What is the line on today's game in The Roop Vegas?
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

Tough game for the cagers last night. I'll let jeffp give the details.

Wow, I have never seen GC get worked like that, I am an LF fan and I still couldn't believe what I was seeing.  Nothing went right for them all night - LFC controlled that game from start to finish.  It was about a complete 180 from the last game between the two.  It seemed like LF got great looks and rebounds every time down the floor.  Did Grotberg really only play 11 minutes??  That's what it said in the stats and I don't really remember him from the game, he was invisible.  I don't think I have ever seen GC win when their stud is that off.  Should be a good one this afternoon.

I am very sorry that my previous post was offensive to some folks. It wasn't meant to be. Apparently my thoughts were quite misinformed. Again, I am sorry if anyone associated with the team was offended by them.

Best of Luck to Carroll and Lake Forest.

Also, best wishes to Grinnell. You had a fine season and you have all given Grinnell fans great pleasure.

My opinions are my own and really should mean nothing to any of you, but I doubt that I will be expressing them here again. Hope if any of you make it to Grinnell you will see fit to stop in and say "hello".

There are only eleven schools in the entire Midwest Region that have never made it to the D3 tourney. Two of them -- Eureka and Lake Forest -- are playing in their respective conference championship games today for the right to make their March Madness debuts.

So sorry to 'hear' that there were problems with what you posted. Hopefully with time both you and the people who responded will understand that both sides were speaking out of frustration and no long term decisions should be made in response to comments made in a moment of frustration (and disappointment).

I certainly understand how heart breaking it can be to see a team you enjoy and appreciate not play to what you know is their ability. Anyone who has watched their own kid play knows that feeling. And I'm willing to bet that's what happened here. You want so bad for them to succeed, that you get caught up in the emotion when they don't.

Please give it some time. This was too good a season to have it sour on one game.

RiponRed34

It was sad to see schmitting career come to an end.  Ripon might win that game if they just go to Schmitting EVERYTIME.  He was being double teamed most to the night and sometimes triple teamed and still scored.  It's like don't fix it if it aint broke, but guys continued to take off balance shots....

Anyways, I suppose if I think about it, offense wasn't really the problem.  Like Early said, you can't give up 90 points and expect to win a ball game (unless you're Grinnell).  Ripon just did a terrible job guarding the 3pt. line and that killed them.  Drury is a very good player and I'd love to see Schmitting and him share the award.  I'm pretty confident in saying CC is going to win the championship, so Drury playing on the conference tourney champs might give him the edge over Schmitting.  But Schmitting has been one of the best centers to play in the MWC since the days of Manimal and IC's Ingram.  I think he's the best scoring center I've seen period, although I'm sure that's up for debate.

When is LU going to get over themselves.  Way to come out and post when Ripon loses cause that's all you had going for you this year.  Weren't they picked to win the whole thing this year.  I told you once, I told you twice, without Braier, you will find out winning on a consistant basis is no easy task.  You were completely spoiled and it shows with comments like "expect to be dominated."

Ripon will most likely be a bit down next year, but they are also most likely getting Gillie's kid who is awesome....already strong and mature.  He's played against college kids his whole life and it shows leading the state is scoring as a senior.

My last comment is what Early touched upon and why I thought the winner of RC/CC game would win the tourney....EXPERIENCE!!!!  Rarely do inexperienced teams win championships....especially teams that rely on the 3 like Grinnell does.  Playoffs are a completely different breed and while Systemfan told me that they had pressure holding on to the championship...which was mighty impressive for such a young team, it is completely different in playoffs and in NCAA games...all of which us Ripon alum have experience in.

Carroll wins easy...I don't care if I'm wrong here, but playing against the system the night before is never good.  Then you're playing the most talented team in the conference...

Congrats to Grinnell on winning a reg. season championship.  That in a lot of ways, proves way more then a two day tournament.  They will/should be favorites next year.

Congrats to my boys McMullen, Schmitting, Johnson, Murph....on playing hard and representing Ripon College.  Rec league games just aren't the same :)

Funny how you say that.  Point couldn't stop Schmitting when Ripon came to Quandt.

Yeah, well Point is a completely different beast....but I guarantee Ripon puts up more of a fight if the emphasized pounding the ball down low and taking less 3pt. shots.

The first record listed is the overall record, followed by record in regional games, through Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007. These are the last rankings we'll see before they select teams. Teams in BOLD are Pool A candidates, unless already noted.

There may be some mistakes, due to updated games and my inability to remember every Pool B team in contention! lol

Feel free to "quote" and update it.

I'm not sure why it was posted in CCIW Chat rather than in here, but someone's reporting that LFC/Carroll has been postponed until tomorrow afternoon. Details, anyone?

Mr. Ypsi

FWIW, the heading on the post was 'power outage'.  I imagine Grinnell may have the same weather problem as RI, but perhaps got hit even earlier.

titan2000

As you may know, Iowa is a big biodiesel state and the power outage that was experienced was a direct result of the circus elephants not producing the raw materials for the power plant at Grinnell.

Apparently the Ripon guys gave them some cheese and they got a little bound up.

The fine folks at the Grinnell Taco Johns trying to get them loosened up with some potato oles and hot sauce.  And I heard the Saints Rest is pitching in with some latte enemas.

Lets hope it all comes out alright.

The Roop

Taco Bell isn't serving anybody as nothing in Grinnell had power Saturday after about 2:00PM. When I saw that even Wal-Mart was closed I considered that to be my cue to get while the getting was good. Well.................. They closed I-80 but 10 hours later I made it from Grinnell to Beloit.

Beloit was in the running to host the Championship game Sunday but it was uncertain whether the officials could get there or not, so Monmouth won out. I find a noon tip off to be highly unlikely as both teams may still be on the road right now.

MWCSID2005

Monmouth College is without power on Sunday, February 25 forcing the 2007 Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Tournament title game to be played at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., at noon today.

An ice storm in Grinnell, Iowa knocked out power city-wide and forced the postponement of the contest on Saturday (Feb. 24) and the game was initially rescheduled to be played at Monmouth on Sunday.

MWCTV will broadcast the game live. Log-on to www.midwestconference.tv for more information.
