espn.com is stating something about the WSOP final table being pay-per-view.  What's up with that???

Oh, right, this is a basketball sight.  Um, let  me see...A European tabloid says that Pokerstars.net has Grotberg on their amatuer poker players to watch in 2009.  (After he concludes his eligibility, of course.)

Now for some REAL Basketball news:

Daughter has been cast as Wynona Ryd...I mean Abigail Williams in the Speaking Ring Theatre Company production of "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller. The play will be split into two twenty minute halves with shifts of five actors rotating every 45 seconds. All her lines will be delivered from at least 21 feet. Daniel Day-Lewis has been replaced by Bobby Long, John Grotberg and Davey Arseneault - all taking the customary 45 second shift. The story of course revolves around the Witchcraft that is Grinnell College Basketball. ;D :D ;D

The PPV is only for the live coverage today, Scottie.  You can still see the editted, taped version when it airs next month.

Jeff, speaking of Winona and the Crucible, are they sticking to the movie script, because if so this would be a second consecutive part involving nudity.  At what point does the proud father start to get worried?

Good catch, Hoops Fan.  I don't think I need to pay to watch it live.  as you know, the re-runs of the event will run thoughout the year...

Jeff P - Glad to hear "that girl" is still gigging.  I have no doubt she'll be discovered by Lorne Michaels very soon.

I'll be performing in Kansas City Dec. 29-31 if anyone is in the area.

I live in KC, although I'll probably be away for the holidays.  What performance is this going to be?

Hoops Fan-
Nope, they are doing a straight up revival of the Arthur Miller script. BTW, 'that girl' finally says she is tired of being a stripper-even if the TV interview posted earlier did help her get several auditions .

Scottie-
How did the TPC at Deere Run go?

scottie

Deere Run is next Thursday.

It's a copycat of the "Dean Martin Show" with a lot more music.

Got it, Scottie. However, if I was playing a course like that, I would have to START this Thursday to FINISH by NEXT Thursday.

But I always get my money's worth.

Sounds like we golf in the same division Jeff. I always consider it a success when I finish in the same dozen balls I started with.

Pay per view was on Directv, something I don't have.  I was looking foward to buying it because it gives you the full sense of the Final Table, not just those "race hands" where it's a pocket pair verse two over cards...I think if you weren't a poker player or have some kind of knowledge of the game, watching ESPN, the Travel Channel or whatever, you might think EVERY HAND is a race hand.  I would love to see those smaller bluffed hands, important hands that won small pots etc...With the condensed version on ESPN, it's tough to get a feel for it.  We see two hours, but the Final Table just took something like 15 hours to complete with nine players.

C'mon, Old School, this isn't a poker site!

It's a golf and Theatre site.

Sounds like a decent show, Scottie.  If I'm in down do I get comped tickets or do I have to pay like every other schmuck?

Unfortunately, you'll probably have to pay like every other schmuck.   ;)
You know, if you let one friend in - then.....  It's for a good cause, though...the "feed the Scottie fund."

We're doing two shows on New Year's Eve, if that helps your schedule any better.

p.s.  I'm also still shamelessly plugging a CD from a separate project if anyone is interested.  From what I hear, we're huge in Grinnell.   ;D  Probably great for poker parties, too.  Ha ha.

Well, we're going back to New England for the Christmas holidays, so it will all depend on how long we can stand the inlaws or how long our friends will allow us to squat in their homes.

Hoops Fan,

I think you'd appreci8 the show, it's 1derful ... and that's also a sneak preview of one of Scottie's clever bits.

All this talk about golf and poker has me itching to play both. I actually made my 2006 links debut last week and got through all 18 with only one ball (couple close calls with provisionals, but I always managed to locate the original Titleist 2).

My son got a great poker set as a gift a couple months back. Steel case, nice assortment of clay chips ... then proceeded to lock the case and lose both keys. I'm dying to go all-in, but first we've got to break in.

Good luck at Deere Run, Scottie!
