I was actually about to compliment everybody on this thread for allowing me to have a counterpoint to their Grinnell distaste without slamming my karma but then somebody went and dinged me.  Oh well, for everybody else I appreciate you allowing me to play devil's advocate.

But you can't argue with results. GC has been dominant in the MWC since the System started. I suspect that most of the hoo-haw that rises up after each GC victory or record has its roots in this GC success.

Cool. We agree to disagree. But the one thing you can't say about GC is that it isn't good. Because records don't lie. GC is good.

I'd hardly call Grinnell's MWC results dominant.

Including the 2000-2001 season, they've won 3 regular season championships, and split one with Lawrence.  St. Norb's has 3 and Lawrence has four and split with Grinnell.  Lake Forest has the other one.  However, Grinnell has only ONE conference tourney championship, despite having the #1 seed four times.  And, has Grinnell ever won an NCAA game?

I'm not hating on Grinnell.  I know players from past teams.  But a comment like GC has been dominant is a stretch.

Madzillagd - I was wondering about that too. I thought your statements were spot on. If that fairness line weren't so fluid, some of the arguments others have made might hold up. Not saying I agree with every word - what fun would that be! You have to watch it here; that I learned years ago when I posted regularly. Most of these...um...gentlemen just plain HATE Grinnell. Its been that way for years.

I especially love the stuff about how Grinnell didn't play the system the way it is supposed to be played! I'm sure coach A will be more than willing to give competitors a play by play game plan for the next match so competitors can have a fair chance against them. Geez, I'm gonna pee my pants laughing at that one. Getting too close to defending us ner-do-wells is probably what got you dinged.

Point Spec..I mean Greek Tragedy, I think what jeffdc means is that GC has been in the top 4 of the conference consistently for many years now (yeah, I know there are a few exceptions)...my guess is more than any other team...but I may be wrong on that. We are all well aware of our failure to crack a win in the NCAA tourney, but we'll keep tryin'.

Yeah, ok. I'll try to be more obnoxious after the next game record(s) is set.

Glad to see JeffP's name on the "most recent post" line.  I had to check it out.

With all the publicity a friend of mine in KC was asking about The System.  I told him he needed to make a trip up to Grinnell to see for himself.  I haven't seen you around here in a while so I didn't know if you were still around.  I did tell him to get some coffee before the game and tell the small, grey-haired hippy that HoopsFan sent him.

I'm not sure if he'll make the pilgrimage, but I put in a good word for you.

Hoops! How the heck are you! Not really sure how long I'll be here. Just stopped by to rouse some rabble. You take care and stop by if you are in the area! Happy Thanksgiving!

Grinnell's system is exactly why they don't do well in the MWC tourney or the NCAA tourney on the rare occasions they get there.  A well-designed "system" gives inferior talent a chance to compete with superior talent.  The Grinnell system does exactly the opposite.  Like last night, it allows them to run teams not nearly as good as them off the floor.  However, teams of equal or better talent aren't scared of the press and break it and at least somewhat slow down their barrage of three pointers.  Grinnell will never win an NCAA game as long as they run it.

You guys should ask Carroll and St. Norbert for advice...

Don't think so, Rat. We're havin' too much fun doing it our way...and listening to all y'all going apoplectic over it!

I found you on Facebook.  We can keep in touch.  I have no idea when or why I might be in Iowa again anytime soon (living in Delaware now), but I will definitely stop in for a Roopacino and a scone the next time I'm there.

Last I knew, Saints Rest played some of the best acoustic rock that Louisville (ca. 2004, but still timeless) had to offer.  Can't wait to make an appearance someday - perhaps when the Good Guys clinch the MWC at Darby.   ;)
