Reality sets in then she logs off. Typical Liberal behaviour.
LOL... I'm a liberal? Uhm... okay. I think the correct category for me is: Z, none of the above. My faith causes me to cross back and forth and past all sorts of party lines. I have formed a party called the April Party. We have several members, but they can unfortunately be counted on my fingers... so far. :D

I've already thought of a motto: "It'll be springtime in America again if you vote in November for the April Party."
"To see what is in front of one's nose is a constant struggle." -- George Orwell

The Roop

I suppose the JeffP/Roop 08 ticket could run as April Party candidates. So long as the convention isn't held in CA. Flights start going up at that time of year to warm weather destinations.

Speaking of flights. I give up. I guess I'll just have to skip Salem this year. I can still get out of Chicago cheap but it's one of those 15 lay over change planes in Phoenix twice type of things. Besides it's a 6:05 departure so I'd have to spend the night at the airport as the Beloit shuttle bus doesn't leave early enough to get me there in time.

Mapquest tells me it's 16 hours each way to drive and I can't see myself doing that either. For now I've put some money in the bank and will begin saving for next year.

Congatulations to Beloit College on handling a very toughb situatiion well.  Cecil will remian at the school but will not  be the basketball coach.

To those who were expecting a post from me, yes, I am very excited.  Youngblood is a fine person and is clearly suited for the role the college had given him.

Well said Dolph.

I think people have mistaken your position on Youngblood as a coach as a position on him in general - I'm not one of them. Your post here does a great job of making it clear that you did (and do) have a great deal of respect for the man.

To to the millions and millions of Roop fans who thought I was being serious and rude to The Roop:

In reference to all the "hottie" comments...... growing up w/ 5 brothers, I heard this term all the time at my house!  It's just a "guy" thing thats spanned for generations......LOL

the game

Good to see BC handled the situation well. Does this mean the end of Youngbloods career. Of course supreme talent can make a mediocre coach look good (see Bill Self). The man is a nice guy, but he actuall did have the talent to get things done during his tenure and faile to do so. Yes the aadministration was tough on allowing those borderline guys to get in but lets look at those guys that did get in. Henry Grant(3X All conference and POY), Marques Flowers (2X all conference), Matt Entwistle(1X all conference) John Allen, Nick Hendry (1X all conference) and of course the best player in the schools history Josh Hinz. 33-59 in the Josh Hinz era is amazing. only 23 conference wins in 4 yrs with Hinz. This is not a knock on Hinz because he's a terrific player but if you have the best player in your schools history you've got to average more than 5 conf wins per season. Hinz never finished over .500. 10-13,4-19,8-15, and 11-12. As a BC alum and former player a change looks to be the best thing for the program.

The Roop

Nice story on the Beloit website about everything. One thing I noticed however, or didn't notice depending on how you look at is the name of the new coach. It's crunch time as far as recruiting goes and while "Other" is leading in the poll I doubt he will land as many kids as a real person.

X returns to action Saturday as New Roop City got a 1st round bye in the state tournament. Might be a good idea to have somebody there as the folks from Old Schools neck of the woods will likely be in attendance.

To the Beloit backers, and especially Dolph:  I'm just glad you don't cheer for Knox.  You may or may not care about the All-Sport standings, but I found it quite interesting that we're through 5 sports and Knox hasn't even cracked double-digits yet!  http://www.midwestconference.org/all_sport/

p.s.  The All-MWC teams are announced.

Davey and Grotberg on the first team.  I'm sure that will get things rolling.

By the way, the top five underclassmen listed were all sophomores.  Could there be a 2008 MWC First Team without a Senior?

RiponRed34

I have no problem with the first team.

Man after looking at who made the all-conference second team and honorable mention...wow the conference was down.  I do have a problem with Dave McMullen not being on Second Team.  He's a senior whose put in his time on very good teams...leads Ripon alltime in steals and second in assists.  I don't know how Gillingham is worthy at all....bad team.

How does Andy Horton get left off the list?  And for MIKE DOWDEN!?!?!  Is Mike Dowden that short, shaved red-head kid?  If that's who I'm thinking of...WOW!  I mean he plays hard, but...I'm lost for words.

The Game,

I don't know if its me, but I find it hard to call a guy the best in Beloit's history when his teams record was so bad.  23 wins in 4 years?!?! Never a five hundred record?  I realize that coaching and other players have a part to this...but best ever?  Didn't Beloit once used to be one of the most dominant schools in the country?

The Roop

Horton missed some time this year due to illness and never hit full stride until late in the season. His numbers were a little lower than expected but I'm scratching my head too. Dowden, yes you know who he is, on the other hand over achieved a little bit offensively and is worthy of the HM.

Not sure I would say that Beloit was one of the dominant teams in the country. Well, late 40s early 50s when they were for all practical purposes D1 team. In the D3 era they were #1 in 81 for several weeks and were ranked more often than not for a few years during that time period. Basically it was between Ripon and Beloit in the north to face Monmouth from the south for the championship. It was pretty much a 3 team conference back then.

There was no national poll in the late 80s early 90s because the NCAA began experimenting with regional rankings that told you little or nothing. Their last 20 win season was in 94-95 I think, sorry but I don't have a media guide handy. In any event they actually got a bye only to get spanked at home in the 2nd round. The MWC has never been that competitive until recently. Beloit, Monmouth, Ripon and Lawrence are the only teams to ever advance.

Sorry for the history lesson. I suppose I could have just said "No, they weren't one of the dominant teams in the country". LOL.

Walker will be 1st team next year, so 4 now sophmores for next year isn't bad though...
If it were up to me there would be a 4 point line....

Scots4

I guess it all matters who wins. There is no way Terwelp and McMullen shouldnt on 2nd team and no way Horton shouldnt be on HR. What a joke.
Never play leapfrog with a unicorn.

The Roop

Easy Scots4........... Once Beloit hires you as coach you can vote Horton on the All Conference team twice.
