"Defend our MWC championship belt" ?? Does this mean that if someone throws a chair on the court that the lone referee will look in the wrong direction ?? LOL

Beloit does not have the D3 version of the "Fab Five". However, they do have the D3 version of "Phi Slama Jama". So we will see whom outscores whom.

Might not be as fun for the LU faithful as they think.

Lawrence showed very well in the Deerfield (Joy Of The Game) Summer League, and they, no doubt, were missing some of their top players.

Actually, on the contrary, the two weeks that I saw Lawrence at the JOTG summer league they were running with pretty much a full squad.  At least, they had their PSAA (Pre-Season All-American), Kadison, Page, and Dekker.  Obviously I am not accounting for any of the freshman or maybe transfers that will be counted on to make an impact, but I would probably guess that those previous 4 will all contribute significantly to this years squad, and thus would be considered their top players.

With that being said, I do agree with AndOne that they looked mighty impressive both times I saw them, but it definitely was with their full compliment of players as opposed to a roster of backups.

At the JOTG center, I too saw a pretty much full squad for the LU basketball team. Needless to say, they look great. Chris Page seemed to be more confident and a better shooter. Furthermore, they can all shoot. It will be frustrating for most teams they play.

Question for the board: Whose freshman will have a bigger impact this season; BC or LFC. From what I understand they both have around ten of them!

RichBoy

First time poster...but if I had to guess I'd say the freshmen from BC.  Their style of play will be uptempo and they got a lot of young guards who can handle and shoot.  Look for Derek Lovgren to step up and have a big sophomore campaign...the kid can do more than just tip in game winners.

As for Roop...I'm not so sure about 11-5 in conference, but BC will be much improved...IF the big fella Horton can stay healthy

Dolph Stanley

Am I correct that at least five players of Beloit's roster from last year who were not Seniors are not listed this year?  No huge losses but Weber played well late in the season and Isham and Heer would have added a little maturity to a roster that looks to have two Seniors, Two Juniors (one of whom did not play last year) and Two Sophmores.

I do like what the coach has brought in for his first recruiting class but they will have to grow up in a hurry.

Dolph...your research is correct.  Word out of the BC camp says the infamous "shuttle" had a lot to do with the lack of returnees.  Personally, I feel Weber is a huge loss offensively, and you're correct in the lack of maturity.

BC will probably go about 9 or 10 deep and be a small team, trying to use their quickness to push the tempo.  If I had to pick a starting 5 right now, I'd go with FR Michael Horton, SO Pat Kenny, SO Derek Lovgren, FR Derek Carrier or FR Travis Towns, and SR Andy Horton (no relation in the Horton boys)

Look for LU to be solid again this year...David Bremner will have a similar impact that Gillespie had for Ripon last year, but on a far better team.  Obviously, they're my favorite to repeat with Kroeger leading the way

Would this be the same shuttle that is responsible for the same thing at Lake Forest?  Looks like Beloit's coach took something from his stint at Lake Forest

At this point he needs to get healthy. Scrimmage tonight @Edgewood and they will be 3 short. 2 are on the football team and won't make the trip and Andy Horton probably won't dress.

Are you saying Horton won't dress because he is injured? If I remember correctly this will be the fourth straight season he has been injured during the start or near the start of the season.

The Roop

Probably not dressing for a scrimmage is a far cry from missing any games. I think it's largely precautionary at the moment and I'm not real concerned.

Don't be so sure of yourself yet Roop...System Error makes a pretty solid point.  It's no mystery the Bucs need Horton to have a shot in the conference, and his absence should not be taken lightly.  It will be interesting to see how the scrimmage goes tomorrow without him.  I have to repeat from earlier...look out for Lovgren if Horton doesn't play.

The Roop

Towns has been picking up all his minutes in practice so the heir apparent will ready a year early. He's also a better 3 point shooter. That's one reason I'm not worried. The other is that miraculous recoveries seem to occur the closer it gets to conference play.

I didn't know that Horton was not playing because he was hurt. I just assumed due to his injuries in past seasons, that it may have contributed to his missing the scrimmage this upcoming weekend.
