Five days in May is worth about the same as 12 hours in February, trafficwise.

And on the plus side, he and the Puget Sound coach are much better looking than the average coach/player of either gender that usually gets stuck up there... (cough)

I don't know; I was pleasantly suprised by Leigh Sulkowski when her 2,000 point story was on the front page.

I didn't have a problem with RMC's Megan Silva having her "mug" up there as the Josten's Award winner, rather than that one guy who won it on the men's side...what was his name again?  Something like Braier.  :D  She's much better looking than he is! lol  :P

I'm sure it doesn't hurt that your current proximity is a lot closer to the future Mrs. Point Special either.  :D ;)

Well, yeah, this one's a given.  I don't really think she would have appreciated me planning to pack all my stuff up here this weekend and heading home, saying "uh, yeah, I'll see ya at the wedding."  This isn't the first summer I've been here, though.  I (sort of) made up a half excuse last summer that I needed to stay up here to take care of my cat (sorry, her cat that she made me take care of for two years because she couldn't have one at her house, that now likes me more than it likes her... I think I can call him mine, is there an "eminent domain" rule for animals?) because it couldn't go to either of our houses for the summer.  There was that and the fact that my parents have treated me basically the same as they did when I graduated high school, which is basiclly the same as they treated me my sophomore year... so, would I actually GO home, I'd be a 24 year old living with the 'rents treating me like I'm 16...  A guy can only handle so much!

... and again, it doesn't really have to do with the city itself!  :)

I'm not a legal expert (we'll have to get DC to weigh in on this), but I think the precedent you're looking for is found in either finders v keepers or the "possession is 9/10ths of the law" clause.

You can usually tell how hot a destination is out west by how many California license plates you see on the street, the idea being that young Californians are always the first to jump on a trend and that the Golden State is not the sun-kissed paradise it once was.

(One of my best friends from NPU went to law school in San Diego and then moved to Seattle in the early nineties, where both of his siblings lived. His brother told him to get his license plates changed as soon as he moved into his new apartment in Seattle's U District. My friend said, "Why? Changing your plates is usually the last thing you get around to doing when you move to a new state." His brother replied, "Because if you don't, someone's liable to see your Cali plates and put a rock through your windshield if you have it parked on the street." Apparently that sort of thing is not uncommon in places such as Seattle, Portland, Denver, Boise, etc.)

As to predicting whether or not you'll be disappointed by Portland, April, I'm afraid that I can't. There's not much insight I can provide about someone who has just used the words "crazy awesome yarn store". Believe it or not, there are times when you are even more inscrutable than the Roop.  :D

I like knitting. Sue me. It's a great thing to do at the halftime of basketball games, watching movies, etc. When I know I won't have anyone to talk to (ie random schools with inactive conference boards), I usually bring something along to work on. Whenever you get married I'll make you two a blanket, and then you won't make fun of it so much. :P Either that or I could just give you the Wheaton colors striped blanket I made for myself.  :D

People in Washington hate Californians, it was really funny. I mentioned that I would like to move there some day when I was up there, and they were like, "Hey, as long as you're not from California...."

The Roop

She could be a candidate for the All Roop Team, but I have to actually see her play before she is eligible.

Nothing wrong with knitting. It's just difficult not to chuckle at a phrase like "crazy awesome yarn store". To my ears it sounds like "super intense spackling" or "incredibly gorgeous extension cord". So sue me:D

As for the blanket, when you give it to me and (the tardy) future Mrs. Sager I will duly thank you for knitting us such a great blanket in the orange and navy blue colors of my alma mater, Liverpool (NY) High School.  ;)

Quote from: diehardfan on May 17, 2006, 01:04:36 PMI know it's supposed to be cool, but I didn't think it was all that amazing. Which was disappointing, because when I was growing up, it was always the theoretical place I wanted to live some day. (It was probably at least partially a case of inflated expectations, it isn't terrible or anything.) Whidbey Island is super nice though. And I think taking a ferry to work every day would be super cool. Port Townsend has a great historic feel, and it has a crazy awesome yarn store. :D For cities, I'd pick San Diego, DC, Chicago, or San Fransisco over Seattle. Hopefully, when I go up to Portland, OR next month it won't be as disappointing as Seattle was.  :-\

HF's quip aside about the Bay Area being the real-gone place for hepcats, Daddy-O, Portland has been the hot city on the West Coast for quite awhile. For years now I've heard people from the Great Northwest refer to it as "the new Seattle". But now it appears that Denver is taking over as the new destination for cutting-edge youth on the left half of the U.S. map. You can usually tell how hot a destination is out west by how many California license plates you see on the street, the idea being that young Californians are always the first to jump on a trend and that the Golden State is not the sun-kissed paradise it once was.

I remember the bumper sticker from the state of Oregon about 15 years ago...

"Don't Californicate Oregon"

Also, my friends in Colorado now have some that they "hate" more than Texans, Californians.

In the late 1970's, when Texans were really discovering Colorado, the bumper sticker wars went like this.

If God had intended Texans to ski, he would have made bullsh*t white!

And the retort seen in Steamboat Springs, where Dallasites such as Doak Walker, Verne Lundquist and Dandy Don Meredith moved...

God intended Texans to ski.
He gave them money!

I also find it humorous that there are two rather large fellows in the background just gawking.  That adds character to the photo.

Personally, I think that it is funny that one of the "gawkers" is holding a camera.  Someone got a camera shot of the tip off, why not him?
