So aside from The Roop, anyone going to be at Saturday's game in Beloit?

I just realized that Galena, IL - where I spend Thanksgiving - is within reasonable driving distance (less than 2 hours) of  Beloit.

After spending two days with my family, I might want to get away for a while.  ;)

this is really starting to suck. Next GC away game is also on ESPN3. Those of us fans without cable are....out in the cold.

ESPN3 is an online network now known as Watch ESPN--everything is streamed online at: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index?

No cable subscription is required.

The point here, however, is that the 152-76 win very likely was a TEAM victory by GC and the ultimate version of the system - NOT an individual showcase - with many double digit scores, equal distribution of playing time combined with a gazillion turnovers and terrible shooting by the Good Guys, etc.  It was record-like by fluke, not by intention.

Scottie nailed it. Here's the box from that 152-76 game back in February of 2004. Twenty Grinnell players saw the floor that night, with ten of them playing double-digit minutes. Nobody played more than 17 minutes; while one of the three players who reached that 17-minute mark of playing time, Steve Wood, did score 43, you can't really call that atypical for a System team's designated shooter. Four other Pioneers besides Wood scored in double figures. Scottie also accurately described how poorly his boys played; the Scots turned the ball over 36 times and shot 44% from the field (which doesn't sound terrible until you consider how many of those misses were most likely blown layups).

Gregory: Thank you.  You are FINALLY acknowledging what the MWC regulars have known for years.   ;D

What? That you have a good memory for ten-year-old Monmouth losses? ;)

Gregory:  You obviously don't have a very good memory for North Park's national championships....you have to keep them under your thumbnail pic so you don't forget! ;D

Actually, that's not quite right - if you try to view a game, a box pops up saying you have to be part of a specific 'participating' cable provider. So at least around here, you have to have the right cable package to view.

It's your internet service provider, not necessarily your cable tv provider.  If the game was on an actual ESPN channel, then you would need to subscribe to the channel to watch online.

Got it. Thanks. In the end, it's a bit of the same out here in Grinnell. We have the option of Windstream or Mediacom. The latter pretty much mandates that you take a cable package w/the internet service. The former does not.

No word as to whether the game will be televised but it sounds like the ESPN folk will be in Beloit Saturday when Grinnell comes to town.

You have to do a play by play on Twitter or something for those of us who don't have cable....

Good lord, my thumbs hurt just thinking about trying to do play by play on twitter for a Grinnell game.

Carpal tunnel anyone?  ;D :o

No more painful than watching one.  :o

The Roop

Can't believe somebody from Ripon didn't beat me to it. RC 76 BC 60. I have a hard time believing Ripon only shot 54.8% and Beloit shot as well as 50%. Seemed like Ripon had 5 Terry Kramers on the floor at times and couldn't miss. The difference however was rebounds where Ripon was +9 at 31-22 and free throws where Ripon was +12 at 18 of 20 to Beloits 6 of 9.

Grinnell on Saturday then Whitewater on the 3rd. Shot selection needs to improve, specifically don't rush something up in the 1st 5 seconds of the possession as you're not likely going to have anyone in position to get the rebound. After those 2 contests they have 7 of 8 on the road.

Mr Roop, this is very disturbing to me.  I expected that Ripon would take a few years to recover from the loss  that 240 lb. guard who scored all their points the past few years.  And one suggestion--you don't need rebounding position when you make the shots.

I believe that's what I was saying in my last post. Take good shots and there are no rebounds. Ripon did that, Beloit didn't. Translation = Beloit got out played. 21-2 should still make the conference tournament, I'm not giving up hope yet. Since Hope isn't on the schedule I'm not worried either.

Obviously todays Lawrence fans have no idea of who Terry Kramer was but I believe I was very complimentary in my last post. BAZINGA.

Grinnell 128
Beloit 120

Ok, Mr. The Roop...what's the low down? As I said earlier, these last two games should tell us a bunch about Grinnell, but since I wasn't there and didn't see the games on line I'm not sure exactly WHAT it tells us (unlike some of us here, I'm unwilling to make snap judgements about teams/games I didn't witness in person). We've had 3 wins against solid D3 opponents - including two conference road games against two teams (ok, at least ONE team...two if I count Mr. The Roop's early evaluation) I thought might be near the top; we've had 3 different scoring leaders, and the only conclusion I'm willing to draw is that GC distributes the ball well and finds the hot hand when needed. Nice start to the Conference season!
