System ball returns!!!
Great game for the most part with a let down in the second half. Just kinda lost focus, i guess, but kept it together enough to keep a decent margin. For ten minutes in the first half and 5 in the second, no-one coulda kept up with them. When it all gels, I will be one happy fella.

Thoughts go out to Ahmed Idrissa this week. Take the strength you show on the court, give it to your family and we will see you on the court again soon.

After the LFC game, one had to wonder where the system had gone. I'm still waiting to see the score beyond the half time score.

Bobby Long really appears to have stepped up this year. What kind of rotation is Coach A using in terms of getting Grotberg, Long, and Schmidt on the floor?

Any of the newbies showing aptitude for the system? I doubt we'll ever have a freshman (sorry just can't buy into the 'first year' terminology) like last year's.

the T that was given to hurley in the LU v Beloit game was marginal at best, hurley got bodied up by two players going up for a shot... missed the shot and complained to the official (though i was told it wasnt profane) and after turning and running back down court mr T came out.  That official was absolutely horrible and you could see it as the other refs would end up talking to tharp just to ease the tension... Mr T's gaffes were present on both ends in fact i thought beloit ended up with the short end of the stick from him.

I have a lot of respect for coach youngblood and all the best to beloit i think they are a better team if nothing less because they dont have to be one dimm.

Also, LU will be doing live radio broadcasting for the mens and womens road games for both this friday and saturday, www.wlfm.net :)

best of luck to GC tomorrow night. If weather allows and LU shows up and GC is firing on all cylinders, it will be a tough ride home for Lawrence.

Kind of a lot of ifs...... ;)

I stand corrected.

I'm still waiting to see Grotberg hit 2000 in his sophmore year. Wouldn't that be some sort of record?

This does lead to a question that has been on my mind...2000 points has to be a pretty significant milestone in Division III basketball given how few games we are allowed to play.  Have there been many players who have reached that level of scoring?

I think it would be several records, seeing as how he'd have to score about 71 points per game the rest of the season.

It will be interesting to see if Grotberg gets the career scoring record for d3, which is tougher seeing as how Grinnell plays three less games than everyone else every year.  That's half a season he's missing over the course of a playing career.

There's a good number of 2000 point scorers, but it's the 3000 point plateau that's yet to be breached.  Grotberg would have to average 34ppg over his entire career to do it, which just doesn't see that far-fetched.  Scary.

We keep a list of milestones.

There are other links at the bottom of this page dating back to 2001-02. In 2002-03, Willie Chandler reached No. 2 all time, scoring 2,898 points.

Well if Ripon fans are bragging about this one then my research is complete. Roop Vegas says take Beloit -2.5 @Lawrence on Tuesday. This shall be the official line............

Roop:

I took Beloit and the points and got spanked for 5 large at the Mirage.  You owe me.

NO WAY!

I can't believe they did that!?!?!  I personally felt it was such a home court advantage.  The visiting team would shoot at the loose end when their legs were fresh.  Then by the second half when the visiting team switched sides, it was like shooting on a 10 1/2 foot rim...no joke...plus as the 2nd half wore on, shots were harder to hit.

I could be completely alone on this, but sure seemed like it.

Hoops Fan-
Not only does Grotberg miss half a season, but he misses almost half of  every game! Now how scary is that? ;D :D ;D

Not only does Grotberg miss half a season, but he misses almost half of  every game! Now how scary is that? ;D :D ;D

Let see what the numbers say...

The talented Mr. Grotberg averages 20 minutes a game.

He has played 34 games so far and baring injury might end up playing at least 92 (23 per season).

Has has put up 886 FG attempts which translates to 26 per game. Over 92 games, that would end up being 2397 attempts - which would pass the existing DIII record of 2149.

He has scored 1074 points which translates to 31.5 per game. Over 92 games, that would end up being 2906. Which would be 34 short of the DIII record of 2940 (done over 109 games BTW).

So while he's not playing many minutes, he's still getting his attempts. GC needs to make the conference tournament each year and get some wins to get TTMG the extra games/attempts to have a chance to break the record.
