Happy Birthday to my old buddy Elvis. Do you remember the time we got those 2 show girls,  loaded the trunk of your Caddy with golf balls and headed over to....sorry, I forgot that was in Vegas and we said we'd never mention it again. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you're hiding out in Beloi....dang, almost did it again.

As long as no one realizes that they've never seen you and the The Roop together, they'll never know.

The Roop

LU improves to 6-0 in the MWC with a 63-42 win over Beloit.

One has to wonder how Beloit managed to beat St. Norbert. The Bucs have looked terrible ever since the StN game. One of those inexplicable upsets that happen every so often in college sports. I really expected the Bucs to be more competitive this year with good returning players and more depth. Still time to have a respectable season, but it is not looking very encouraging right now.

OBC

St. Norbert's loss to Beloit, coupled with yesterday's very close call at home against a good but not great Carroll team leads me to believe the presumptive favorite in the MWC has feet of clay.

Lawrence and Illinois College are surprises on the positive side so far. I'd have to say St. Norbert is just a little disappointing. They may still win it all, but they are dead in everyone's sights this year. They sure looked great against Grinnell, though.

Well, I'll reserve judgement for a mid-season review in a few weeks.

So what's the call tonight, OBC? GC over IC, or the other way around?
Threes are better than twos....

IC 104, GC 92

Let's put it this way - IC led immediately, and that never changed. GC occasionally got within 8-9 pts, but could not keep momentum going. That, plus lots of 3 trouble in the 1st half spelled a loss on the road.

Jeffdc, I had picked Grinnell over IC over on the MWC Pick 'em board. I had to admit it was a pick with the heart. IC has been playing well and the outcome doesn't surprise me. Despite flashes of brilliance our Pioneers haven't been consistent enough. I'm looking forward to the team putting it all together this weekend. We are still looking for the "go to" guy, aren't we? The one who will always deliver in the clutch. The one who can carry the team through stretches of bad play. You know what I mean: 6 or 8 names over the last 15 years come to mind.

The Roop

After comparing 6 different stats I'm looking for Beloit to split this weekend. Unfortunately they need to win both to get back in the race and it will come down to 3 point shooting. Which hasn't been a strong point. 2.5 games back of that 4th place spot isn't the problem with this much time to go. The problem is there are too many teams ahead of them to make up ground in the last 2 weeks of the season. An 0-2 weekend = wait til next year scenario.

Give everybody the green light and over come the shooting issues with volume.

So, Roop are you talking system type volume? Sounds as if the Roop is now a convert. If you can get the Bucs to take 100 shots, no telling what might happen.

The Roop

I wouldn't go that far. More along the lines of if you're open with 25 left on the shot clock, take it. That works better than running the offense down to 5 seconds left and throwing something up to beat the buzzer. That's where the poor shooting % is coming from.

I would agree. Having a shift that reliable delivers in the clutch would be even better. Seems like they get some momentum going - and then it falls apart. It would be great IMO if they could take down Carroll and Lawrence on the home court, though. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

While was one of the only post presences that the school ever had, would you consider him a go to guy. Perhaps you are right!

That would be one heck of a shift.

But you know, there is a ton of talent on the existing team. There's just that 'something' missing. I'm still hopeful that leaders will emerge.
