None of our opinions matter all that much, in the big picture...  What say THE ROOP???

I think if Grinnell was 100% that LU was ripe for the picking as they had their moments of sloppy play and foul trouble. I didn't have a dog in the fight either way as I know people on both sides. I just suit up in my Beloit shirt and jeans on Fridays. Beloit shirt and camo on Saturdays. Didn't plan on doing that, it just dawned on me that I always did, so now it's a tradition. Hopefully the next tradition will be conference tournaments in Beloit.

*Elmhurst .740
St. Norbert .739
*Bethel .720
Grinnell .714
Augustana .680
Franklin .629

Grinnells Pool C chances aren't looking good against teams in the area. Elmhurst and Bethel are still in action as I post this but I am giving them losses for the sake of comparison. Not enough Pool Cs to go around this year given the number of upsets elsewhere.

This is why it should be Pool C criteria for everybody:

Aurora 14-10 .583 in region = Pool A bid.

It'll never happen, Roop. The NCAA not only has member schools, it has member conferences as well. Conference sensibilities carry an enormous amount of weight within the organization, and to reduce everyone to Pool C criteria would in effect say to the conferences, "We're taking the automatic bids out of your hands and keeping them for ourselves to apportion out."

Besides, you're in the minority when it comes to not liking the underdog. Schools like Aurora are the D3 equivalent to the Gonzagas and Arkansas-Little Rocks and Valpos and George Masons of D1 -- the schools that everyone with a heart (and no vested interest in the opponent) likes to see succeed during March Madness.

You call it being in the minority, I call it thinking out of the box. LOL. I don't think it would matter to the NCAA if everyone was independent. But if conferences are so important, how about this. Cut the automatics to 30 and give every conference an at large. Regular season winner = automatic. Conference Tournament winner = at large. It will eliminate the screaming that always happens when conference X gets 3 and conference Y only gets 1.

Yes, it would. A lot of the decisionmaking on the NCAA level is done by conferences rather than individual schools, and the organization gives its member leagues a tremendous amount of leeway when it comes to setting rules, standards, monitoring infractions, etc. The MWC is a perfect example of that; look at the stricter set of recruiting rules and the truncated regular season that MWC men's basketball teams have in comparison to other leagues. Those are standards that the league sets for itself that supersede NCAA guidelines.

Every member conference gets one automatic bid. And each member conference can apportion that automatic bid however it sees fit to do so. All but one league choose to do it with a conference tournament; the UAA, on the other hand, gives it to the regular-season champion. In other words, the leagues themselves determine the automatic-bid selection criteria, not the poobahs that run the D3 tournament.

Obvious;y no MWC teams other then LU will be dancing, and I think after all the upsets only Elmhurst will be getting in from the Midwest.  I think Augie is gone after Puget Sound lost....

Too many Pool C bids to teams that should have had Pool A bids...
Better Dead then Red

It will be interesting to see if that loss also costs Puget Sound a bye. That could mean a 4 team regional out west. PS vs. CMS and Whitworth vs. a UW-Hired Gun to eliminate all the west coast teams in the first weekend as a cost savings measure.

Maybe NCAA should sell the west coast teams to the NAIA to save $$$   ;)

The first leg pf the Roop Express will be leaving Grinnell at 10:30 am.  We leave Grinnell better than we found it.

Thanks to GC for a nice job hosting.  I met Little Davey this weekend and he is a nice guy.  Hope he heals and gets to play where he wants to next year.  I take back all the anti-Grinnell stuff I said here historically; except for the scoring banners, those are corny.

If anyone from Grinnell can tell me what the students were yelling at us last night when we were up 20, sounded like "_______ school" I would appreciate it.  The students were not good at annunciation.  But we got to say "woosh" 46 times so we have that going for us, which is nice.

I didn't yell whoosh once but was amazed at how many spanish speaking fans I had from Lawrence with the "El Roop, El Roop, El Roop" chant.

They were saying 'safety school'....as it is well known that many LU students tried to get into GC, but couldn't make the cut.  ;)

Ah yes, the wit ot the GC student body.  A big part of why I will never complain when the Monmouths of the world roll up 69 on them in football.  Of course then after the game they can amuse each other with stories about how they almost got in to Carleton or Middlebury depending on what part of the country they are from.

LOL. And that's because, boorish behavior by 19 and 20 years old is the exclusive capacity of Grinnell students Dolph? That's a good one.

Yeah, the Grinnell students spend and have spent a great deal of time and effort trying to rattle other teams with intellectual 'snobbery'. No one got it worse than Coe when I went to Grinnell. So what? It's gamesmanship. Crude gamesmanship to be sure, but kids that age are rarely known for their subtlety.
