The Roop

I've seen Grinnell quite a bit the past few seasons and when they struggle it's because A. their opponent can match their speed or B. their opponent plays tight defense and denies the 3.

I say it's time to bring back "Goon" offense @Lawrence on Friday.

Sounds like some "Arsenault Red Hots" need to be added to the menu.

Hey scottie, you say the next football game in Beloit?  When in recent history has there been a football game of any sorts in Beloit?   ::)

Sorry Roop.  ;)

No need to apologize to me SNCOLDAD, there's not a great deal of football history at Beloit. Save for the 1929 season in which Beloit was the only team to score against the University of Michigan.

TY ft06, I will rephrase it. Carroll may get "more" votes this week. Still not sure they get ranked this season however. Two questionable losses early and it's not like they have a tough row to hoe the rest of the way.

Seeing the most recent Top 25 I've decided you're right. Carroll went 3-0 this past week and managed to lose 2 points in the polls. St. Norbert is still #17.

Carroll's only hope for increased recognition in the polls is to announce their intent to move back to the CCIW.

Could the name, Carroll University, possibly be throwing off voters who are convinced Carroll is DI or DII?  Carroll College would probably be up to #20 by now.   :D

More importantly, will the incredible increase in prestige associated with the new moniker cause the tuition to skyrocket to levels that will cause Schultzie problems with recruiting?   ;D

Carroll also didn't beat anyone.  A 4-pt. win over a 4-8 Ripon team, 6-pt. win over a 8-5 Grinnell team (that I feel doesn't get much respect in the basketball world) and a double-digit win over a 4-9 Monmouth team.  Nothing to write home about.

Wait until the end of the month when they play St. Norbert (ranked) and Lawrence ( could by a solid 12-4 by then) on the 28th and 31st.  It also depends on what happens around them...

I understand they didn't play anyone but St. Norbert didn't play anyone either and they gained 32 points this week.

I beg to differ!  Monmouth is one of the best 4-9 teams in the country!!   ;)

The MWC has improved but we still don't get reputation votes as some other conferences do.

Before half the CCIW board chimes in I'm merely using that conference as an example of something I disagree with and am not picking on the conference itself.

Take the CCIW for example. Quality conference no doubt but I don't see how they have three teams ranked when two of them have 4 losses at this point. 12-4 means you've lost 25% of your games. Regardless of the schedule they played I don't think they should be in there yet. Get to 17-4 or 18-4 and I would have no problem with it.

I'm sure the area voters understand that Carroll is a good team but voters from around the country are probably looking at the 3 losses. Losing to Oshkosh and LaCrosse is never going to help any ones  case and the margin in the Whitewater game was down right ugly. So aside from the Stevens Point win Carroll has played only one other ranked team and got blown out.

Using my above argument, that a .750 team shouldn't be in yet, it's equally difficult for me to argue for a .786 team. MWC or not.

PC, Roop and I kid around with each other a lot. No harm intended.

Now as far as SNC not beating anyone this year Old School. What about Platteville when they were ranked #1????  ???

Or were you referring to just this week? If so, then we also have to look at who dropped and why. That can cause teams such as SNC to climb in points. The points have to go somewhere.  :D

As far as Carroll UNIVERSITY goes, what's in a name.  ;)  If they can pull one or 2 upsets against Larry and SNC, they may get that position in the top 25. That should get them a little respect.
