72-57 Lawrence according to the scoreboard

Big win for LU!
Better Dead then Red

If Lawrence wants to win the conference in the next few years, that is how they are going to have to play. Rely on Hurley as a scorer, not as an inside prescence as a rebounder or a muscle guy. Run the court.

That was the best i've seen LU play since the Bopper graduated. By far.

Better Dead than Red!!!

Don't send my boy to Ripon
A dying mother said
Don't send my boy to Ripon
I'd rather see him dead
Send him to old Lawrence
It's better than Grinnell
But rather than at Ripon
I'd see my boy in hell!!!!!

System of the Down 86:

I just think that there are others--to include Grotberg--who deserve to be 1st team way ahead of Arsenault.  The whining isn't the reason.  I think Grinnell would be fighting for an MWC tourney spot without Grotberg.  I think they would be in without Davey as others on the team can pass the ball too.

I hope we get to Grinnell for the tourney--even better if we get to Ripon.   Ethanol isn't free in Wisconsin.

OK. I was hoping for more of a defense than 'it's my opinion', but if that's what you got...you're entitled to an opinion. I'll be interested to see if the coaches, who see all the league's players and vote on this, agree with your opinion. At a minimum, the people who run the Cousy award seem to think his contribution is more significant than you are giving him credit for.
;)

BTW, did you change your position slightly? Before, you said he no better than HM; now you appear to be saying he just not 1st team. I could see that he doesn't make first team, but I would think he just misses. As much as I like Grotberg, I think Davey may deserve the 1st team more because of his consistency. Grotberg has had some great games, but he's had some off games as well. When Grotberg has had those off games, Davey has generally picked up the slack.

Of course, that's just my opinion...

Well, I was right when I said Larry might find a way to get up for Ripon.

I think that result means teams and fans should start planning to travel to Darby at the end of the month.

It also makes the chase for the rest of the spots fairly open. Borrowing from an earlier post

   Team       Rec       Remaining Schedule
Grinnell        10-3       LF, at KC, IC
   Ripon           10-4       at CC, BC
Carroll           9-4       SNC, RC, at LU
Lake Forest   8-5       at GC, at MC, KC
St. Norbert    8-6       at CC, LU
Lawrence      7-6       at BC, at SNC, CC
   Monmouth     6-8       out of contention?

The game in Grinnell Saturday is more important to LFC than GC at this point. (I'm guessing GC wants the win in order to have beaten every team in the league.)

RC is still in the 2v3 game if they win one of their final two.

Norbs at CC becomes a pretty big game. Both teams need to win to solidify their position. Well, Norbs needs it more than CC, but CC doesn't want to play RC and LU needing to win.  Norbs has to win their last two and neither game will be easy to win.

Larry has to win out and get a little help, but they're still breathing. Can they get up for the rest of the games like they got up for RC?

MC needs a lot of help; more likely, they could play spoiler to LFC's season.

Good job last night MC on getting a win against that school from Galesburg.  Any insight from schwanman or fs13?

The "Still-Mathematically-Alive" Scots are still just that (alive) and unfortunately they need alot of help from other teams here near the end of the season.  Here's hoping that someone leaves a conference tournament back door open and the Scots can sneak in. :)

Go Scots!

Dolph Stanley

A question for those who understand thing more clearly than the kinder gentler Dolph:  When a shorter team outrebounds a taller opponent 16-4 on the offensive glass does that say anything about the motivation or effort of the either side?

Just wondering.

LU_nut

Much better game by LU last night than recent efforts.   Ripon fans helped create a great atmosphere.

Given the tie-breakers that Old School listed, it would seem that Lake Forest is in the drivers seat for the last spot.  They own a victory over Grinnell and LU has two heart-breaking losses.

Scottie, would you please make sure that MM shows up big time when Lake Forest comes to town????  Grinnell posters: make sure you give LF the business this Saturday when they come to town.

Thanks

Nut

Dolph,
From my experience rebounding is 90% effort/technique.  The effort to get into the right position and to want the ball more than your opponent or teammates.  Plain and simple.  The other 10% of rebounding lands in funny bounces and happening to be in the right place at the right time.  height does not play as much of a factor as technique.  just my take on it.
If it were up to me there would be a 4 point line....

lake forest

lu nut,
i would be willing to share in an open and candid conversation on heartbreaking losses.  Take a look at the stretch that LFC went through in January...
If it were up to me there would be a 4 point line....

Welcome to the board,  LFCBBall07 and Lake Forest!

are either of you gonna make to trip to New Darby this weekend? Your team is gonna need all the help it can get! ;D :D ;D

Seriously, GC is looking forward to this game. LFC always gives us fits, so this could be a great game and certainly one that determines a lot for BOTH teams.

The Roop

I bet these suddenly appearing Lake Forest people are just LU fans who changed their screen names. LOL.

I'm not sure how mathematically alive the Scots are. It seems to me that their hopes rest on a four-way tie at 8-8 between Monmouth, Lake Forest, St. Norbert and Lawrence. Throw Lawrence out of the mix, and St. Norbert wins the three-way tiebreaker. Keep Lawrence in the mix, and I'm not even sure Monmouth wins it.

Last night's Monmouth-Knox game was hard to categorize. I think the best way to describe it was that it was a hard-fought rivalry game with virtually no extended momentum for either team.

The Scots could have shot better from the foul line (11-of-20), but they did hold a decisive rebounding advantage, which led to a whopping 21-5 edge in second chance points.

fightingscots13

The Schwanman makes a good point about the game - just a good old-fashioned rivalry game:  too lazy to look at the stats, but a lot of ties and lead changes, physical play, big shots and, among other things, some nice trash talking between the student sections...I have a few favorites, but "9 Straight Turkey Bowls" over and over never gets old.

That does look like three brutal games.   I also give LF credit for winning 6/7 lately.  Still hope they lay an egg over the next week.

On a different note.......kind of tough that LU only plays the two last place teams (Knox and IC) once each this year while LF played them twice.

schwanman

I need to amend my prior statement about the tiebreaker. Since St. Norbert must lose out for the Scots to have a chance, and since one of SNC's games is against Lawrence, the Vikings would get their eighth win. That means the ONLY way Monmouth gets in is if it wins a four-way tiebreaker with Lake Forest, St. Norbert and Lawrence. I'm not sure who would win that particular tiebreaker. If I really thought it was going to happen, I'd do the math, but I think that either Lawrence will beat Beloit or Lake Forest will beat Knox, making all of the computations moot.

Scottie, do you mind if I break out the first "Monmouth in '08?"
