LU nut - You make a great point. This LU team, which I have a lot of respect for, has been held back in the Midwest Region/Section for 3 straight years.  The game we saw/listened to tonight was a classic and as Titan Q said on the broadcast...Lawrence deserves to be referenced as one of the d3 powerhouses, just as Hope, Witt, UWSP and IWU.  LU has hosted this sectional with tremendous pride and class, despite the outcome tonight.

The Roop

Why does every place in the Appleton area stop selling beer at 9:00PM. Ordinances gone array can be the only explanation. Fortunately the Hatley BP (Marathon County) appeared over the horizon at 11:54 and I made it with 2 minutes to spare. This Buds for Roop..............

Quite the game tonight. IWU pulled it together in the second half, when to be honest, I wasn't overly impressed with them up to that point. I never really noticed the height advantage many were so concerned about. The 3s started falling for them and they were able to deny the cutter down the middle. That was probably the biggest factor in the come back. It took LU out of their game and they put up a few shots way too soon. You can't get the rebound if nobody on your team is in position.

Since I didn't think I could pass for an IWU fan wearing a Beloit shirt tonight, I am in need of a ticket for tomorrow. Hate to whine but I don't feel like getting to Appleton when the ticket office opens and then have to wait another 6 hours for the game to start. I like the Nickel but I also need to be able to drive home.

Congrats to LU on an amazing season.  IWU is defintely a tough team to run into and definitely like they have been playing the past 2 weeks.  I would be scared to be any possible IWU opponent for the rest of the year.  It looks like this senior class has finally started to play like they should be.

Once again...congrats to all of the LU seniors on great careers and on being the last undefeated team in all of college basketball.  It is quite an accomplishment what this LU team has done and hopefully LU can transfer this year's success into a nice MWC vs. CCIW rivalry which would be a very cool thing for the area.

Well, Shiest :'(

Congrats to Lawrence and Carroll for great seasons and seniors with great careers. Success ain't just about winning (jeez, how trite!) and I think we will probably hear more from some of these graduating characters, don't you?

I propose we move the whole MWC to Wahoo, Nebraska next year for obvious reasons.  ;D :D ;D

Hey, Scottie! You got finally got the top story coverage from d3hoops for Larry and the MWC that you have wanted! Cool, huh? ;D :D ;D

Congrats to Larry; great season.  Just remember, you do have a pretty talented young core of guys who now have some really, really big game experience to build on.  This should serve them well in the future.  Plus, not making it out of the sweet sixteen might just mean you get to keep your head coach!

Also, one comment on the refs.  I think its true, letting them play is fine and I appreciated the way you articulated things LU_nut.  Jeff might remember when I was at the GC-Larry game, I metioned how tight the refs were calling the game and how atypical that was, in my experience, for d3.  Perhaps being accustomed to a tight game ultimately had an effect down the stretch.  As for that picture, in most d3 leagues, that's a travel every time, unless he gets the ball away before moving his feet.  Just an example.

Lawrence is really a first-class program.  I'm still somewhat in shock IWU won the game, really.  I knew the Vikings would be good, but I don't think I realized they'd be that good.  Wow.  A well-coached team with very talented players...it was a pleasure to watch them play.  And Alexander Gymnasium is a very cool venue - a ton of charachter in that building.

Sorry your season had to come to a painful end...I remember how tough last year was to swallow as an Illinois Wesleyan fan.  You live and die with your team and it's just very difficult to see them lose a heartbreaker.   Take comfort in the fact that as long as John Tharp is in Appleton, Lawrence will be a Midwest region powerhouse.

I also heard last night that Lawrence has a stud recruit from Iowa coming in next season...6'8" and impressive...

Congratuations to LU for a great run.  I was impressed with the execution of the LU offense.  Very well done.  Extremely disciplined offense.

Enjoyed the atmosphere of the Alex.  It is a classic.

Agree with everyone, it was a wonderful year and the cupboard is full on freshman/sophomore players like Kroeger, Kadison, Page, Wendel, Lee, and all the others, plus recruits.  Plus Hurley, Osland, Rosenblatt, and a host of others waiting to lead the 2006/2007 charge.

And possibly the best coach in d3--I am optimistic and proud of the LU team !!

See you in the fall !!

Lawrence had a magical season, and i cannot believe even now that we dropped that one.  I believe that the referees didnt determine the game, but they swung the momentum hugely in iwu's favor during the second half... couple examples, brier getting elbowed in the adams apple no call, hurley boxing out foul for an apparent hook, kroeger gets chucked to half court no call, kroeger gets knocked into the iwu bench, travel; furthermore, when two players start going after one another arnold and paige and the refs dont take control there or merely attempt to by calling a tickytack foul on the other end.  I just dont believe that these officials should be working that high caliber of a game that this was.  i believe in reference to the travel call against bradley that cummings responded to.  i believe the argument there is not travel or no travel, but how is that not a foul.  IWU has so much talent and for the first time Lawrence was unable to finish them off over the last couple minutes.  disaapointing, but anything less than the national championship would be when you come in 24-0.  I'm gunna miss those seniors!

Pat:

Since LU couldn't be on the front page for more than 2 hours when we were undefeated, I think its time to get the "ousted" stuff off the front page.  For example, you could have "Augie blasted" too.

I know you respect my opinion.  ::)
