A quick congrats to John Grotberg for becoming the all time scoring leader in Grinnell basketball history. He's been a lot of fun to 'watch' and it's going to take someone special to break the record that he establishes at the end of the season.

Really?  Given their penchant (obsession?) for constantly establishing new records, I'm sure The System will develop another gunner.  ie.  The same was probably said about Clement....then about Wood.

Waiting for The Roop's evaluation of last night's game, or at least the first half.  (You didn't actually stay for the second half, did you?)

Nice game Roop!  ;D

I am not up on the basketball side of the conference, but this one I had to jump on. Just for my buddy, The Roop.  ;)

First, be nice. Regardless of your opinion of their approach, it's still an accomplishment.

Regarding the final number, Wood, Clement, and Diekmann were all within 150 points of each other. Grotberg has already passed them and he has a minimum of 14 more games to play (if healthy). Given that he is averaging 34 pts/game, he might get 300-400 ahead of the others.

I also thought it was interesting that Long has moved into 10th on the Grinnell all time scoring list and will in all likelihood end up in the top 6. Given that he didn't establish himself as a scorer until last year, that is interesting.

Oh, and one more observation...I was surprised to see a classmate of mine, Dennis Blyly, at number six on the list. He's the only one in the top 10 that is not from a System era team. He and Eric Whitaker - now a close advisor to President-elect Obama - made quite a backcourt back in the day. See you can make something out a D3 basketball player!

[BTW, I didn't even mention (until now) that Grinnell broke their school record for single game points last night  :D ]

The Roop

Well it's not like they were supposed to win this one but that's no reason to just stand around for a half and watch the other team score; which is pretty much what they did in the 1st. Kenny sat out with a calf injury and that made more difference than many would think. Probably not a 33 point difference but it doesn't get out of hand as fast and remains a game with him in there. He hopes to be back Saturday for the Carroll game.

If teams are going to double and triple Horton somebody else has to be open. It's simple mathematics, but nobody ever got open and that's what I call standing around. The rebounding was the same way. Take a shot and everybody is heading down court. Probably half of St. Norberts rebounds were uncontested.

I'm not going to mention anybody by name but they know who they are. No more day long video game sessions between shoot around and game time. I've heard it throws off depth perception and never really thought much about it, now it's kinda hard for me to dispute the phenomenon. A couple after thoughts: 1. The gym stays open until the womens game starts <hint hint> 2. With so much time for video games you must have 4.0 GPAs.

System Error

I would also argue along with Systemfan that Grotberg's school record will NOT be broken. As of today, he has amassed 2,385 points. With 14 games left and atleast one conference tournament game this season(they have played in one each year he has been there) his point total will be unbeatable.

As of today, 2385 points.
15 games remaining x minimum of 29 points per game = 435 points

That is atleast: 2,820 points. Considering the fact he has averaged 29.8 points for his career. I don't think a freshman will be able to come in an score as many points for a consistent period of time quite like him. Also, he hasn't missed a game and has been healthy for all four years.

Congrats to John Grotberg for his impressive feat. You indeed have been a pleasure to watch.

Pat Coleman

That would put him No. 3 in Division III men's basketball history. Willie Chandler (Misericordia) is No. 2, with 2,898; Andre Foreman (Salisbury State) is No. 1 with 2,940.

In case anyone reading this board wants a record to shoot for.

Is their basketball life in Illinois outside of the CCIW?

Two words, one ampersand: Chicago & Aurora.

Two blanks, one ampersand:  _______ & ________... :D ;D ;)

Aurora's record over the past six seasons prior to this one: 129-40 (.763), four conference titles, four D3 tourney appearances.

Chicago's record over the past nine seasons prior to this one: 142-80 (.640), four conference titles, four D3 tourney appearances.

42-31 Carroll at the half. Carroll owns the 3 point line thus far.

t2000, actually they have 2 Hortons this season.

88-64 Carroll. Lawrence never got going and Carroll never let up. Perhaps the MWC Tournament will be in DePere this season.
