Makes you wonder what's in store for 08.

I'd say a challenge for the league title with almost all impact players returning and the continued maturation of Hurley and Kroeger, not to mention Chris mfn Page.

The Roop

As I understand it Cecil was required to make contact with potential recruits to let them know that he would not be the coach. That sends up a red flag that one of his assistants was not being considered. So not only did Beloit jump out of a plane without a parachute, they also required the pilot to crash after everybody jumped off.

This must be what it takes for the MWC to be on the front page of D3 Hoops for 3 straight days !!  ::)

And there is a survey about LU on the front page so maybe MWC fans should give Pat a break ??

Scotties "Coleman Mafia" can be funny at times but not when Pat is in the middle of tracking 2 national tournaments. Since "the conspiracy" has been overdone anyway I can't guarantee that Pat would appreciate it under any circumstances.

After a transition year or two I think LU will be fine. I'll be at the helm of Beloit then so what LU tries to do won't really matter. Yes, I know I said I'd only take the Beloit job for one year. However. A relative of mine coached one of the current Beloit players in high school, so he will be my choice as assistant coach. He'd do the actual coaching and I'd collect the big checks and do all the P.R. work.

Sounds like the perfect situation to me but I'm still waiting for that call.............

I didn't see a survey like this last year on D3 Hoops when Trost left IWU and so did Ameliovich and 3 other seniors--why the hate for an MWC program  ???  Makes you wonder.

I think Pat should explain that since the two situations are parallel.  ;)

Roop, I sent a $100 contribution to Beloit and asked that you be named coach.  I hope that helps.  I also contacted Coach Tharp and asked him to do the same as a Beloit alumnus.  He said he would consider it.

I think Titan Q already more than answered your misinformed query on the CCIW page.

So, JoJo is going to coach for a year and LU will see how he does, or are they going to look for a coach for next season right away.  It's not a state job, so I'm guessing they don't have to post the job opening...

Any names pop up?

While I appreciate your support your contribution was not necessary. Beloit is already halfway to their fundraising goal for the new science building in only 1 year of a 5 year project. So I'm sure they will have more than enough left over to address my salary requirements. I plan on leasing off campus, at my own expense, for my Coaches Office/Roop Vegas Sports Book Headquarters. I think 3,500 square feet will do. By leasing on my own I'm not creating a need to completely remodel Flood Arena just to accommodate me; which would force people out of their current offices and nobody likes to move. I understand those concerns and am compassionate about it.

Since you can't get much lower than DIII than either your assistants or high school, I though I would throw these names out and see what sticks.  I've met DePadger (sp?) twice for a total of 8.5 minutes.  Seems like a good kid but how about Jon Murphy of Seymour, Chas Pronschinske of Neenah or even Lee Rabas, another assistant at Lawrence, who has high school head coaching experience at Xavier?
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

The Roop

How about not insulting every D3 fan and maybe we would listen.

This will be interesting to see how the LU players react to Tharp leaving.

The rivalry just doesn't seem as good now...sad :(

The Roop

They will likely congratulate him and "play on". As for the rivalry, who knows...........

I should have previewed my post before I let it go, sorry.  That's not what I meant to say but I can understand how it was easily misunderstood.

What I meant to say was in the college ranks, it would make sense that no head coach's from DI or DII would come down to DIII to coach.  Not saying it wouldn't happen, just unlikely.  So, your next option for coach's would be latteral moves, or even better yet, assistants already there or others from higher divisions, or some local high school coach's that are successful.  That is why I posted those names of local high school coach's.

Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.  I should know better.
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

D3, in my estimation, is preferable to D2.  Again, this depends on the schools you're comparing and the programs, etc, but I don't think it would be unexpected if a head coach from a struggling d2 school decided to take a promising d3 job.

Like if Southern New Hampshire's coach got an offer from a NESCAC school or if Upper Iowa's coach got a shot at a top d3 program in the Midwest.  I don't see that as out of the ordinary.

Sure, you're never going to get Winona's coach, but that doesn't mean d3 is necessarily a demotion for everyone.

First look at Bo Ryan...  He was a d1 assistant at WI before stepping down as you would put it to lowly platteville

Rick Bowen also at Wisconsin before leaving and going to UW River Falls

Sometimes a d1 or d2 assistant really wants to be a Head coach and will take opportunities at d3
