I wonder what the record is for the shortest length of time as the lead feature story on the homepage of this site...  I think the "Lawrence Survives" story may have set the record.  What did we get, about six hours of daylight with this story?  Yeah, MWC!   ???

Oh well, at least we can now read about the CCIW and Wheaton's "flagging conference tournament hopes" for the next several days.

BTW - Pat, this IS whining.  I guess you showed me.

It's more than the 25th anniversary women's basketball team got, and that was a quarter-century in the making. Hey man, it's February, time is short.

mnelson, I love the posts, but if that is "not adding much" I'd hate to see your full analysis.  Maybe they'd offer you a job at espn.com; those guys can write 5,000 words about anything.

I see my whining may have got the MWC top billing for another couple of hours.  Lesson:  Whine to Pat.  He's really responsive to it.   :D

Pat:

Scottie is right.   I know you are the Imperial Wizard here and deserve the autocratic position you hold, but the LU story is far more interesting than Wheaton.  Hands down.

Have a nice day.  Yes, I am whining.  I wanted to do a haiku but an not at peace to do so.

Titan2000 might get himself banned for whining too much during the most stressful time of the year.

Since Sam did such a good job summarizing the LU - Carroll game, I won't add too much more.

Way to keep it short.  :D ;D ??? :P

Highly questionable call with 3.4 (that only the ref Koester saw that way) left that gave the ball back out to LU under their basket and lead to game winner.

I was watching that play from a pretty good angle, and it was a good call. What happened was MacGillis was looking for bradley under the hoop and Bradley put a move on his defender that also faked out MacGillis. Kyle's pass was headed out of bounds anyway, but LU got really lucky and the ball clearly went off a Carroll shoulder. Wasn't even a little nick, it bounced off of his shoulder out of bounds. LU got lucky on the play, for sure, as it probably would have been a turnover, but it did go off a CC shoulder and the ref made the right call.

I didn't get to see it but I trust vicar (and the oafs, as scared as that makes me!).  From my spot behind LU's bench, all i saw was a bad pass that went out of bounds.  At this point the CC fans were going nuts for the sake of going nuts (who wouldn't be!) so I couldn't read the crowd.  Scheper seemed hyped, but I couldn't tell if it was good hyped or bad hyped.  And the ref seemed to take forever to make the signal.  All I can recall is looking at my buddies and saying: "Is it ours?" over and over and over.

As a Carroll fan I can say that the ball did go off of Carroll, but what happen right after that is the ref pointed saying it was Carrolls ball and then all of the sudden turned around giving the ball back to Lawrence.  The right call was made but the confussion came from the ref calling it Carroll ball first.

Old Fighting Scot

im at work, bored and didnt get to see any MWC games last night, and MC made sure i wasnt able to post anything positive of their season i will point out some other factoids from the day after vday.

Earlier i started a ruckus by proclaiming Redlands U. 8-13&4-7(the system west) sucks.  Well last night they beat a top-20 Occidental and they had a guy for 57 while making 13 treys.  it was long a long time coming, but ill shut up...

Moreno Valley H.S. (my hometown school) beat Compton H.S. 62-60 in a wild card playoff game.  Compton had more athletes (evidenced by their seemingly 20 dunks and blocked shots) but MoVal was better coached playing only 6 guys all night (had 18 dressed) and getting a lot of easy baskets.

The three original Moreno Valley H.S's (in 98 there were 4 now there are 8) all got first round victories.  But will all go on the road tomorrow night playing top 5 teams. bittersweet.

Kevin Bradley is a gamer! he does not seem to be your typical 'great' player but boy has he had some huge moments this year.

Congrats to the top 3 MWC teams, and shame on every one else.  the 4th team will back into the playoffs and will/should be quickly disposed of.

Also congrats to CC as it looks as if they have locked up a tourney bid (#3 in region).
I could be wrong, but I doubt it....

Greek Tragedy

Any of you "system" guys know of any high school teams that play it?

On a side note, I would've taken a lead pipe to the girl who scored 100+ points in that 100+ win in that high school game.  I'd foul her everytime she got the ball...hard.  She'd be yelling "Why me?" a la Nancy Kerrigan.

Now that I have meditated and considered the error of my ways (making any suggestions to Pat on how the site content could be improved), I sat down, kit some incense, and wrote this haiku as atonement for my sins:

LU won the game,
Should be enough happiness, :)
Pat can't get me down.  ;D

We are without loss,
We host the fest at Alex,
The tourney soon here.

I await Carroll,
With their foul mouthed fans in tow,  >:(
Welcome to Alex.

When Wheaton will lose,  ???
It is an unknown to me,
They must be special. ;)

I think that's your biased opinion.

Hey, I'll be honest: Around the Nation is our lead column and I pay Mark Simon to write it. I would be a fool (and it would be a waste of our limited freelance funds) not to give it the most visibility possible.

The solution seems obvious to me. Instead of tugging on Superman's cape at every opportunity, Scottie and Titan2000 should simply slip some money to Mark Simon on the side to get him to write stories about MWC teams in Around the Nation. That way, everybody's happy. Right?
