Sounds like it was a good game up at Alex, can't wait to hear from someone that was actually there.  By the sounds of the webcast the refs were once again horrible, but LU pulled it out.  Congrats to LU for going undefeated in regular season this year what a great accomplishment.

#1 Wooster falls at Ohio Wesleyan today, 86-83.  So the poll's top spot is free for the taking by Lawrence.

Wow....

Can you see a bigger target on Lu's back this weekend then the NUMBER ONE RANKING IN THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!

WE'RE NUMBER ONE!!!   REALLY!!!!

ok, back to reality.  CC and whomever gets that fourth spot is gonna be gunnin exrta hard for LU now that they are gonna be number one, but its alex and its MWC tournty time, and they come up big in that situation.  I think LU takes the number one ranking into the NCAA's and we all see what happends from there.

Wow...LU is number one...I still can't believe that would happen.

Baldwin-Wallace (the other team to receive a 1st place vote in the last poll) went down today to Capital, so no one should stand in the way for LU to take the top spot next week. Congrats to the Vikings on a great regular season - let's keep it going into the national tourney.

Now, we (LU fans anyway) just need the women to beat St. Norbert to have both MWC tourney's in Alex.

Knox 77, Illinois College 75 - FINAL

First off, congrats to Larry. It would certainly seem like they are in position.

Now to you question about the target...With the winner of the tournament getting to go to the NCAA, the fact that Larry is ranked number 1 or number 25 is incidental. Everyone there is playing to get the automatic bid. If they're not, their reason they're there is all wrong. (Had to re-write that to get all three versions of the homonym included!) ;D

CC 79 BC 76.

Reminded me a lot of the game @Carroll this year. Beloit had their chances at the tying three in the final minute but got a little careless with the ball. Tough one to loose but still a great game. Knox won their way in and I'm content with that.

Charlie Kohawk

In his first year as head coach, Lawrence alumni and former assistant Pat Juckem has guided the Coe Kohawks to an Iowa Conference co-championship and the #1 seed in the IIAC tournament. With one more win, the Kohawks will have their first 20-win season in 30 years. Lawrence backers should be proud. I know the Coe community is thrilled with his performance.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Entertaining game at LU today.  STN is definitely improved from early in the year and will be a threat next year.  They had LU down for the first 3/4 of the game.  They shot lights out the first half...due primarily to good shooting (they are a pretty quick team), but also due in part to uncharacteristic poor D by LU.  They gave up more open shots in a half than they usually do in 3 games.

I do not hear the webcast, but the officiating was fine.  Probably just some homers bitching.  LU was only called for two fouls the first half.  That was not bad officiating, just indicative of the lack of intensity on D by LU.    Just like the Carroll game, officials had nothing to do with the game.  They were consistent both ways.

Defense improved the second half for LU and they eventually wore down STN.

Alex crowds continue to be crazy in size.  If you want a seat for a conference tourney game, get there an hour early.   I am glad that I am local and can get there early.  SRO again today and a great atmosphere with great senior class being recognized.

A little LU highlight reel on ESPN College Gameday? YES! Soon to be the #1 team in all the land? I sure as hell hope so!

All I can say is...I'm so proud of the guys at LU. This is a level I don't think anyone could have dreamed of at the beginning of the season.

LU LU LU!  ;D

Well Sam it has been 25 years since a MWC team was #1. Don't bet the farm that LU will automatically take that spot, they only got 1 first place vote last week after all. They might get #1 but somebody else will have more first place votes.

Crunch time for Grinnell begins now. LU is in, CC is in, Knox has no chance so Grinnell becomes the last best hope for the MWC to put 3 in the NCAAs. I would love to see that. The NCAA can't deny the automatic bid and two other teams have the points for Pool Cs. Awesome.

Mr. Ypsi

Wow, such paranoia! ;)

#1 and #4 both lost, and #3 lost twice - obviously Lawrence will be #1!  The only question is will it be unanymous, or will one or two voters cling to Wooster (or vote for Hope)?

IF LU wins the MWC tourney, they will undoubtedly still be ranked #1, and will become the first team in the (short) history of the d3hoops.com poll to finish the regular-season in first place after being unranked in the pre-season poll.

Regarding the officials performance... it is more than looking at the number of total fouls being called, but when on one end a touch foul is being consitently being called and hard body contact is made on the other end with no whistle... that is inconsistent.  this has happened at the last couple games i attended Lawrence ends up usually fairly even in foul counts but they are getting the crap kicked out of them in the process.  Simply teams are undermatched or underdiscipled against them so they try to beat them physically.  2nd, travels that doesnt document in the foul category but give me a break, SNC was walking all over the court.  3rd, when the coaches get in a shouting match with one another and the referee's dont handle the situation especially when the gym falls silent and one coach is swearly boisterously at another... that needs to be controlled.  And game control is not there and hasnt been there for quite some time.  As an experienced referee who has worked on top amateur levels the games were not handled well, as they usually arent, by these MWC officials, and something needs to be changed

Come on....are you guys complaining about the refs in the LU game?  That was my uncle....be easy now
