DePagter has a long history of kicking Oshkosh's ass which would help, but I think you are right, it is too soon.
Care to elaborate on this "long history of ass kicking?"  Last I checked, he's only 1-1 against UWO as a Head Coach.   ::)

He was the assistant for the prior 4 years as well.

Fort Knox

Knox has announced its recruiting class for next year....the teams top players a year ago were mostly freshmen and sophomores, so they didnt need a lot of bodies. I would have liked to seen big body in the 6'7 or 6'8 range, but it look likes coach purlee is building some depth that should create some good competition for the minutes of the departing seniors. The team struggled to shoot last year, so hopefully Horvath or Akkawi will help with that.

Ian Horvath, 6-3, G, 17 ppg, Addison Trail HS
Yazin Akkawi, 6-1, G, 15 ppg, Morgan Park, Chicago
Ryan Mahoney, 6-2, G, HS teams top defender as junior and senior, Oviedo, FL
Lukas Shaw, 6-5 (245) F/C, won state title and finished third in HS, Portland, OR

Any news on the rest of the MWC recruiting classes for 2009 now that Knox has reported in. All of the CCIW schools have released the names of their recruiting classes, so there must be more info available on the MWC schools.

I keep hoping my alma mater Beloit will draw some talent to get them on the road to at least mediocrity, but no published news on the Beloit recruits as far as I can tell. Maybe Roop has some eligibility left and can audit some courses.

The Roop

For me eligibility wouldn't be the problem. Tuition and the admissions office would be. They're replete with 6'2" guys any way so I don't see myself having a place on the team.

Wow.  Shocking.  Wonder what this does to the MWC race this year, as Carroll arguably was viewed as the favorites.  Hoch and company will still be on the court, but it always takes some adjustments to get used to a new coach.

The Roop

Promoting an assistant is probably the best option given the timing. Assuming they don't lose any recruits it should be a smooth transition that way. In the event that some of those recruits are reading the board it's safe to say that Beloit has plenty of roster spots available.

An assistant is unlikely as a replacement at CU. Looking on their website, it appears they have a really young guy in his second year and some older guys who were former HS coaches and likely just helping out. It doesn't appear that Schultz ever had a right-hand man type during his time there that they could now bring back.

Great coach and fun team to watch under Schultz.

They have Hoch coming back, but lose three other starters and their bench was non-existent last year, so I can't say I saw them as a favorite.

I saw them as one of the favorites only because everyone else lost more...

Interesting turn of events at Carroll U.

Here's some of the article from the front page (since some of you skip it entirely to come to the boards)...

Schultz has maintained dual part-time employment over the past several years that included coaching at Carroll while also working as a part-time physical education teacher in the Waukesha school district. He resigned from Carroll to accept full-time employment in the Waukesha school district.

Jacobsen said the resignation came as a surprise, saying Carroll was in the process of putting together a full-time employment package. "I am very disappointed that Coach Schultz decided to end his tenure as the Carroll men's basketball coach," she said. "The university has explored full-time employment opportunities for Coach Schultz on numerous occasions and it was our hope that he would become a full-time member of the university."

A national search for Schultz's successor will begin immediately.

I wonder if Carroll U. told Schultz that they were in the process of putting together
a full-time package for him.  Not sure what kind of health insurance package either the school district or the university had for him as a part timer, but getting full time employment usually means better insurance.  Not sure if that was a reasoning for him.

The Waukesha West head varsity position is open and they have some solid young players coming up.

From hoops guru Mark Miller... Schultz immediately becomes a leading candidate to replace Basile as the Wolverines' next head coach.

Interesting turn of events indeed...has anyone heard who may be viable candidates for this job?
