Where are the Knox posters with the score???

Monmouth 52, Knox 46

Thanks to "my sources," by way of Phoenix by way of Galesburg.

Am more than happy to provide info. when the Siwash are involved, even if I get it all the way from the desert Southwest.  I don't have any other info., but 52-46 doesn't sound like a pretty game.

I was in attendance at Monmouth-Knox.

Some LONG scoring droughts for both teams, including one from the 10-minute mark to under five minutes. For a while there, it looked like we were headed for a winning score of 45 or so.

For the Scots, Milroy provided a big boost off the bench down the stretch. He scored six or seven late points and pulled down some key rebounds. Eric Grant was solid handling the ball, and the team (mostly Cory Gruber) kept Knox's Weatherbee from getting many clean looks.

Weatherbee showed a quick release and NBA range BUT didn't make many shots (read: his 25-footers looked good on the way but rimmed out). He's been up and down from what I've seen in boxscores, and tonight was not an up night.

Goedeke was solid, and I liked one of Knox's points guards (Ortiz?). It seemed like he had a lot of poise, and I think he could emerge into a strong floor leader for them.

All in all, not a pretty win for the Scots, but a win. A weekend sweep at home will admittedly be hard but it would put the Scots right back in the race.

Many thanks, Schwannie.
I knew we could count on you.

Which school maintains the MWC web site?

The content this year seems really sparse compared to other years. The scores from last night aren't posted and the standings are not updated. I know it's not a big deal, but the quality this year is significantly below what it was in previous years.

Sorry, Pat, I guess I should know better than to look somewhere else... :D

Man, looked at the box score and GC went cold from 3pt-land. The previous two games, they had been on fire, hitting near 50%. I don't expect that everynight, but from 50% to 22% (last night) is odd.

They will have to be better on Friday and Saturday if they want to win.

The MWC site is headquartered at Ripon. Much of the writing and posting of boxscores was the task of the conference's SID, Monmouth grad Matt Troha. He did an outstanding job while he was there. Matt left at the beginning of the academic year to take a position with the Illinois High School Association and, to my understanding, a full-time SID has not yet been hired to replace him.

I was also frustrated by the lack of boxscores last night, but I was able to find one this morning. Monmouth's Milroy had all seven of his points down the stretch, and the Scots were led by Cogdill, who scored 13.

For Knox, Wetherbee was 2-of-11 from the field for seven points. Kozak had 12 points and 10 boards and Goedeke added nine and eight.

Grotberg was off tonight, scoring only 10 points on 3-12 shooting...

Could it be the D3Hoops cover story jinx?    (By the way, when I think about Grinnell and "how high" somebody can go, basketball isn't the first thing that comes to mind.)   8)

The Roop

I couldn't get the feed for either Beloit game so I watched Carroll @Ripon on the womens side and Grinnell @Lake Forest on the mens side. I tried Monmouth @Knox scottie but couldn't get that one either. I've had issues with the Beloit feed in the past but have never missed an entire game, let alone two; so I don't know what's going on with that.

Apparently there was some confusion in the Beloit camp as to what I meant by balanced scoring. What I had in mind was 7 or 8 players scoring between 8-10 points each, not 11 players averaging 3.72 each. At least the nightmare stretch of the schedule is over for a while. Considering the teams they've played there's absolutely nothing wrong with being 1-4 in conference play. But to lose by 30+ in 3 straight games, that's simply unacceptable.

12-4 will make the MWC Tournament, so just run the table and you will be 12-4. See how easy it is.

Back to the womens game for a moment. Up 2 with 4.5 seconds left Carroll has to pick up the defense at half court and foul. YES. I said foul. Worst case scenario Ripon hits both and ties the game but you still have time left for a shot. As it happened Carroll played soft D and nearly lost as Ripon got off a 3 that nearly went in for the win.

Mens game. Lake Forest had Grinnell on the ropes for a while. Then Grinnell remembered how to shoot.

it was too late to post last night (yep, I'm getting older), but....

congrats to the GC team for gritting out a win against LFC - in the face of really unfortunate 3 shooting. For us GC faithful, the fact that they won with that kind of shooting bodes well for the coming (extremely tough) double-header against CC and SNC. This team is deep and disciplined (yes, Virginia, a GC team can be disciplined) and talented, from freshmen to seniors.

So, good luck guys!
Threes are better than twos....

They appeared to be trying to play hide the Chalupa last night rather than shoot the rock.  Now Grtberg will have to average 37 PPG (no I didn't calculate it) to get his bust in gold in the lobby of Darby.

Dang, CU-RC second half score was 62-57. Sounds like a Grinnell game!

Chalupa!!

The Roop

PennAtlantic emailed me an apology for not being able to see the games. The kicker is that I didn't even contact them about it; I only mentioned it here. So should I worry that Big Brother is watching The Roop or just chalk it up to great customer service ???

I think they're just practicing good Roop-service.

By the way, The Roop, I noticed that the BC women are atop the MWC.  What is the final score if BC's men and women scrimmage each other?  Just curious...   ;D
