Point's defense was horrible.  They aren't overrated.  Sometimes you just don't play the way you are supposed to.  Coach Semling said their practices were great working on team defense.  That didn't carry over to the floor come game day.  It happens.  It sucks.  It'll get fixed.  We got smoked by Lawrence and that following weekend we knocked off #2 Whitewater.  I hope to do the same vs. Oshkosh this weekend.

Old School:

I hope you are right.  The better you do the better LU looks. We'll need help after losing to Marian earlier this year.   It shouldn't take Semling too much time to figure out a strategy to defeat the always cagey TVD at Oshkosh.

I am just hoping that LU forgets that we struggle sometimes against a "girl's name" school as we need to beat Carroll (University) Wednesday.

So I didn't make the drive.  It just seemed like too long a day, even with the good game to be held.  I am listening on the Wheaton website - sounds like GC is giving then a good game.  Grotberg is not doing so well, but it could be a solid finish.

Wheaton 130, GC 109

It was 2 different games, really. The 1st half was essentially a tie game, with Wheaton leading for the first 8-10 minutes, then Grinnell leading for most of the rest of the half, with Wheaton up at the half. GC rattled the Wheaton offense, but the Wheaton defense kept the 3 game down.

Then, something happened. In the 2nd half, GC seemed to lose its steam. And obviously Wheaton had figured out how to handle the press. They quickly established a lead and never really was threatened after that.

If the 2nd half had been like the 1st, it would've been a hell of a game. It was still good, and I'm thinking this is one of the best GC teams I've seen since I started watching back in 1998.

Wheaton has more depth than most that Grinnell will see and they had been near perfect so that couldn't last. I'm sure they will be fine once they return to confenence play.

Beloit kept their lose 2 win 1 streak going so that should mean good news for St. Norbert and Carroll. However I'm not sure. Their 9-10 free throw shooting down the stretch really impressed me and Marian does have a couple quality wins this season.

Towns is only 32 points behind Andy Horton so it's not entirely a one man effort there. Quite a drop to the #3 scorer but if they limit the turnovers and keep hitting the defensive glass they will surprise a few and not challenge for the cellar.

Congrats to Andy Horton on becoming the 18th Buc to score !,000 points in his career at Beloit. He joins an impressive group of former Bucs and achieved this milestone on some pretty sorry Beloit teams. Although Beloit is a long way from regaining its status as a top Midwest Conference program, this season offers at least some evidence of improvement. Hopefully, it's enough improvement to attract some better talent in the next few years.

St. Norbert moves into the top 25 with their win over Plattville.

They should have two fairly easy games this week to keep them at # 23 @ beloit and home for Ripon.  I see no reason why they shouldn't win both.

Good for SNC...if Carroll wins at Lawrence this weekend, I have a feeling we will see them in the receiving votes section next week.

It seems that between SNC, CC, LU and GC the MWC has a decent shot at two bids this season, but as was pointed out previously, they may all beat up on each other and elimnate that possibility.

Grinnell only has LU and SNC once in the regular-season, certainly a favorable draw for the Pioneers.

I think this could be good or bad for the Pioneers.  It is good as far as getting into the MWC tourney.  BUT unless they go 3-1 their Carroll, SNC & Lawrence games and lose in the tourney finals, I don't see them having a prayer at an at large bid.  If they played all the top teams twice and came out 4-2 and went to the finals I think that would improve their chances.

It might be benefit Lawrence and SNC though as it is lowers their chances for a loss to what many may still perceive as a marginal team.  (Grinnell hasn't exactually put up great results in the non-conference portion of the season, although their result against the current #1 team in the country was not too bad.)  It also leaves them less vulnerable to a "Grinnell Hangover" loss.

PC,

I agree on Grinnell, I am thinking they would have to win the MWC tourney to get in, but that certainly doesn't seem unrealistic. SNC (Platteville), CC & LU (Point) all have a signature win, so I think they would all have a chance at the postseason if they end the year in the 4-5 loss range, considering they would have to have beaten some of the aforementioned MWC teams. That leaves little room for error for LU and CC.

SNC obviously has the best resume right now, not only with the win over #1, but their lone loss (Loras) could very well be the IIAC champ and the DuHawks would be ranked if the do beat Buena Vista.
