John Grotberg was featured by SI according to the MWC website.  I looked at what was printed and wondered if SI actually had a fact-checker look at the piece.

Grotberg's 13 three pointers in one game was certainly not a record.  Jeff Clement hit 15, 16, 17, and 19 three pointers back in the late 90's.

I may or may not be right, but I believe that there was a player at Redlands who hit 20 in a game a few years ago.

Does anyone know the right answer to what the record is?

I guess it's time to ask the important question--what are the tie breakers if we end up with a 4 way (or 3 way) tie at the top of the MWC?  Who hosts the tourney then?

I say find a nuetral site in Appleton and always have it there.   8)

I don't think that many will tie. How the tie breakers work depends on how many tied teams have played each other twice. When it's a single game they toss those out, as I understand it, and then compare common opponents with the same number of games. The MWC always posts the scenarios when the time comes. So I don't think we need to worry about it yet.

If LU runs the table and somebody picks off Grinnell we will be going to Alex. LU would be tied with St. Norbert (if they don't lose any more) but would have beaten them twice.

A permanent neutral site would be cool, in theory, but they never work as far as attendance goes. It's not like we're talking about Hope vs. Calvin playing in Joe Louis Arena (or wherever it was) and drawing 11,000 +. The MWC Tournament figures to draw 2000 in a good year. I can't see the Bradley, Kohl or Resch Centers wanting to host an event that won't generate enough revenue to keep the lights on.

It's a pretty boring experience to watch a game in a 10,000 seat house when only 1900 show up. Been there, done that. Although the concession stands were much better.

LU leads KC 41-28 at halftime.  Anyone have any other scores?

Grinnell wins 117-97 over Beloit... Grotberg with 38 thanks to Beloit fouling him about 10 times in the last 5 minutes after the game was out of hand.  Grinnell's big 3 combine for 85 points?!?  Davey A with 19, and Long with 28.

Winning out could = Grinnell MWC tournament?!?

wc2viking

LU wins by about 15 over KC.

SNC sneaks by LFC in overtime 73-64, narrowly avoiding a 3-game losing streak after winning 15 in a row.  I expect that SNC will fall out of the top 25, leaving the MWC without a team.

Roop:

It should be held somewhere in southern WI (good centralized MWC location) and the site should have no chance of being the home of one of the participants.  Any place come to mind?  ;)

St. Norbert 10-2
Carroll 10-3
Grinnell 10-3
Lawrence 10-3
Ripon 6-6
Illinois College 5-7
Lake Forest 5-7
Monmouth 4-9
Knox 2-11
Beloit 1-12

3 conference games to go and the tourney is virtually set already.  That's pretty sad.

I don't know the tie breakers or whatever, but Ripon is 3 (in the loss column) games behind Lawrence, Grinnell and Carroll.

They only play Grinnell once and they lost.  They lost to Carroll and beat Lawrence and need to play them each one more time...and they also have to play St. Norb's first, so the rest of the games could be moot after Wednesday.

I beg to differ.  Even though the top four are set, the location is up for grabs.  With four teams still battling it out, the MWC race seems more compelling that the WIAC (your conference, I assume, by your tagline at the bottom).  What might be more "sad" is that your conference leader's (your school?) only two losses are to MWC teams.   ;D

BTW, Ripon beat the Scots on a buzzer beater.  Expletive!

Yes TK2 Beloit would be a good centralized location but it would become a home game(s) for Carroll as I'm not sure how well the other teams would travel. It might draw 500.

I think LU would bring 100 plus fans to that tourney site.

By the way, your new tagline is priceless.  ;D

I don't think LU brings 100 but I'll give it to you. OK. 100 from LU, 300 from Carroll (as they are only an hour away) and 50 each from St. Norbert and Grinnell = 500. Grinnell is too long of a trip to bring any more than that and St. Norbert doesn't travel for basketball the way they do for football.

As for my tag line. When facts are self evident they can't be ignored.

System Error

I don't have the patience or drive to check to see if this is possible but perhaps someone else is:
Is there anyway there could be a four way for the Conference Championship.

I'm pretty sure Carroll didn't have 300 at the Whitewater sectional a couple of years ago.  Maybe half that.

Personally, I think the CCIW tourney race is the most exciting - Only one team is out of the tournament with four games to go, but the other seven, seperated by three games, are still all technically able to win conference. In fact the top five teams are only seperated by one game. Granted, I am biased, but still... compared to the WIAC and MWC, nothing is set - no one has clinched a spot, all but one team could still make or lose their playoff spot. and seeding probably won't be decided till the last day.
