I think a lot of GC's problems in scheduling are because why would a coach want to subject his players to that sort of work-out when they might only get a 9 or 10 point win out of it.  Now that GC has proven they can compete with very good teams and return most of their players, teams can count on a solid team and a solid QOWI number.  Of course that may have very little to do with it, but it would be one of the options in my mind if I were scheduling a team.

Am- where did you see the article on the website? I haven't been able to find it. My source just said NCAA DIII, so I apologize if I had the wrong source for the award.

I believe Whitewater is part of the Elmhurst Tourney as well, but I'm not sure. This stuff is still tenative, so.....

Not sure if this will work but

If the new regional proposal goes through, all those games except Kalamazoo will count. I'd say that's how Grinnell pulled off such a nice non-conference schedule.

Although Illinois Wesleyan athletic director Dennie Bridges isn't tipping his hand as far as who might be considered for the suddenly vacant Titans' basketball coach job, here are a few names, in alphabetical order, who could conceivably enter into the discussion:

John Baines, former IWU player, current Elmhurst assistant

Pat Cunningham, Trinity (Texas) head coach, former Illinois State assistant

James Lancaster, Aurora head coach

Jim Molinari, former IWU player, former Bradley head coach, current Minnesota assistant

Todd Raridon, North Central head coach

Ron Rose, former IWU player, current Bloomington High School coach

David Steinbrueck, current IWU assistant

John Tharp, Lawrence head coach

Just newspaper speculation, but it does seem like Tharp would be a good fit at IWU.  Anyone know if he'd leave Lawrence?

Why would Oshkosh play Grinnell ??  They couldn't handle the Lawrence defense, how will they run and gun with Grinnell??

You're comparing Lawrence with Grinnell?  If you are going to insist on comparing teams, compare them with a team that Lawrence actually had trouble with, Carroll (3 wins by a a total of 12 points)...and Oshkosh beat Carroll in Waukesha.

What's the new regional proposal?  If you are talking about the "holiday/break" windows, I thought that got shot down.

The New Regional Proposal would use guidelines set up long ago. Can't remember how long ago but I'm pretty sure the Continental Congress voted on it. It would consist of 4 regions and one of the regions (the west/region 4) would be everything west of the Mississippi River plus Wisconsin and Illinois as I recall.

I think the Daily Dose had something about it after the Holiday Break thing got shot down.

Mr. Ypsi

OS,

My memory of the 'holiday/break' window for being in-region was that it was not shot down, but only tabled for now.  Ralph?  Pat?

I'm sure that holiday break thing is fine with most d3 teams as now they can go home and drink egg nog all break.  Or maybe they drink "Roopacinos" if they hit the grocery stores by then.

Leaving Lawrence for IWU? Bah, what would be the appeal of that? Tharp is in the middle of monumental change in a mens basketball program for a college who is a least as strong academically as IWU.  He'll be leaving a tremendous legacy someday. What's the appeal of leaving a place that adores him to an environment where you will ... "never be bridges?" IWU is neither the earth nor the sun. They can't just get one of the best coaches in basketball just because they want him and their local newspaper feels like speculating.

Greg, I actually meant Picard's nephew. DS9 has never been interesting to me at all, much less to the point that I would know the actor names.

I think he would leave in a second - he has done everything he can at Lawrence, and IWU is one of the best DIII jobs in the country. Sorry LU faithful, but that would be a no-brainer. As good as LU has been under Tharp, it is not nor will it ever be IWU in basketball.

JeffP and I have not discussed any retail licensing arrangements, other than Grinnell using their endowment money to buy Saints Rest, so if you want a Roopacino in the mean time you either have to go to Saints Rest and get one; or come to my house and I can make you one.

I suspect reality is somewhere between these two sentiments.
