Predicted on January 24, 2009 and I QUOTE:
"It is altogether possible that [Grinnell] will win out after this game against Carroll, and also possible that SNC will beat Carroll twice.  Also possible, but not likely, is that Grinnell still could host the tournament if they win out from this point and Carroll and SNC split and both falter down the stretch.

In 2001, Grinnell was 3 games back at this point in the season and in fourth place.  They won out and hosted the tournament thanks to a Lake Forest and IC implosion.

This season doesn't look that different.  Some teams stacked at the top and what appears to be an easy schedule for Grinnell after today."

Now that the tournament is Back in Darby once more, with Grinnell College as MWC regular season champs AGAIN... it is time to take the next step and win two more and get to the big dance!

Congrats, GC, and congrats to Long, Roewe, Idrissa, and Grotberg - excellent work and lots of fun over the past 4 years. It'll be good to end it in Darby. Good luck next week!
Threes are better than twos....

er, and congrats to Arsenault, or as we know him, 'mr. assist'....

I'm glad Grinnell won the reg. season championship, but that doesn't help my travel arrangements.  I won't be able to travel to see the Darby.

Carroll would've been perfect and Appleton and Green Bay would've been iffy at best.

Oh well.

Come on Larry U, you  just don't want to make the long drive, not that I blame ya...

I won't be where it is either way.  I'll probably be broadcasting the MIAC Championship game here on d3hoops.com
Sweet! Good for us and you.

I was a first year at GC in 2001 and that team was totally different.  This team is senior-dominated while that team had a few good seniors (Skarning in particular) but was really paced by a strong freshman class (Wood, Malinowski and Nordy).  I still think the reason we didn't win in 2003 was that Malinowski got knocked out for the rest of the year in our game at Drake....

Greek Tragedy

Midwest Region
1. Washington U. 21-1 20-1 (UAA) BEAT Carnegie Mellon, LOST to Rochester
2. Wheaton (Ill.) 20-3 16-3 (CCIW) WON at Carthage, BEAT North Central
3. Elmhurst 17-6 17-6 (CCIW) WON at North Central, BEAT Carthage
4. Transylvania 17-5 14-3 (HCAC) BEAT Mount St. Joseph, WON at Anderson
5. North Central (Ill.) 16-7 14-5 (CCIW) LOST to Elmhurst, LOST at Wheaton
6. Lawrence 15-6 15-6 (MWC) BEAT Beloit
7. Augustana 17-7 16-7 (CCIW) WON at Illinois Wesleyan
8. St. Norbert 18-4 17-4 (MWC) LOST to Carroll

I can see Lawrence moving up again and Carroll jumping in to replace St. Norb's.  Carroll won twice this week, once against ranked opponent St. Norb's.

Greek Tragedy

It's Elmhurst v Augustana and Wheaton v North Central in the CCIW tourney.

I think Augustana and North Central are on the brink of missing out on a Pool C bid, if the latter already isn't with two losses this week.

I think Elmhurst should get in if they lose to Wheaton in the CCIW finals.

The only way the MWC has a chance to get two in is if Lawrence loses in the MWC tourney.

If things go as planned, Wash U (already clinched), Wheaton (CCIW), and Transylvania (HCAC) won't be in Lawrence's way since they would win they respective conference's AQs.  So, regarding the Midwest Region, Pool C candidates would be Elmhurst and Lawrence to start off.
