Titan Q

Everyone I've talked to who was at the IWU/Ripon game came away really impressed with the Red Hawks, by the way.  I guess that high scoring duo Ripon has is outstanding, and the 6-11 kid is not bad at all.

Interested to see how Ripon does in the MWC this year.  Seems like they have the weapons to contend.

I always thought JeffP went swimmin' with the fishes, if you know what I mean.   ;)

No. He finally got a Democrat in the White House but it isn't the utopia he predicted. So he's in hiding.

Last Night Grinnell handled Buena Vista 113-105. Pretty close to the same margin of victory that Ripon had over the Beavers.

The game was played on a neutral site, the Wells Fargo arena in Des Moines.

Buena Vista, as you all may recall is a traditional Iowa Conference power. They returned 8 lettermen and 4 starters from the team that finished 2nd in the Iowa conference last year.

The Pioneers don't appear to have a "star" player(s), but may have decent quality deeper than they have in many years.

Dare we begin to dream?

System Error

While the win against Buena Vista win was good it was against a 1-3 team. True, Buena vita has lost to some good teams so far, so maybe it was better than I think. In regards to the balanced team, I agree. The balance may provide less pressure on certain players. Yet, who do they go to at the end of games. I'm sure that will be figured out as the season continues.

OBC

Well, I like Skelly, Chalupa and Lentsch out there to close out games, BUT none of them is the kind of rock steady ball handler you need. Not sure where that comes from. Chalupa is a clutch kid who seems to get the most out of what he's got.

East Beast

And Chalupa has been very lucky to get the residual stream of cash from Taco Bell that helped build the New Darby gym.  Isn't it amazing how the NCAA can look the other way when it wants to?  ;)

Grinnell also has Brotz and McDonald's, so fans of the system could see a "Fast Food" shift one of these days.

System Error

Well in regards to your late-game players of Lentsch, Chalupa and Skelly. I would agree with Skelly for one reason. Free throw shooting! As we all know free throw games can be won or lost on free throw shooting.

Last season:

Skelly:     85.7% 48-56
Lentsch:  58.6% 17-29
Chalupa:  70.4% 38-54

58.6% from a key player at the end of games is not going to win games for you. As i mentioned a few pages back, last season Grinnell struggled mightily from the free throw line at 64%. Many of their games were lost in the final minutes because they were unable to hold on to a lead.

Hey, how about if we keep posting about Grinnell ad nauseum?   ???   This is starting to look a lot like the football page and all of that Beloit chatter!   ;D

If this is the direction in which Grinnell is going in terms of player names, then it would be more apposite for Coach Arseneault to recruit players named Granola, Soypaste, and Wheatgerm. ;)

Football was just practice for me to get ready for basketball season.

Grinnell won last night, 137-103.

They may have set a new NCAA record, with 19 different players making a 3 point basket (out of the 20 who played in the game).

And thanks to Sager for keeping me on my toes.

And a very fine game it was. The freshmen looked like, well, freshmen, but Griffin Lentsch '13 (who was out most of last year w/injuries) looked pretty darn good as a returning sophomore. Some very promising ball handlers and watch out for 6'6" Jack Adams, who is not afraid to dunk (!) - in fact, I've never seen so many rim-hangers in a GC game. Is this the influence of Dave Jr.? Or an anomaly? Only time will tell.

Good to see you "dc" - means that it is officially basketball season.....now for that "p" guy.....  ;D

Glad to see that Grinnell may have set another record.  Because, of course, that is what The System is all about, right?   ::)   ;)

It appears that the Good Guys gave IWU all they could handle last night.....okay, they didn't get blown out.  81-68.
