Good luck GC in your on the road battle with IC today!
Threes are better than twos....

Greek Tragedy

The wheels have officially fallen off the Grinnell train.  3rd loss in a row with a double OT loss to Illinois College.  Ouch.  So much for that showdown with Lake Forest to end the regular season.

It is impossible to disagree.

Actually, that's the first loss in a row. But of course it's 3 losses in the last 4, which is just about as bad. The Lake Forest game is still important, but only from a team psyche perspective.

A shame to lose this one, especially since it was so winnable. 57.6% Free Throws. Sheeesh.

Well, maybe the team can get healthy in the next 2 weeks. They do miss Nitz, and have missed Levin all year.

Felt like a repeat of the earlier IC/GC matchup this season, with the obvious difference that IC won this one. Super cold from the free throw line, and IC was creating the turnovers, not GC. Looking forward, the last game of the year, at home, vs. LFC. Gonna be a tough one.

Schwannie: Tell me about it.  On second thought, don't.   :-[

The Roop:  Does that mean what we think it means?

Yes, The Prime Citizen said "You plan it" and The Roop said, "Ok. Vegas, Luxor, night helicopter tour and drive thru wedding in a cab". That last part got scratched as I found Graceland was half the price and also included a limo and photography. Original plan included the Hooters Resort and Casino but after "a look" I felt compelled to find different accommodations. That's how the Luxor came in to play.

But to keep on topic with the forum here; I sure hope Beloit finds a basketball tournament to play in out there in Vegas between 10/25 and 10/30.

Holy s*&#!  Should some little Roops be in the gameplan, "Scottie" and "Bucky" sound good - in that order.   ;D  Congrats.

LU@Ripon is the formality that sets the MWC field tonight. I know it's a rivalry game but Ripon will win at home. Lake Forest, with possibly the most boring venue in sports entertainment hosts. Who is the NCAA rep this year ?? And how badly will they get beat in the first rounnd ??

Dalton for a boy, after Timothy Dalton, the greatest Bond ever. Or Tatiana for a girl. I have a friend in Russia who's name isn't Tatiana; we just think it's "cool like that" sounding.

Perfect year for the MWC to get 2 teams in the NCAA tournament. If Lake Forest can win at Grinnell Saturday and then win the first MWC tournament game they will be 22-2. Then they can lose the MWC final (to Grinnell) and good chance they won't be dogged by the NCAA with a 22-3 record for some team with 6 losses from a "better" conference.

OBC

Does anyone know: If Ripon loses and Carroll wins on Saturday, who gets the 4th seed?

They split head to head, they both split with Grinnell and St. Norbert, they both lost twice to LFC. What's the next tie breaker?

I can't believe a team with Ripon's talent is on the verge of being shut out of the tournament. I really believe if they get in it, they can win it. Not that they will win it necessarily, but they can score with anybody.

Roop, is big blue going to decide who gets the 4th seed this Saturday?

hickory_cornhusker

I don't know what the next tiebreaker is but if you kept going down the conference standings looking at Carroll and Ripon's record against the next best team it will eithet be Beloit (if Lawrence loses to SNC) or Beloit and Lawrence (if Lawrence wins). Carroll is 2-0 vs. Beloit. Ripon will be 1-1 vs. Beloit with a loss on Saturday. Carroll is 1-1 vs. Lawrence. Ripon is 0-2 vs. Lawrence. So Carroll would win the tiebreaker in either senario.

If they go by head-to-head point differential, Ripon beat Carroll 78-72 in overtime. Carroll beat Ripon 85-69.

If they go by conference point differential Ripon is currently +25 and Carroll is currently +23. But with a loss by Ripon the best conference point differential they could have would be +24 (if they lose by one) and with a win the worst conference point differential Carroll could have would be +24 (if they win by one).

So to answer your question: I don't know for sure but most tiebreakers I looked at favor Carroll. I also am a Carroll alum so you can take that for what its worth.

hc - they will go by Ripon beating Beloit on Saturday, giving Ripon 11 wins. Since St. Norbert isn't likely to tank one against Lawrence, no tie breakers will come into play this year.

@Lake Forest vs. Ripon
Grinnell vs. St. Norbert

That is the MWC Tournament.

If I had to put money on it I would probably go with your scenario. But I'm hoping for the stars to align for Carroll. Beloit is a lot better than they were even a couple of years ago but from an objective point of view I think Ripon has too much talent and too much on the line to let this one get away.

If only Carroll hadn't lost twice to the Scots......
