Ok, the ice storm and no power (still - this is from a remote location) has keep my lips sealed.  But here's my decidedly unexpert opinion on GC this year:

Friday's game: ouch ouch ouch. Grotberg was sick. We kept throwing the same D at LFC even though somehow Conger had figured it out. Our 3s weren't dropping. It was just a falling-apart game. But the guys kept trying nonetheless.

The season: hell of a season. GC deserves the MWC crown for sure - didn't have an auspicious beginning and then gritted out a string of wins against every team in the conf. One bad game at the end does nothing to negate what Coach A and the team achieved this year.

Kudos to LFC, by the way, for a great game, and kudos to Carroll for a great win.
Threes are better than twos....

Followed Augie all year---If you think that Augie is going to allow Carroll to shoot 3"s all night---Think again---Not going to happen---Very good at defending the 3---Haven't seen Carroll play, but they'll have to score off the dribble to beat the Vikes

I personally think Carroll can win in the quad cities.  They HAVE to shoot well, but they have a lot of playmakers.  Ledwig and Ligocki were the reason Carroll beat Ripon in my opinion.  Drury was good, but Ledwig was the key.

Cecil is one of the finest examples of honor, integrity, and moral standards anyone could ask for in someone who helps shape the lives of young men. Good luck to him in what ever he does next.

I totally agree!!

I agree...Drury will most likely win the award since his team won the NCAA bid.  I won't be up in arms with that outcome, but I still think Schmitting had a more impressive season individually.  Remember took waaaay less shots than Drury.  That being said, if Schmitting shot better from the FT line this may not be a discussion.

Carroll does a very good job at drawing and kicking.  They usually have four interchangable players on the court that can penetrate and shoot the 3.  Their offense has a lot of movement.  I have no doubt that Augie is a very good basketball team and should hold serve at home, but Carroll is no push over and has played against some of the best teams in D3 and competed (WIAC).  Carroll's big problem is they don't have a real inside presence.  You can definitely go inside on Carroll and that should open things up for your shooters.

I also would like to say much respect I have for Cecil who coached the game with class.  He will be missed, but I understand why Beloit is going in another direction.  Wins are the bottom line.

I'm pretty sure Carroll won't beat Augustana.  If they do, I'll gladly eat crow.

Oh yeah, nod probably goes to Drury since his team won the conference tourney and placed higher than Schmitting's Ripon.

Cecil did more at Beloit than just coach basketball. Hopefully they can find a way to keep him around in another capacity as he's a benefit to the school. It's a sad day for me but I must agree with RR34. Wins are important.

Is Kim Chandler the George Steinbrenner that turns Beloit College around like he did with the Yankees when he bought them ?? Not sure. I'm just glad that I don't work for either of them. Way too much tradition at Beloit for things to keep going the way they have been. Hopefully this sends notice to the administration that a successful athletic department does not mean poor academic standards.

I think Coach C did the best with the situation he was given but he was doomed from the start. Beloit College needs to start caring about their athletic teams or just not have any.

*Edit: but Carroll is no push over and has played against some of the best teams in D3 and competed played (WIAC).   ;D

Not this year at least, they lost by double digits to Point, Whitewater and Oshkosh (granted, three of the top four WIAC teams)...and none of those games were close.

I do wish Carroll the best of luck and I'm pulling for them.

To to the millions and millions of Roop fans who thought I was being serious and rude to The Roop:

I wasn't serious. At all. I was kidding. When people kid, they generally don't mean what they say. That means, that I don't think it's gross on any serious level, and I'm not overreacting, and I'm not actually offended.

If we're going to be ticked at the coaching staff for overreacting to posts, lets not overreact and take a post that was obviously meant ONLY as a gentle rib at Mark, someone I consider a friend (as evidenced by a billion smiley faces), and construe it to mean anything else.

This has been a public service announcement by diehardfan. Thank you, and have a nice day. And may God bless the United States of America. :D ;)

Well the word is out on campus. They supposedly offered Cecil an assistant dean of students position and some newly created diversity position. according the party line its some coach Youngblood has wanted for some time. I'd like to ask him on how it went down though. Either way, the college is lucky to still have him there. I wish him all the best in his new position.

Sounds alot like the style of Stevens Point and Carthage---Both teams gave the Vikes problems

LOL... I'm a liberal? Uhm... okay. I think the correct category for me is: Z, none of the above. My faith causes me to cross back and forth and past all sorts of party lines. I have formed a party called the April Party. We have several members, but they can unfortunately be counted on my fingers... so far. :D

I believe a true liberal would have replaced God with himself in that "May God Bless the United States of America" statement. :)

Congatulations to Beloit College on handling a very toughb situatiion well.  Cecil will remian at the school but will not  be the basketball coach.

To those who were expecting a post from me, yes, I am very excited.  Youngblood is a fine person and is clearly suited for the role the college had given him.  That said, anyone who would argue that this program had shown any indication of moving in the right direction has their head buried so far in the sand that they have to have been hoping for a group of foreign exchange students to lead the Bucs to glory.  Have to laugh at the post from D3 about all the great recruits that were lined up for next year, had Dusty Baker only had more time the Cubs were sooooo close.

Anyone want to make a bet that the record of the program both overall and in the MWC over the next nine years will not be better than it has been over the past nine years?  Let me know what you are willing to wager.

Alright all you Hugh Hefners, as the boards only female, I'm going to have to let this one go. But I reserve the right to be grossed out. :P

Don't forget about Go Bucs, who recently exposed herself.  I mean...well, you know what I mean.

You'll do anything to get a picture of somebody from the MWC on the front page of this site, won't you?

And, let's remember "that girl," the offspring of HefP.  I think she's been too busy hearing "Places Everyone!" to visit us this season.
