Just another typical Carroll fan.  I don't know if we have ever had a level headed Carroll fan in here.  I can name plenty of others that several of the longer term members will remember such as William Wallace and his band of troops...

The best way to get Carroll talked about is to post regularly, not talk trash (unless it's about Ripon), and actually add to the conversation.  Unfortunately, all the Carroll fans want to do is whine, drink heavilly, and pretend that their team is better then one that has owned them at least in the MWC tournament.

In fact lets take a look at Lawrence vs Carroll since the 1999-2000 season shall we:
Jan 11, 2000  Lawrence 65, Carroll 63
Feb 14, 2000, Lawrence 72, Carroll 56
Jan 16, 2001, Carroll 83, Lawrence 70
Jan 30, 2001, Lawrence 79, Carroll 58
Jan 15, 2002, Lawrence 96, Carroll 91
Feb 13, 2002, Lawrence 81 Carroll 68
Jan 21, 2003, Carroll 94, Lawrence 87
Feb 15, 2003, Lawrence 83, Carroll 77
Jan 7, 2004, Lawrence 61, Carroll 60
Feb 14, 2004, Lawrence 76 Carroll63
Feb 28, 2004, Lawrence 82, Carroll 71 (MWC Tournament)
Jan 18, 2005, Lawrence 80, Carroll 72
Feb 19, 2005 Carroll 58, Lawrence 54
Feb 25, 2005, Lawrence 87, Carroll 76 (MWC Tournament)
Jan 18, 2006, Lawrence 86, Carroll 81
Feb 15, 2006, Lawrence 64, Carroll 63
Feb 25, 2006, Lawrence 68 Carroll 62 (MWC Tournament)
Jan 27, 2007 Carroll 72, Lawrence 45
Feb 17, 2007, Carroll 76, Lawrence 63
Feb 2, 2008 Carroll 115, Lawrence 113
Feb 23, 2008, Lawrence 92, Carroll 80
March 1, 2008, Lawrence 98, Carroll 95 (MWC Tournament)

Final Record:
Lawrence 16-6 against Carroll since 1999-2000 season including 4-0 in the MWC tournament.  Yes Carroll has won 3 of the last 4 regular season games between the two schools, but still hasn;t gotten over the rather large hump that is beating them in the MWC tournament.

Oh well..maybe he will actually decide to come back and man up once the season nears closer...but I don't find it too likely.

I'm fairly level headed, I just don't talk a lot. My problem is I can't get to enough games because of Track.

I was looking at rosters around the league and noticed that Hoyt Rees and Pat Ebbing are not listed as returnees for Lake Forest.

Its not surprising for a freshman to decided on another school after a year, but Rees was a 2 or 3 year starter I think. I don't think we have any LFC representation here, but could this be a mistake or perhaps Rees played somewhere else first and is out of eligibility?

Upon examination of the Lake Forest site it seems to confirm your thoughts on Rees but contradict the Ebbing thoughts.  I dont know if this is the site you were looking at and I'm just missing something, but even so it looks like of the 8 players listed as returners only 2 (Beyersdorf and Campbell) 3 if you count Ebbing played signifcant minutes/made significant contributions.  Once again I could be missing something, but that doesn't seem to bode too well for this upcoming year

My mistake PG, I overlooked Ebbing. Looks like just Rees that is missing.

That being said, does anyone know if Rees is just a mistake, it does seem unusual to start your first two years in a program and then quit, maybe he transfered to another school to play ball?  Probably wont get answered since we have no Lake Forest representation but maybe some speculation haha

In looking into this, I spoke with an extended member of the Lake Forest basketball team family. The information currently available reveals:

1. Hoyt Rees IS returning to Lake Forest this year, but as a student ONLY. Word is that he wants to become a vet, and in keeping with that desire, has decided to forgo his remaining basketball eligibility in order to concentrate on his studies and increase his attractiveness as far as being a grad school applicant.

2. While he is still listed on the roster as a returning player, current odds favor Ebbing also NOT playing this year. He is still on the roster most likely because the coaching staff has not yet informed the web master to remove his name, possibly in the hope of still being able to convince him to play if he returns to school this year, which, as of a week or so ago, appeared to be about a 50/50 proposition. I believe  classes at LFC began today so this initial question should now have an answer.

Looks like the above info proved out. Ebbing's name has now been removed from the LFC roster as Rees' was previously. The roster is now down to seven returning players and 3 of them saw only 93, 17, and 15 mimutes of PT last season! Another (one of their better players I believe) was injured in the first game of the year and never returned. They had better be bringing in a boatload of recruits so there is at least some chance a couple of them will be able to contribute. It may be a long season in Lake Forest.

Looking through the LFC stats it seems to me that it could indeed be a long year for the college..however, they do seem to have 4 or 5 solid returners, but as you stated AndOne it does appear like they will desperately need some sort of contribution from a freshmen or incoming player or else your looking at those 5 playing 40 minutes a game....
But here are the starting 5 just in terms of minutes/points from last years stats

DesJardins- 591 minutes    2.0 ppg
Brandenburg-93 minutes   0.9 ppg
Beyersdorf- 757 minutes    9.1 ppg
Campbell- 734 minutes      11.7 ppg
Hanley-    21 minutes         6.0 ppg
672 minutes       10.5 ppg (sophomore year)

Obviously none of these 5 are household names in the MWC, but they did seem to put up solid numbers last year.  The depth is obviously going to be there problem, we'll see how they handle that.  And that is just assuming that the kid with the knee injury (Hanley) is even playing again...they have him on the site, but they had Ebbing on the site for awhile when he ended up not playing

Freshman combo guard Chris Roets of LFC will be a top player in the MWC and could start from day one. This is one of Conger's best recruits ever and right out of Carroll's backyard. Attended Hartland Arrowhead, same as J. Hoch. He is a combination of Kroeger and Ladwig.

Gregory Sager

It was mentioned a few times in this room over the summer, so you'll have to track back through old pages to find it, but it appears that Chris Conger did have a pretty good recruiting year for LFC.

Roets was rated #32 in WI by Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, ahead of several D2 scholarship players like M. Clarke #42 who is going to Hillsdale to play for J. Tharp.

That's a hybrid D1 player, what's he doing in D3?!

Maybe he didn't get any DI offers for a variety of reasons--height, etc.

Maybe he loves Lake Forest.

Where was he "rated" by other scouting services?

From reviewing several different recruiting service reports, different services place more importance on certain stats over others.

Often times the higher a HS kid's scoring average, the higher his "ranking" without much credence given to other stats such as FG & FT percentage, TOs. etc.

IMHO:

1. Being ranked #32 does not guarantee success at any level, and certainly does not alone make any player a "hybrid."

2. There are many highly ranked HS players who don't do much in college whether at DI, DII, or DIII. Also, I bet you can find several players in the better DIII conferences who could be very successful at the DII level, and even a few who would make a nice contribution in DI

3. How successful many highly rated HS players are in college has more to do with their "coachability" and the quality of the teammates around them than it does with their lofty ratings coming out of HS.

I agree.  It was more of a joke in passing but any player that is described as a combination of Kroeger and Ladwig (disgusting shots, ability to finish games, finsishing around the rim, cutthroat, etc.) is someone that I want to see.

I understand there are variables when deciding on a school, but if he's that good...

All heresay for now.

Uhh, explain what is disgusting about this:

Ladwig:  174-344  .506 FG/FGA  153-182  .841 FT/FTA
Kroeger  131-237  .553 FG/FGA  123-145  .848 FT/FTA

The Roop

Kroeger doesn't get to the line enough ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Base on other comments in that post, I believe "disgusting" was a compliment...
