Nice job Beloit.  Miss a billion free throws when you have a chance to win today.  Then start turning the ball over in overtime.  Nice plan.

Let's be fair. Beloit has the least talent in the MWC yet they are giving it all they've got.

wc2viking

Beloit hits a 3 pointer with 1.5 seconds left to send the game to overtime #2.

Let's actually be fair.  Knox has the least talent... only scored 70 against Grinnell tonight?  We don't even play any defense...

gcfan33

Yay Beloit.  2nd Overtime you got it right.   :D  One step closer to a Taco John's sponsored MWC tournament.  Go Lawrence.

Congratulations, The Roop!!  What happened?  :o  :)

I just cancelled a lunch meeting today so that I can read Roops treatise on the victory over Carroll.

Conference Tournament watch 2009:

Standings as of 2/9/09

SNC 11-2
CU 10-3
GC 10-3
LU 10-3

Games remaining:
SNC: @RC, @LU, CU
CU: @BC, RC, @SNC
GC: @KC, IC, @MC
LU: SNC, BC, @ RC

GC 0-1 vs SNC 0-2 Vs CU, 1-0 Vs LU
LU 2-0 vs SNC, 1-1 vs CU 0-1 vs GC

Impressive work larry_u.  It would appear that the most likely way Grinnell hosts is if they and LU tie.

Based on the schedule, I think it is reasonable that GC wins out and end up 13-3.
Then LU would need to beat Norbs and beat BC and RC (both reasonably likely). That put them at 13-3.
At that point, Grinnell becomes a fan of Ripon.

Carroll would need to lose one; Norbs would have to lose two. Carroll beats BC, so we can put that game aside. Presuming the Norb loss to Larry (above), that means Norb's has to lose to Ripon or Carroll.

If they (Norb's) beat Carroll, then we have the one Carroll loss and Norb's would have to lose to Ripon.
If Carroll beats Norb's, then Carroll would have to lose to Ripon.

I suppose the best thing that could happen to Grinnell is for Ripon to go on a three game winning streak!

Clear as mud.     ??? ;D

He swings. He misses...BADLY.

CU has really hit the skids haven't they?

Your final standings are likely correct but I'm thinking you're a bit generous with the winning %'s. Ripon is surging, the law of averages says Beloit will knock somebody off and Knox is no longer a gimme. You have to play 5 on 8 when you go to Lake Forest and IC is always a long trip.

14-2, 13-3, 11-5, 11-5 may be the final records of the tournament teams.

Do you honestly see either Lawrence or Grinnell losing at Knox?  Do you honestly think Beloit will win@ Lawrence?

The ripon thing I could see...they can get hot and play with either LU CU or SNC, but I really don't see Knox or Beloit doing anything to change this race.

Congratulations, The Roop!!  What happened?  :o  :)

What happened was "it was written" that's what. When I predict a 3-20 season then suddenly take them over Carroll in the pickem league it's safe to say that I noticed something, or heard something. In this case I heard something after I made my selection and refused to change it when I was encouraged to do so. I'm expecting an email today on that one ;

As far as Carroll goes I think they are eliminated as a potential host but if they get Ladwig back they are as likely to win the tournament as anybody. With Hoch and Ladwig that's a different team than they are with just one of the dynamic duo.

On to the game itself.............. When you look at the stats you will see Hoch at or near his average. What the stats don't show is that PK effectively shut him down for 35 minutes and most of his points came near the end of regulation and in the over times from the charity stripe. Had Beloit shot even a reasonable percentage from 3 point range it might have been over at halftime but they were 1 for infinty I think. At least they kept shooting and they started to fall in the second half and beyond.

Both teams were pretty content to keep each other in the game as neither shot particularly well in regulation. Definitely a Beloit pace but in the ot's it was Carrolls pace. 58 points in 40 minutes and 28 points in 10 minutes of over time. Hmmmmmmmm. Just a theory but my guess is Beloit is better suited to an up tempo game than the slowdown variety.

Neither team managed 40% from the floor. Carroll had a big advantage in 3 point shooting at 42.9 - 23.8 but they were only 20% in overtime and Beloit was 60% in the extra periods. Free throws go to Beloit 80.6 - 61.3 for the game. In over time it was 91.7 - 75.

Watch out for LU creeping up.  Assuming they run the table, I could see them up around 5 or 6 by season's end.  They would still have to get past 2 CCIW teams to get a pool C bid, but its not completely out of the question....just not likely.

CCIW will not get 4 in and Lawrence still has to play Americas Team. So those ranking are pretty meaningless.  8)

Conference Tournament watch 2009: Otherwise known as Taco Johns?  Alex Popcorn?  De Pere...really??

Standings as of 2/12/09

SNC 12-2
GC 11-3
LU 10-3
CU 10-4

Games remaining:
SNC @LU, CU
CU:  RC, @SNC
GC:  IC, @MC
LU: SNC, BC, @ RC

The 4 way tie @ 12-4 is still possible, but not looking likely.

SNC would have to lose to LU and CU
CU would have to win @ SNC and beat RC
GC would have to lose 1 game of the two
LU would have to win against SNC and lose one of the other two.

In that case if all 4 teams tied at 12-4 Head to head would be:
SNC 1-0 vs GC, 1-1 vs CU, 0-2 Vs LU
CU  2-0 vs GC, 1-1 vs SNC, 1-1 vs LU
GC 0-1 vs SNC 0-2 Vs CU, 1-0 Vs LU
LU 2-0 vs SNC, 1-1 vs CU 0-1 vs GC

This is Carroll's only way of hosting the tournament.

If I had to guess....here would be my final standings:
GC  13-3
LU  13-3
SNC 13-3
CU  11-5.

In this senario LU would host due to best record against the two other tied teams. If LU loses one of their last three games they can not host.

If SNC wins @ LU on Saturday they will host due to their head to head tie-breaking win over Grinnell

For Grinnell to host, they need to win both their remaining games. and SNC to lose their 2 remaining games.

We should pretty much have a good idea which 2 teams it should come down to after Saturday's SNC @ LU game.  The winner of that game controls their own destiny.

I wouldn't say they have the least talent, but the youngest talent.....anyway GREAT win last night, we got our money's worth....even tho we didn't pay to get in! ;D ;D As far as Ladwig, I wouldn't expect him back this season.........just from what I heard in the stands.
