Lawrence wins 87-63. LU was up maybe 13 at half and I don't think Beloit ever got it into single digits. Hinz didn't get his 50 and 36 and I don't think even had a field goal until 10 mins into the game or so. Braier could have come close to a quadruple double -- as always, he was everywhere, points, rebounds, steals, assists.

Also... I think that Steven's Point trivia you are talking about actually IS Lawrence's Trivia, you just started playing a couple years after it started. It's true, you beat us in basketball, but I think half the LU basketball team skips games/practices when the trivia contest rolls around, it's that big.

Final from the 'Burg...
Knox 69 - Monmouth 65

Saw scottie and schwanman at the game tonight.  Was good to see you there scottie, hadn't seen you since that 48-0 Turkey Bowl beatdown of Knox back in November--I see schwanman around plenty as it is, but was good to see you too.

As for the game--seemed like a very ragged first half with neither team doing much of anything too well and Monmouth taking a 33-25 lead into the break.  The second half saw the Scots jump out to a 41-27 lead within the first 5 minutes or so, then had that lead completely erased in about the next 5 minutes as the Fire stormed back to take the lead 53-46 midway through the second half.  It was very tight the rest of the way with Knox making just enough free throws late to hang on for the 4-point victory.  Seemed to me that Monmouth had success and built their lead by getting the ball into Terwelp and Price but struggled when they went away from that and settled for quick jumpshots (most of which were missed).  Interested to hear what schwanman, scottie, or any other Scots posters that were there have to say on tonight's game.  One thing that was reaffirmed for me this evening--Monmouth definitely has better looking women than Knox. ;D

Don't have access to a boxscore, but here's my take on the Monmouth-Knox game:

Both teams were brutal to start, but the Scots shook out of it first and led 33-25 at the break. The lead was extended to 41-27, and it was easy to see how Knox got hammered twice over the weekend. But then the game turned. Moten, in particular, seemed like he was everywhere. Knox eventually went up by seven (I think), but the Scots tied the score at 61-61. With over a minute left, Maclin hit the clutch three that put the Fire back on top to stay.

Beaird hit a three late, but it was his only long one (only points, too?) of the game.

Terwelp was very strong for MC and probably scored around 20.

Well, well, well, Maverick has beaten me to the punch again. Well, never mind, I'm not going to delete everything I just typed.

Astute observations, Mav!

I can tell you with absolute confidence that LU trivia would destroy Chuck Norris in a cagematch, and would be second overall in NHL history in points scored.

After giving it much thought, I would have to predict a final score of ... Coach Ditka 72, LU trivia 3.

schwanman - You did hit on something that I forgot.  Moten was everywhere for Knox tonight.  Made alot of hustle plays and did very well when the Fire spread the floor, let him go down low to post up Beaird, and then just ate him alive several times around the hoop.  Not sure how I forgot about him playing as big as he did tonight.  Also, IMO, the final 3 by Maclin needed to be contested better by a Monmouth defender (not sure who was guarding him at the time).  In that situation late in the game, I just don't see how he one of the Scots could leave him that much alone with enough time to catch, square up, and shoot--and still not really get a hand in his face on the attempt.  Did you think that way too or am I off base here?  And was scottie heading back to the east side of IL tonight?

I think Braier won the POY tonight, totally dominating Hinz defensively.  Can't wait to see the box score, he just dominated him.   :o

Maybe Hinz had too much pizza this morning.  ;)

At least Ripon looked tough tonight.   ::)

Mav, I don't want to steal Scottie's thunder ... I think he has a comment on the Maclin trey. You're right, he'll be making it tomorrow after he gets back.

Hinz ended up with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 7-8 from the foul line.

Braier had 14 points and 9 rebounds. My favorite part though is that Braier had 7 assists and 0 turnovers, while Hinz had 2 assists and 3 turnovers. My other favorite part is that Hinz had 7 points 30 minutes into the game, and scored his final 10 when Beloit was down 20+ the whole time.

Oh yea, my final favorite part was that Hinz played 38 minutes, while Braier only logged 27. I vote Braier for POY.

PS -- Braier averages 19.5 rebounds a game against Grinnell in his career. I know it's not 36, but come on, almost 20 boards a game is ridiculous.
