Pat and the rest of the D3hoops crew's first projections are out, and it has Lawrence hosting Buena Vista in a first round game with the winner to go to a Wheaton team coming off a bye.

Interesting matchups, and a group of three teams that have a lot of recent history...

I don't know if I like that or not.  I like the home game, but didn't want Wheaton so fast.  I guess I should have expected it considering how strong the Midwest/ West is, but if this is remotely close to what the NCAA puts out, it's not going to be an easy road for LU.

I would be thrilled if LU got a home game against anyone.  Although I certainly acknowledge the expertise of the D3hoops gurus, I suspect that LU will travel to UW-somebody in a 4-team pod.  If they weren't good enough to host last year with a 22-2 record and a regional ranking of #3, I can't imagine they will be able to host this year.

A regional ranking of #3 isnt that impressive for one thing. There are three WIAC teams but none likely won't host with St. Thomas, Wheaton and Wash U most likely to do so.  Stevens Point is a good candidate, but the women may host ahead of the men.

Wash U has the same deal with the women's team...the Wash U men may be forced on the road in Rounds 1/2.

Can I suggest that Grinnell spend a little of their endowment earnings on some better equipment for the announcers?  I think it was Matt....he sounded like you getting patched through a NASA mission.  The only thing missing was the "beep beep beep" in the background.  The championship round, especially, is too big of an event to be coming up short on the production details.
HEY PAL, DON'T BLOCK THE SHOT!

The Roop

Too busy spending money on their football stadium in order to compete with Mt. Monmouth. The renderings of the new pool and indoor track facilities look pretty nice too.

If anyone from Grinnell can tell me what the students were yelling at us last night when we were up 20, sounded like "_______ school" I would appreciate it.  The students were not good at annunciation.  But we got to say "woosh" 46 times so we have that going for us, which is nice.

They were saying 'safety school'....as it is well known that many LU students tried to get into GC, but couldn't make the cut.  ;)

Ah yes, the wit ot the GC student body.  A big part of why I will never complain when the Monmouths of the world roll up 69 on them in football.  Of course then after the game they can amuse each other with stories about how they almost got in to Carleton or Middlebury depending on what part of the country they are from.
LOL. And that's because, boorish behavior by 19 and 20 years old is the exclusive capacity of Grinnell students Dolph? That's a good one.

Yeah, the Grinnell students spend and have spent a great deal of time and effort trying to rattle other teams with intellectual 'snobbery'. No one got it worse than Coe when I went to Grinnell. So what? It's gamesmanship. Crude gamesmanship to be sure, but kids that age are rarely known for their subtlety.

Crude gamemanship--I guess you could call it that.  For kids that smart, their approach was far from intellectual.  I hope they were drunk because if they were sober someone should verify who took their SAT tests for them.  I've seen high school student sections take a more cerebral approach to their abuse of players.

Here's a few of the brain waves that came from the GC section (I know they were frustrated from getting their asses kicked, so I'll only list a few of these braintesters):

Chris Page--"T-shirt" --he wore a matching shirt under his uniform, something you see every week from teams that don't wear hoods.

Doug Kadison--"Baldy"--wow, now that is the deepest moniker I've ever heard for someone who has a shaved head.  Doug might like a hood on his warmup, it would keep him warmer.

There were more but I'll save the space.

Again, thanks to GC for hosting, great facilities and your staff were very nice including Coach and Dave II Arsenault.

Could you move it closer to Appleton  ;)

Other highlights of the Grinnell Oddysey:

1) The stop at Saints' Rest (nice to meet Jeff P and his lovely bride) where Roop knocked off two Roopacinos on Saturday morning.  We tied him to the luggage rack for an hour after that just to bring him down a bit,  :D
2)  The stop at the Darby auxiliary gym about an hour before game time Saturday.  There was a hoops game on one end and some sort of faux jousting going on the other end, too.  At least all the Grinnell students weren't drinking prior to the game, but unless there is a Medieval Times in Grinnell, I couldn't figure out what was going on,  :-\
3) No stops at Taco Johns.  Had a good sandwich on Saturday noon at the bar upstairs next to the Voodoo Lounge, sorry I forgot the name of the place,  :)
4) The beauty of the architecture on the campus, including a bunch of new buildings, was impressive.

OK, I'm calm now. JeffP double dipped me on the first one. Then a staffer made the second one. I've concluded that it's not a Roopacinno unless Jeff makes it. But I will take the staffers name and number as a fair settlement  ;)

As dashing as Jeffp is, the staffer would be a substantially better number to get.  ;)

Lawrence plays WashU at Elmhurst.

Sigh, I was hoping for a home game.  Oh well...

Lawrence can make a real statement for the MWC if they can survive the first weekend.
