BC admissions is already telling coaches that if the kids they want haven't started the admissions process its already too late. there is no national date for d-3. Each school decides how late into the spring to allow admissions.

It's not necessarily confined to the spring, either. Many schools will accept late applicants right up until the beginning of the fall semester, depending upon the availability of space and the qualifications of the applicant.

Well Beloit isn't the only MWC school looking for a new coach......

LU's John Tharp moves up the ladder to NCAA D2 Hillsdale College in Michigan.  JoJo Depagter will take over on an interim basis.

It will be interesting to see how the program does under new leadership.....

d3bbfan,

I don't think you can solely blame the AD for the situation because I doubt that the college has granted her unlimited power. The version I heard tells me that none of the hand picked "1st choices" were interested in the job. Oooooppps. That gives the impression that "the move" was not as well thought out as we were lead to believe.

Recruiting is difficult enough as it is and Beloit certainly doesn't need a self-inflicted bad recruiting year. Looks like that's what they are getting however. If everybody stays a disaster can be avoided but if kids do transfer I can't blame them.

Although my experience is limited I did coach 10 and 11 year olds at the Boys Club for a season. Therefore The Roop is here to help. As always there is a fee. For $750,000 I will take the job for one year. This will demonstrate that Beloit is capable of admitting the error of their ways, that the universe does not revolve around them and that they have a sense of humor. I'm literally offering the opportunity to "buy" themselves more time to find a coach so everybody wins.

The Recruit X experience has taught me that I have no interest in recruiting on a regular basis so that's why I only want the job for one year. My requested salary increases by $50,000 a week so timing is of the essence.

What?  I guess Tharp isn't the genius we all thought him to be.  He's turned a couple of small-major d1 offers after last season into the head-coaching gig at a Michigan d2 this season?  Wow.  Are we sure he didn't go to Beloit (just kidding, Roop)?

Not sure why you feel the need to apologize to me but since you have I accept. Hillsdale is one of the few D2s that I've actually heard of so they must be pretty good. I wish John the best.

We'll miss John but are happy for him and his family.  LU will be strong in 2007.

Don't forget that last April Tharp interviewed for the head coach position at Illinois Wesleyan. It looks like he wanted to leave Lawrence/Appleton which I thought was a nice place when I visited there. Of course, its only natural for a coach to want to move up in his profession as with any other field.

I have it on good authority from a very knowledgeable inside source at Wesleyan that   he was not given serious consideration after his interview as it was felt by the IWU athletic administration that since he was not willing to commit to IWU for a specific period of time, his real intent was to use the IWU job as a springboard to a D2 or possible D1 position. It looks like they were right as is evidenced by his move to D2 only a year later.

Why would Tharp commit to coach at IWU any longer than their fans would be willing to commit to be alive?  From what I saw at NCAA's last year in Salem, most of them got a weekend pass from assisted living to come to the games.

WIAC and MWC schools should be so fortunate as to have fans that follow them on the road  in as many numbers as IWU does, titan.

And you don't need a weekend pass from an assisted living facility, but rather from an extended stay nursing home.   :D

Primarily oldsters or not, Badgerwarhawk is right about about IWU fans following their team. Each year our highest attendance is at our home game against Wesleyan. I'm sure its the same with the other schools in the CCIW, if not schools outside the conference who schedule IWU.

Please, don't anyone take T2Ks bait...

Sorry to hear about Tharp, but happy for him. Best of luck to you coach, you were a credit to the league.

Man, tough two years for Larry fans. Booper leaves in 06; Tharp leaves in 07. Makes you wonder what's in store for 08.

LU did the right thing by naming a current assitant as interim coach. That way the recruiting process can continue uninterupted. I've heard lots of good things about "Jojo" so I doubt the program will suffer by the change. He might not be John Tharp right away but give him a chance and I think he can be.

Passing the baton is always the best way of handling these situtations. Jumping out of a plane without a parachute, as a certain MWC school does, is the wrong way to handle a coaching change however.

If Cecil is not hiding in a corner laughing about all of this by now he should be.

So I take it by your mockery, Roop, that Beloit hasn't had Youngblood continue to recruit as they search for his replacement?  It would seem that this would be the natural course of action seeing as how he "wasn't fired" but promoted.
