The Roop

Sustain itself from a talent/depth stand point is what I was getting at. I was only able to see years 7-10 and it wasn't until the last two that I felt confident in the bench they had. If Cecil had 15 All-Americans every year in 1-6 I'm afraid I wasn't able to see it. I also think you need to put an * by this years record. 4-19 wouldn't have happened if the news of Cecils "promotion" didn't get out. I'm guessing the team knew about the time of the Monmouth/Grinnell trip and they weren't the same after that. Can't say that I blame them either.

But alas we have a new era now.

Just so I'm sure I'm following your line of reasoning.........At the time Beloit left for the roadtrip you reference, they were 2-3 in the MWC and certainly in contention with everyone else for a playoff spot.  If I understand what you are saying, the team learns that their coach will not be back next year and rather than responding with an attitude of "we will show the world (or at least the administration) how wrong they are by playing our hearts out for our coach", comes home, wins two the next weekend (to go to 4-5 and remain in contention) then loses their next seven as a tribute?

"We'll show them how wrong they were in saying we need a new coach by quitting on our old one?"

I give the players and the former coaches more credit than that.

What happened to the kinder gentler Dolph that could be reasoned with ??

I stand by what I said in a previous post which you quoted. Was there a time for a coaching change ?? YES. This year ?? I'm not sure. 15 points @Illinois College in the first half did not happen because of good defense. It happened because the coach was gone already and nothing could be done about it. Just admit that the players liked Cecil and drop all the other nonsense.

Per my pm to you Recruit X is gone. However, another one of my discoveries is getting a great deal of attention from Coach V. And you have offered how many names that would help Beloit ???????? Yes, I do complain but I also try to help out when I can instead of whining all the time.

Hoops fan,

What you said makes sense, Siwash probably didn't start this board...but his remains do show that Knox fans once inhabited a board very similar to this one. They very likely used words to communicate and worshipped a god called Pat Coleman. Interestingly enough, history shows that their extinction seems to coincide with the rise of the Roop. ;D

I guess I am suprised at the number of posts about Beloit Hoops. Who knew that many people cared?

LOL.  A bit like a Texas A&M fan making that comment about Indiana fans.  A wee bit of recent success and suddenly they have a basketball tradition

Or. . . Some Beloit fans (me)  are sick of the Beloit way of not making the right effort toward winning in athletics, and a poor job of offering Division 3 sports. Hiring a coach with no head coaching experience?  Is that the great plan for the rebirth of Beloit Basketball?  ( I wish him well)! I am all for a young coach getting a start.  Maybe it will work, in fact I hope it does so more than me and a few students and locals can enjoy the game. I don't think coaching is the issue at Beloit,  facilities, student body, and athletic support are whats holding BC athletics back.

A couple of questions:

1)  If hiring a coach with no head coaching experience is a mistake this time, do you agree that it was last time as well?

2)  Taking Randall out of the mix, would you have prefered someone who had high school head coaching experience but no experience at the college level of any kind (that appeared to be the other option)

3)  Who in the Midwest Conference would you say has athletic facilities that are far superior to those at Beloit?

Just curious.

to respond:
1 - i guess i have to say no otherwise i cant make my arguement.
2 - No, someone with college head coaching experience would be my vote for a new head coach if there was to be a change, if there is this great tradition of Basketball, I don't blame any of the coaches I think it has fallen off because of the administration and some grand ideas that i do not think anyone can come close to understanding their thoughts, i know i dont get it some of the things they do
3 - I give it to Beloit on the Gym, and a bit toward the football stadium which is a ways away from the campus but besides those two.  I would say any school would be better. I am not as well traveled as you, so you of course will let us all know who ranks where.  BC has a poor weight room, falling apart track, bad locker rooms, leaky pool. Most high schools have better facilities.  If you are trying to get a great player (any sport) why would you come to BC?  Great education, sure, not a winning athletic program. You could just as easy, go to one of the other MWC schools and have both or at least closer to both than one would get at BC

Dolph Stanley

I have already said I like the hire at BC so now I feel free to take a shot at the AD.  The following quote has appeared in a number of papers:

"Brian brings a wealth of experience to Beloit College and has learned from some of the very best coaches in the men's game," said Kim Chandler, Beloit director of athletics. "From the tutelage of Stan Van Gundy, Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan at the Division I level to the highly respected coaches in the Midwest Conference such as Bob Gillespie at Ripon and Chris Conger at Lake Forest."

Can someone review the timeline and tell me when Vraney's path would have ever crossed with Bo Ryan's?

gobucs

Not a clue here.  In our paper it says during his four seasons w/ the Badgers, the first was under Stan Van Gundy and the remaining were under Bennett........ ??? ??? ???

The Roop is the natural predator of Knox fans.

With "positive" alum supporters like whathebuc, who needs negative posts from fans of other MWC fans. We (Beloit) won plenty of BB games in the old fieldhouse in the late 60s and early 70s, and that facility was built in the Jurassic period.

If the team improves, kids will once again want to play at Beloit, while getting a top flight education at the "Yale of the Midwest." I think Vraney deserves all of the support we can give him. It's not like a large group of top flight DIII head coaches were hot to get the plum Beloit coaching job.

Go Bucs!

P.S. Go Augie as well.

bucs r bust

I know for sure that all of the southern teams in the conference have far better facilities then Beloit.  IC, Grinnell, and Monmouth have fairly new gyms (or additions), which are amazing by the way.  As for the north, I would put Carroll and St. Norbert far ahead of Beloit.  Not sure about Lawrence or Ripon...I've only seen the gyms.  Beloit doesn't even have an outdoor track!  If I was a recruit (and the best ones would put athletics ahead of academics) and I was torn between Beloit and some of the other MWC schools, I would definitely be turned off just by the facilities alone (old or too far away).
