While I do not dare throw myself into this heated disagreement, I just wonder, AndOne, do you think that Phil will have a chance to play this year. He has two proven Guards in front of him. Both Jandron and  Dowden played more than significant minutes last year. Although Tony did have a down year last year compared to his Honorable Mention year, he is still a good athlete. Do you think Phil will have a chance to prove himself and get some valuable minutes this season?

System-----

While not being familiar with the St. Norbert personnel, I wouldn't count Phil out.
As I said, he sees the whole court, takes care of the ball, makes good decisions, is a fine passer, and can knock down the open shot. A true PG. Also, I am a firm believer in a rotational system featuring at least 3 guards (preferably 4) and 3 (4) forwards. Accordingly, given Phil's skill level and his ability to play perhaps his best ball in big situations, my estimation is that his chances are decent as a freshman, especially in a backup role, playing about 12 minutes initially if there are 2 proven starters ahead of him. Additionally, I know Phil has confidence in his ability without that confidence going over the line into what you would describe as cockiness. Phil is a very likable kid who realizes that as good as he is, there is room for improvement. I wish him much good luck both on the court, and especially in the classroom at St. Norbert!

That makes sense. Im sure he will be an excellent player and person for the MWC?

I pose a question for any supporter of the MWC or Division 3 for that matter! With the three-point line being moved back a foot. What team do you think this will have the biggest affect on? Not only because of the length of the three-point line but the opening of the lane for the big guys.

The Roop

It probably helps teams that like to push the tempo. Carroll for example and hurts those that play more of a half court game. The long rebounds just got longer and that helps open up the transition game.

That is a valid point regarding Carroll. However, I wonder do you think that it will be difficult for many players in our conference to extend their range another foot. That might sound ridiculous but i just wonder.

Also, I guess everyone knew it was coming, but how will this affect Grinnell. They have relied on good three point shooters. Without a decent percentage they will not be able to average as many points as they have in the past.  The line is indeed a foot farther which may make it difficult even for the better three point shooters on the team.

The Roop

I think you will see the same thing happen after the NBA moved their line back. The percentage actually went up because only those that should be taking 3s are taking them. The old distance is close enough for anyone to try it and most do.

I don't think Grinnell will be effected that much because I see them shooting well beyond the line as it is. My only question is will they continue to drive and kick it out because that pass just got longer. Scoring probably doesn't change for them how they go about it could.

The Roop is all-knowing. I do believe they will continue to kick the ball out for threes. I remember reading somewhere that they have 5 or 6 statistical goals that they attempt to reach each game. I think shooting a high number of threes was one of them, so kicking it out is necessary for reaching that specific goal.

Besides Lil' A can make most passes on the floor and is responsible for most of the teams assists anyway. He is an excellent floor general and that pass shouldn't cause too many problems for him...

In Kentucky, having a 12 ACT is a minimum requirement for a scholarship. Having 12 teeth isn't.

The Roop

Having previously lived there for a number of years I can say with certainty that a 12 gets you an akademik skolership. However athletes need only to spell their name close to right on the test and the score is waived.

Not kidding as much as I wish I was..............................

Once again, Andone...sounds more like you have it in for any kid that chooses another school over North Central! The way I see it, you must sit in the stands with every recruits mother monitoring their conversations with potential coaches!
Phil Albrecht is a wonderful kid from an outstanding family.  I am sure as with any level headed parents, they let Phil make the decision on where he wanted to attend college and play basketball. Didn't know you got reports from college admission offices now.

pgkevin

I dont know how fair that comment is...as I believe it was North Central who did not admit this particular kid, so technically he did not chose anyone over North Central

Roop,

Do not hesitate to list Lu_nut as a reference.............I think the idea of you serving as joint ADs of both LU and Beloit would do wonders for their limited athletic budgets.
