The Roop

Just a theory but I think we will know more about the two team scenario in mid-February than we do now in early January. Granted LU lost to an Elite 8 team last season but they were still a one and done. The IIAC got two in and both advanced. Selection people remember that when they're considering the last few teams on the board.

There figures to be plenty of highly ranked teams in the region/section once again so unless St. Norbert runs the table I think we can postpone hosting talk until the 09-10 season. By then everything will go through Flood Arena anyway. After Beloits 1st round bye that is.

I wouldn't get too far ahead of yourselves.  At the moment, LU or Carroll would still have to win the MWC tourney while St. Norb's does very well going through the MWC schedule.  LU still has 3 losses and Carroll has gone 1-3 vs. the WIAC.  Those losses to Oshkosh (7-6) and Marian (4-7) hurt LU a lot more than the win over Stevens Point helps them.  Same with Carroll losing games to La Crosse and Oshkosh.

Carroll and LU are 6-3...so, you have to consider who else is in your region ahead of you.

Wheaton 11-0 (Pool A)
Washington U 9-1 (Pool A)
Augustana 10-2
Illinois Wesleyan 8-3
Anderson 9-3 (Pool A)

So, at this time, two teams would have to be picked even before Carroll and LU would be considered, just in the Midwest Region (if St. Norb's won the conference tourney).

Luckily, the CCIW is a lot tougher than the MWC, so the potential of Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan getting beat up more is a lot higher.

PC,

I agree on Grinnell, I am thinking they would have to win the MWC tourney to get in, but that certainly doesn't seem unrealistic. SNC (Platteville), CU & LU (Point) all have a signature win, so I think they would all have a chance at the postseason if they end the year in the 4-5 loss range, considering they would have to have beaten some of the aforementioned MWC teams. That leaves little room for error for LU and CU.

SNC obviously has the best resume right now, not only with the win over #1, but their lone loss (Loras) could very well be the IIAC champ and the DuHawks would be ranked if the do beat Buena Vista.

Actually, they don't.

I have a friend named Sara Sheridan.  She got married a couple of years ago...I have no idea what her new last name is.  I still call her Sara Sheridan.  I will still use CC for short when I talk about Carroll UNIVERSITY.   ::) :D ;D

Not sure how much Wash U and Anderson "directly" effect the MWCs Pool C chances as Wash U could go to the South or West and Anderson probably goes to the Great Lakes or South. It will depend on how much one less bye this year changes the landscape. Not to mention the WIAC getting 3; which could happen. 5 or 6 loss WIAC teams always look better as they've played more games than a 5 or 6 loss MWC team.

Here is a list of all Midwest teams with an in-region winning % of .700 or better. Let me know if I've missed anyone, or if you find an error.

Millikin, 7-0 (1.000) - CCIW
Wheaton, 7-0 (1.000) - CCIW
Westminster-Mo., 4-0 (1.000) - SLIAC
Washington U., 8-1 (.888) - UAA
St. Norbert, 7-1 (.875) - MWC
North Central, 6-1 (.857) - CCIW
Illinois Wesleyan, 5-1 (.833) - CCIW
Elmhurst, 9-2 (.818) - CCIW
Augustana, 9-2 (.818) - CCIW
Transylvania, 5-2 (.714) - HCAC
Milwaukee Engineering, 7-3 (.700) - NathCon

Grinnell is 4-2 (.667), Carroll 6-3 (.667), and Lawrence 6-3 (.667).

C'mon Titan Q. You know whomever wins the SLIAC becomes the 1st round cannon fodder for the highest ranked team that didn't get a bye within 500 miles. (probably Wash U.)

It shouldn't take Semling too much time to figure out a strategy to defeat the always cagey TVD at Oshkosh.
What's that say for your beloved JoJo then?  ::)

The Vikings shot like the Titan Drumline that night; Coach DePagter can't take any shots.  I would love to see that game again.  Hail the Titans for 2008, they also beat Carroll before Christmas.

LU scored 81 points that game, two points more than their season average.  They also shot 45.9% from the field that night, which isn't exactly terrible (they are shooting 49.1% for the season.)

The bigger problem was that JoJo couldn't come up with a gameplan to stop TVD's "cagey" offense who scored 84 points that night, which is 13 points more than their season average of 71 points.  (UWO actually shot 46.4% against LU compared to their 48.6% so far this season.)

Cubs:

LU shot horribly in the first half or they would have had a big early lead.  DSA overpowered LU's bigs and got them in foul trouble, especially in the second half; it wasn't very cagey, just effective.   That is the game summary.   The Titans won, hail the Titans.   What more do you want from me?   Ted used the same cagey approach with DSA on Saturday vs. Point and got spanked.  He told us what was wrong with his team, who am I to question that?

I hope the WIAC and the MWC is well represented in the NCAA tourney but bashing each other here isn't going to get that done.   ;)

It does DIRECTLY EFFECT the MWC's Pool C chances because all those teams are in the MIDWEST REGION.  There are 8 regions when the NCAA starts their selection process.  Yes, Washington U or Anderson could get "shipped" to the Great Lakes or South regions in regards to the BRACKET, but they still originate from the Midwest Region.

Below is last year's Regional Rankings according to the NCAA.  This is what I mean.

Looking at the Midwest Region and the West Region, if you remember...

Whitewater's regional was Whitewater (West Region) v Loras (West Region) and Lawrence (Midwest Region) vs. Wheaton (Midwest Region)...

I believe this is what you mean.  Teams get moved around once they are selected, but they still have to be picked from their regions.

I'll make RED the tournament (AQ) winners
I'll make BLUE Pool C contenders

A quick congrats to John Grotberg for becoming the all time scoring leader in Grinnell basketball history. He's been a lot of fun to 'watch' and it's going to take someone special to break the record that he establishes at the end of the season.
