MWC schools rejection letters Hardscrabble has in shoe box somewhere.

The Roop

Not sure what Hardscrabble was getting at and I'm not sure I want to know. But if we have a new idiot on the board it will draw attention away from me, thereby giving me more credibility. LOL.

Beloit took some talent off the floor at the end of last season and went with experience and it paid off. They really don't have the same amount of experience this year but shortening the line up might not be a bad idea. I think they have the talent to go 8 or 9 deep in certain situations but until somebody steps up and becomes the "go to guy" they are better off going with 6 or 7.

There is an effective combination of players on this years team but they can't wait to find it. 4 of their last 5 games are on the road and their lone home game in that stretch is against Lawrence. Since Lawrence will be wanting revenge for losing in Appleton Beloit needs to be well off enough by that point to go 2-3 in those last 5 to make the MWC Tournament. Being the 4th seed does them no good so they need to get to #3 so they don't play the host in the first round.

At this point an ugly record is a foregone conclusion. Run the table and they'd only be 14-9, not exactly impressive. Although if they did run the table 14-2 in conference would easily make them the host team. Now is when we find out if that non-conference schedule was worth all the losses it produced.

The only score I could find for the Grinnell-LF game appears to be the half time score, 80-79. Can someone let me know what happened in the rest of the game?

Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan)

As far as I can tell, that is the real score.  LF has the box score up, Grotberg had 29 points in 21 minutes.  Someone will have to let us all in on how Lake Forest finally tamed the system.

No one tamed the system, the best I could tell. Outside of subbing every few minutes Grinnell didn't PLAY system ball. Grotberg was phenominal, but it wasn't enough. Some would say that LFC "forced" GC to play their (LFC'S) style, but it didn't look like it to me. It just looked like Grinnell chose to place straight up with a bit faster tempo. I haven't seen the box, but I'm guessing there were fewer than 15 3pt shots, only one kickout and lots of layups traded. GC led most of the way and LFC's only 2nd half lead was with 14 seconds to go. Grotberg missed GC's last shot, but don't go blaming him; there were plenty of missed opportunities and bad decisions made on the floor in the last few minutes.
No offense to LFC, but they aren't much better than mediocre. I don't know what that says about GC this year. They are too short to rebound effectively playing traditional style. That's one thing the 3 pt shot gives them-crazy bounces on missed shots that neutralizes the height inside. Again, I'm guessing, but i'll bet LFC outrebounded GC something like 35 to 20 and did a fair job of not turning the ball over against GC's way-less-than-withering defense. LFC fans loved it at the end but I have had more fun watching petunias grow. Guess after 16 years I'm completely jaded, huh.
Not an embarrassing game, just not system ball. The only thing that embarrasses me is this damn "Forrester" ink stamp on my hand that won't freakin' wash off.

I did see the box and there were less threes than normal from GC, but still a lot.  Only about a third of Grinnell's shots were from outside the arc.

Any reason why they went this way Jeff?  Did Lake Forest just line up all five guys around the perimeter?

Thanks for the box, Hoops, but GC should be MAKING 28 3 pt shots per game! Well, ok. Maybe 20 to 25. But when you are hot from the arc (39% for the game ain't bad in system ball...and I know they cooled off in the 2nd half) I'd think you would wanna shoot more from there. LFC played 'em tight, but no tighter than any other team I've seen in 16 years.
LFC put two guards out on the perimeter and thats it. Again, nothing different from what everyone has tried at least once. GC just didn't attack the perimeter like it usually does and I don't know if that was by design or if they just weren't ready to play or what. Even 'that girl' asked where all the "fun stuff they used to do-like goonball and stuff" went.
