wow.....new regional rankings out.  Augie with a loss at 17-5 in region stays ahead of LU who is 16-2.   I guess opponents winning % is a big deal.  LU, assuming they win out, will play 4 straight games against winning teams(STN, Carroll and then the two tourney games)  Will that be enough to go around Augie or will they have to lose a game?   The CCIW has the same 4 game format for a tourney.  I think they play Ill. Wesl. next who also has a winning record.    I guess the double OT loss to Carroll is haunting.

Nut

So is opponents' opponents' winning %.

Midwest Region
1.  Washington-St. Louis  18-4  15-3
2.  Augustana (Illinois)  18-5  17-5
3.  Lawrence  18-2  16-2
4.  Chicago  15-7  14-7
5.  Illinois Wesleyan  15-8  14-6
6.  Wheaton (Illinois)  17-6  13-6
7.  Elmhurst  17-6  16-6
8.  Carroll (Wisconsin)  14-6  13-6

Are the winning percentages calculated on who you have played to date or the entire schedule???  do you know?

Just curious.

LU_nut

PS:  and how heavily weighted are they against the actual in-region record......or is it kind of a mystery?

Good luck to GC against KC tonight.

We don't have to have a 1 pt finish, guys. Really!

It's interesting to me that they take this as who you have played to date as opposed to your entire schedule...  IMO, it gives an much more inacturate picture if it only takes a portion of the schedule ESPECIALLY because this year, it really doesn't matter for the OWP and the OOWP if you win or lose (inadvertantly, a loss to a team will positively affect your OWP but that will be offset by negatively affecting your OOWP, vice versa for a win, and, as I understand it, OWP and OOWP are weighted equally).

The Roop

At this point in the season it's likely that whom you have played to date and your entire schedule are the same thing. Granted there are a few non-conference games to be played for some teams out there.

Grinnell wins 100-80.

Grinnell led by 31 after Grotberg scored 9 points in about 30 seconds in the second half.  Grinnell was on pace to score about 150 or 160 points in the game, then slowed it down the entire second half.

Hard to believe that this is the best that Knox could do... they really looked sluggish, and were never a presence -- at one point they struggled for about 6 minutes straight to even get it over the half court line.  For the second game in a row, I was flabbergasted at what opposing coaches do against the System.  Down 18 in the first half, Knox goes to the slowdown?!?!?!?  Are they just trying to set a turnover record?

GC 100 KC 80

Not the same team I saw earlier in the season. Except for a few minutes in the 1st half, GC controlled the game. Coach started the team with an all-senior squad (a tradition in the last home game of the season). Chamberlain definitely making himself felt - he would rise up and the KC players would move back and start looking for other scoring opportunities. Grotberg was shaky in the 1st half, but then really heated up during the 2nd half - went over 2000 pts for his career at GC.

I agree that the KC team seemed sluggish and a bit confused. Maybe the flu? Maybe the extremely cold weather?

Kudos to Long, Idrissa (who had the hot hand in the 1st half), Arsenault, Schmidt (with some strong defensive play), and McDonald.

Looking forward to Saturday!

No surprises except that Carroll loses again.  Up and down season for them.  I have to think this takes them out of any running for a Pool C spot.

Wow...well, Monmouth beating Lake Forest has to be considered an upset as well.

Carroll was already out of the running IMO.  To get a Pool C bid, they'd have to lose again, even prior to tonight's loss.  They were 8th in their region and if Wash U, Augie and LU get Pool A bids, they still aren't taking 5 teams (out of 17 Pool C bids) from the Midwest.

Here's one for Nut to ponder. Carroll gets the Pool A and a bye, while LU gets a Pool C and has to travel to Occidental with the winner going to Carroll. LMAO.
