When I was in college we went up to Maranatha for a combined wrestling practice over winter break along with North Central.  I thought that the campus was nice, though my viewing of it was limited.

When I traveled to MBBC to play, the soccer field was on the baseball diamond and there were railroad tracks right next to the field! lol.  Anyway, I know they've upgraded since then...maybe they finally took the pitcher's mound out during soccer games.   :P

I remember playing one HS football game on a field that was also a baseball field .  Homeplate was down in one endzone corner and the infield was part of the football field, they did not take out the pitchers mound for football season.  I was playing center and the ball was placed on top of the mound for one play, very bizarre.  Both coaches wanted the official to place the ball to either side but the ref wouldn't bend.  It was a JV game so we improvised a shotgun formation play on the spot.  The play gained no yards but we got the spot of the ball moved to the center of the field.

I just decided that I think Phoebe Cates should be a permanent fixture on the masthead of D3 Sports.com

Anyone else agree?  If so, give me a Karma point or two.

I'm sorry, what were you saying? I was looking at the message above yours with the talk about the 'mound' being in play and the picture of Phoebe below it. To say the least I was distracted.

I saw her on some VH1 special (World cutest teen stars or something like that), and had to explain to my wife how EVERY guy my age had that scene seared into their memory. I also learned that she married Kevin Kline. Lucky b@stard.

SF86-
Does any of this remind you of our Grinnell experience? ::)
Sure...

They certainly have the equivalent of: the Relays, the Alice in Wonderland Party, the James Gang Bang, the Loose Hall Ball...

Damn. We were decadent; weren't we?

Coaches-as usual-are pretty mum about the newbies, but I hear there are a couple more guards, one 6'6" guy, and maybe a few more surprises. The team played well without Nordy second semester, and only lose 2 guards besides that. Both Kennedy and Carlson will be missed, but the core is solid.

I thought the MWC had banned Grinnell from recruiting until Grotberg leaves.

They have and Grinnell has complied, however the sheer gravitational force of Grotberg's talent has physically drawn other basketball talents to him.

The NRO Grapevine tells me that certain parties at Beloit wish to make it an alcohol free campus for athletes. In principle I might agree but in reality it isn't a good idea. A certain percentage of students are going to drink no matter what the rules say. So if you ban it on campus they will merely go off campus, that will likely involve driving back to campus afterwards; so I can't support such thinking.

The actual move is to prohibit athletes from drinking in season regardless of if they are on or off campus.  Makes sense to me, lets have a campus where a seventeen year old frehman (oops, first year students, can't use a term with man in it) can walk around with a fifth of Wild Turkey almost anywhere but a 22 year old football or basketball player can't have a beer after the game.  Just the kind of thinking needed to bring Beloit more in to line with similar schools like Saginaw State right KC?

fcnews

Fontbonne Univ. has had a 36 hour rule for athletes for about 4 years. The rule says any athlete caught drinking in the 36 hour period prior to a contest is in violation.

Basically it's just asking the student athlete's not to drink the night before a game. Pretty much common sense. Fontbonne is a catholic university and a dry campus.

I doubt the proposed policy would cost Beloit millions, but it could very easily cost them a couple hundred thousand a year if potential recruits chose other schools instead. I'm sure there are plenty of common sense team rules to cover something like this anyway. Why create a new rule to address a problem that I've never known to have existed in the first place ? Especially one that would be practically unenforceable.

I doubt they will charge. The current AD likes the idea of not charging. He believes it brings more families in to watch basketball and i would have to agree.
