Couple late night q's to hopefully generate discussion tomorrow.

1) Can someone recap the tiebreakers? While I think LU reaches the tourney undefeated, the team with the best shot to knock us off is of course Carroll.  Assuming that Carroll beats LU (hard to imagine I know!  :D) and both teams win out, they'll finish in a 15-1 tie.  Will it end up being margin of victory since common opponents would even out in that scenario?

2) Assuming LU wins out this weekend, do others think they're a shoe in for the #2 ranking? Either Wittenburg or Wooster will lose this weekend since they play each other on 2/4.  Or do you think that Wittenburg might just switch places with Wooster if they lose...I'd doubt it (I think Witt would drop to #3 with a loss and Wooster would drop to #4 or #5 with a loss).

I think four games in one day is asking a lot.  Not sure what the traveling support is for various teams, but hotels for teams and fans might also be an issue?

Appleton has a really good # of hotels...unless there is a conference, etc. in town that is taking up a large # of rooms, I doubt that fans/family/teams would be hurting for lodging.  I think 4 games on Friday would be tough but doable.  I'd really hate to see the LU women win the conference and be moved (its not fair, but I can't see the men's team moving if we host).

Keep in mind too that most fans from RC and SNC (if they both seal up spots in either tourney) are easily within an hour of LU and would likely drive home in the evening.

I timed out while typing and don't feel like going through everything again.

No tournament in 83-84. So I'm correcting you this time Sam, not beating you to the punch.  :D

That's a redundancy, OS. All sectionals consist of four teams.

This hosting stuff is not a closely-guarded state secret, folks. The 2006 handbook is downloadable on a PDF file on the www.ncaa.org website.

True enough Greg, but I was trying to emphasize the difference between hosting a single playoff game and hosting a sectional [with four teams involved].  When it comes to doing all that with logistics and all, I'm sure it's a totally different animal and I wasn't sure if the NCAA had different requirements for single games and sectionals...and of course I was too lazy to look!

Amazingly enough. The NCAA does not prohibit the same school from hosting SINGLE GAMES in both the mens and womens tournament. 4 teams events aren't allowed though. I read the rule a week or so ago.

I think that if LU wins out this weekend, they definitely move to number 2.

I do not know the tie-breaker (have heard points), but think it is worth exploring....I think the Carroll game in Carroll will be very tough.  Obviously, whoever gets home court in the tourney will have an advantage.  If Ripon can beat Carroll at home on the 11th, it would make it all moot.

If both mens and women's teams win from a single school, I cannot believe they would make one of them move the game.......why do you play all those games all year????? They do not mean a thing if you do not get an inside into the NCAA tourney.  In the world of Title IX, I am not so sure it is an automatic that the women's game gets moved.

PS: good game in Ripon tonight....LU defense continues to lead the way.

I may be wrong but I thought if it came down to a tie it would go to the school that hasn't won a conference championship the longest (Carroll)  I believe a couple of years ago it almost came down to a tie and that is what I heard then.  Some one correct me if I am wrong.

Just a thought here...  IF both LU teams finished on top, is there a nice high school facility in the Greater Appleton area?  For as much respect as women's athletics get in this conference, they could play the opening day there and then play the championship game campus.   Heck, the high school gym might have a larger seating capacity than Larry U, anyway.

You guys don't see the IP addresses?

I wasn't aware of that. Wonder if I can get that changed on the software setup.

I don't mind it too much; there are some benfits of not having other people see my ip address either.  It makes maintaining some measure of anonymity easier.

I'm pretty sure the NCAA mandates that you host on campus.  Stevens Point had that problem the last few years.  I think they just pick which team is more worthy of hosting and give it to them.  I would assume if it came down to it, the men's team would win as they have a better national profile.

Also, I'm glad to see my support of Ripon held up well.  I didn't expect them to win, but they hung tough.  things will be interesting if they can keep it up through the rest of the conference schedule.

70-73 loss to the number 3 team in the nation is a good game.  Playing catch up to Larry is almost impossible because they take care of the basketball, and make free the clutch free throws.  No box score yet, more to come after I see that.

mwc, any comments?   I thought you said you were going to the game.

amazing stat line for Grotberg last night.  34 minutes and only 4 turnovers with 7 assissts.  As a guard in that type of game that is more impressive than the 37pts.

someone mentioned price and beiard were amazing.  Beaird with 9 assts. yes that is amazing, and Price well I believe i have stated my opinion of his game once or twice on here....

Here's to hoping MC will pound it inside as Price and Terwelp will both be back next year.....
