Greek Tragedy

Thought I'd put the matchups on this page.

I think St. Norb's is coming around and has a good shot to get a road sweep.  Admittedly, I know virtually nothing about the "south" teams aside from Grinnell, though I do think Lake Forest will beat Ripon on Saturday.  Speaking of Ripon, I think I'm done waiting for them to "show up" and play how I thought they could, especially after they nearly beat Point.  Oh well.  I think the Carroll/Lake Forest game will be closer than some may expect.

I read in the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel that Keith Chamberlain is expected to start practicing next Friday.

just watched the ripon/grinnell game on mwctv...what a joke the way that game was called. now just so everyone knows im not a fan of either team. (as many know im big beloit fan but not a lot to cheer about there.) the way that game ended was horrible....LET THE PLAYERS DECIDE THE GAME. i guess the ref could have called that foul as the ball was being batted around after Kellet missed the ft...but to give the tech foul so quickly was wrong...frankly imo i think the foul was a wrong call....actually, again imo, the little bald ref was so so so bad...and almost completly agaisnt ripon. you can certainly understand the frustration of coach G. just a really terrible way for the game to have to be played, the officiating was just the worst. there is no way that either at a neutral site or at Ripon that RC loses that game. and again this is just all my opinion...so im ready for all the GC supporters to justifie the officiating but it was almost totally onside and again that is my opinion, from some one who doesnt support either of those teams.

So, was that your opinion, or someone else's?  ??? lol...just kidding.  ;D :D :P ::)  Sorry to hear that Ripon lost...I'm sure the Lawrence fans would appreciate that.  No other scores?

Well, we now know Ripon lost, which means Grinnell won. And, we know some fans thought that the game was poorly officiated. But would someone please post the score?

D3,

I also watched...I didnt think the refs did as bad a job as you did, but I agree that you cant call a loose ball foul in a tie game with 5 seconds left when the ball is being tipped around.

The Ripon @ Grinnell score isn't posted on the d3hoops.com scoreboard yet.

This one is: Lake Forest 66, Carroll 61. And it's a final.

Thank you FightinTitan 2006.

At this point you have to think it's disappointing for the MWC that Grinnell and Lawrence have to meet for the second time in a week with GC at less than full strength. I saw Grinnell earlier this year when Chamberlain was healthy and he is a game changer. The 2 GC-LU matchups might have been classics under different circumstances.

GC-RC

Interesting game :-\

To the officiating: it was pretty even-handed. Both teams are plenty physical, and though there were of course missed calls (traveling, anyone?), from where I sat it looked about right.

Long, Arsenault, Grotberg all had solid evenings. Some nice turnovers from Alex McDonald and Ahmed Idrissa, and any evening you see Mike Schmidt at the free throw line is out of the ordinary. IMO this was a game GC should've won by a big margin but it was a nailbiter the entire 1st and 2nd halves. Thought it was gone with 4 seconds to go and then....

RC's play didn't match its record, to my mind. Fast, as I said very physical, and absolutely relentless under the basket. Thought a good third of the team would foul out in the last 10 minutes, but skillful play and substitutions kept that from happening.

Gillespie's ejection? Didn't what exactly happened, but he and one of the refs were going at it most of the game. 2 (or 3?) technicals also helped GC.

Curious to see what happens tomorrow. I saw snippets of play that could throw LU off--but GC's gotta be tired tonight.

Enjoy your rest.

Knox 65, Beloit 58

Beloit had the Knox lead down to single digits for the last 3 1/2 minutes of the game, but never got it down to a one-possession lead.

Thanks, fightintitan.  Well, from the play-by-play, it looks like LU gutted out a tough win on the road.  Down by 7 with 7:44 to play, they made their last 6 3-pointers to pull off the win.  On to face the Grinnell!

Looking at other MWC box scores from tonight:

LFC over Carroll 66-61 - This has to count as a mild upset.  LFC held Carroll's leading scorer Ladwig to 12 points on 5-20 shooting and 1-7 from 3 point range.

SNC over Monmouth 73-58 in overtime.  SNC outscored Monmouth 18-3 in overtime. Ouch!

Grinnell over Ripon 117-116.  As discussed above, GC gets the benefit of questionable officiating to get 4 free throws at the end of the game to win.  Can I pre-complain for tomorrow's game?  The Arseneaults really tried to work the refs when I watched them at LU so it's no surprise that they can get the calls to fall their way at home.

Indeed....  Hopefully, the Scots can bounce back against the Bucs tomorrow.
