The Roop

Actually I know where "T" lives but his assistance isn't required. I have a Marine Corps brother in neighboring Waukegan, IL. My original plan was to attend this game with him and then adjourn ourselves to the Bally Muck for a few adult beverages afterwards. Tom is an Alderman now so I probably could have gotten away with smoking in public. A rarity in the Peoples Republic of Illinois these days. Unfortunately my plans got changed for this weekend so I couldn't make the trip. Probably a good thing as at the very least I would have been asked to leave this game.

Am I a little biased. Sure. I know Travis Towns personally. But I also know taxation without representation when I see it. 10 hours after the fact and I'm still fuming about this one. Long time posters know that this never happens. New posters probably think I'm a nutcase but that's OK.

Little Dave & Big Dave double technical to seal the loss for Grinnell last night. I think SNC had them anyway but how stupid is that.    :o

What this weekend has taught us is that Grinnell will not be hosting the MWC Tournament. Travel-wise that's nice but I was looking forward to the crawfish ettoufe' at wherever restaurant dc was talking about previously.

Carroll doesn't get ranked this season. So it's up to St. Norbert to carry the MWC banner. Carroll has 5 "gimmies" the rest of the way and only 4 challenges.  They might get some votes in this weeks poll but don't hold your breathe.

I'm thinking some taco burgers from Taco Johns will satisfy my palet today.

Uh Roop, Carroll got 12 votes last week. :-\

Please don't look upon this as a challenge of your authority and all-knowingness.

TY ft06, I will rephrase it. Carroll may get "more" votes this week. Still not sure they get ranked this season however. Two questionable losses early and it's not like they have a tough row to hoe the rest of the way.

With the peanut issues in the news, the Lawrence University Athletic Department today ordered an extra 100# of popcorn for Friday night's visit of the Grinnell Circus to Alexander Gym.

I've also heard that to fill in for the protein shortage they are considering vending in some "Grotbergers" from Tom's Drive In.  The Grotberger is a triple patty burger, only ketchup.  Their legal department has written up the following release for potential consumers "The Grotberger is very good, one of the best ever, but it could cause you to throw it up (from) just about anywhere."

Tom's was not willing to try the Double Davey dog, as their bakery couldn't deliver on the buns on such short notice.  They are considering the Bobby "Long" Dog, in an effort to appease visiting fans looking for a kosher alternative to the Grotberger.

The local Taco Johns, upon hearing of this short term protein shortage, wanted to see if they could get the beef and bean Chalupa business but was warned of potential patent issues with Taco Bell.

See you Friday under the Big Top.

Well since scottie is unwilling to make the trip to Beloit this weekend I may have to don one of my Grinnell shirts and head to Appleton Friday. FYI T2K, it doesn't matter how much popcorn LU ordered if they still insist on popping it one kernel at a time.

Roop, you can't be suggesting that any two kernels pop at the exact same time, are you?  That could unsettle the orbit of the Earth, and shorten lines at the LU food stand, leading visiting fans to think the food wasn't any good, thereby reducing sales.   LU doesn't charge for your ticket so they need to ream you at the popcorn stand.  Our last Athletic Director left LU over disputes regarding popcorn procedure.   ::)

I've been there enough so I know how it works. You walk in before the game and there are two boxes full of bags of popcorn ready to sell. Then everybody says "hey, popcorn I want some", the stampede begins and the concession stand is quickly sold out. Somewhere midway through the first half it dawns on them to make another batch; which is typically ready 45 seconds before halftime. Then when the second half is ready to start they make another batch. By then everybody has lost interest so they end up giving it away around the 5:00 mark. Sound familiar ??

If they kept making it ahead of time, not after the fact, just think of how much money they would have for the music department.........................
