Rick Pitino wouldn't leave Louisville. That's what I heard....................  ;)

I was told that the new coach signed a contract on Monday and that he will be on campus to stay next Monday. However, I feel it is the SID's job and not mine to release that information to the public.

Why pass up a weeks paid vaction (including travel costs).

Pat,

Were you speaking about an actual candidate when you said they "saw his record" or are you speaking in generalities?

I believe the guy Roop is talking about has an 0-0 record, so I was curious.

Actually the guy I was thinking of has a record but removed himself from consideration early on. I only found out about that in the past couple days. Might have been a good fit too as he has experience in that area and probably would have recruited well. Not that the new coach can't or won't.

The new coach has a big name in the Peoria area and ultimately in all of Big Ten country. I do not think he will have trouble recruiting.

I believe we are assuming that the new Monmouth coach is Wayne McClain from the University of Illinois

Mark Vershaw was the name I read on a Wisconsin basketball board.

I see that now, a cornell blog site has announced that Vershaw will be the new head coach at Monmouth.

Wow, Mark Vershaw.  I fondly remember him as the designated "only married player in the Big 10".  Here's a news story on the hiring - link

Interestingly, this brings to three the number of ex UW players who now have head coaching positions in the MWC.  Vershaw was by far the most known of the three as a player.

maybe now we can count on Monmouth to miss amazingly important free throws

I don't think that can be coached. It's gotta be natural ability.  ;)
