Final score in Ripon: RC 125- Grinnell 113. Tomshek, Gillespie and Wurtz play great.

Got to Alex for the visit by Lake Forest.

LU got out early by about 10, then the game tightened up.  A small (students are off) but rowdy LU crowd was not pleased as LF had only 1 foul in the first half despite a very physical presence.  Clark inside was pretty effective and #21 Dialkis hit a few 3's.

Early in the second half the game things got wild and never settled down.  There was an offball foul that Chris Conger argued loudly (and I think really made a ridiculous case for it) asking for flagrant foul.  Wasn't called. The refs did a poor job dealing with the physical fouling inside, very inconsistent.  They really gave Conger a lot of rope as he came to half court at least 5 times to complain and ride the zebras.  Maybe the zoo in Lake Forest is closed.  DePagter, who is no angel at times, looked on quizzically at his opponent and his unusually classless behavior.

LF fought back and with LU up by 2 with 15 seconds left, Clark went up hard and scored and was fouled and converted to go up 60-59.  LU tried to run a set play to John Mays, who was denied, but Chris Siebert (Freshman--Baraboo) drained an arching 3 with 1.3 seconds left.  LF got off a half court shot that bounced off the iron and LU wins 62-60.

This league looks wide open to me below SNC and Ripon.  LU played 4 freshmen extensively, and they played well. Brian Gryz. was especially effective in addition to Siebert at clutch time.  It was hard to see if LU had a go to guy in the Point game, but now they look pretty balanced with John Mays and Boresson both picking up the points as LF's perimeter defense limited Chrisman.

Nice win for LU.   I hope Conger is seeing a cardiologist or whatever kind of doctor looks out for aneurysms.   And the MWC should let the hairless referree from this game go back to high school ball.  He was below even the MWC's incredibly low standards.

Pretty sure I know the one you're talking about. Unfortunately he's not the worst the conference has to offer.

This is a taller one, likely 6'.  I know there is a shorter one, younger than this guy, who is competent by MWC standards.

I've seen MWC refs do NCAA Tournament games and they are quite good. Why they can't see the forest through the trees during regular season play is beyond me.

A couple things occur to me after watching Grinnell this weekend. I thought the press would be a strength this year, as the taller wing players were getting to and holding traps. I believe it still will be as the season progresses. But St Norbert handled it like the nationally ranked team they are. The pioneers looked a step slow against the Knights. That was an ugly game, best forgotten by a young team looking to get better.

The Ripon game, second day 0n the road against a top team was reason for encouragement. Grinnell was right there for most of the game, and this result could go the other way in Darby later in the season.

GC is still a young team and it's early in the year with a brutal pre-Christmas road schedule. They have some good size and lots of ways to score, but keeping up the effort on defense and the boards will make the difference. I believe they look like a playoff team, but I haven't seen a lot of other teams yet, and they could use some strength and depth at the point guard.

Principia and Knox at home this week. Not much rest in between. Should be a chance to right the ship.

Watch out......Knox could be a trap game.

Well, as I said, a chance to right the ship. At this point, I wouldn't be looking past anyone.

There seemed to be a collapse at about 7 minutes out from the end. Until then it was a great back and forth game. I think if they get the confidence to close a game against a tough opponent (or maybe as you said the endurance), they will be causing trouble all up and down the conference.

Which is good.

Grinnell beat Principia out of the SLIAC tonight, 150-90. It wasn't as close as the final score indicated. The Pioneers just overwhelmed the visitors in every facet of the game. Playing as they did tonight, they would have beaten anyone in the conference.

The press created beaucoup turnovers and Grinnell shot 51% (I believe) from the arc in the first half going out to a 94-50 lead at halftime. THAT'S RIGHT 94-50. Team effort altogether. Grinnell is long, athletic and can score from anywhere.

Principia had no size or depth, but several decent players, including Zimmerman (a graduate student) who has been tearing up the SLIAC. They are definitely no St. Norbert.

Overall a DOMINATING performance. I expected a W, but this was amazing to watch.

My girlfriend was so dumb that it took her an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes

We got married eventually and then last week the house was on fire. She tells the kids to not make too much noise or you might wake daddy.

No respect, I get no respect at all.............

Took me a few hours to comprehend what I just saw at Darby Gym tonight with a 150-90 win. I realize the team they played wasn't all that good but to shoot as well as they did is still impressive. Against any team, 29 three pointers is amazing. Levin, Lentsch, Strek and Kaitz were incredible tonight. Lentsch gets about two feet off the ground on his jumper and will be force in the MWC for the next three years.
