With all the talk of Tharp eventually leaving you'd think that would lead to a bad recruiting year every now and then.

Tharp isn't going anywhere.  Who would ever leave the land of milk and honey, Appleton WI ?

How can he get a D1 job if he doesn't leave ? Unless you are suggesting that LU is going D1 in the future. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

I never said he wanted a D1 job.  you must have been in the roop cellar today.

Is there any Carroll fans out there with an inside scoop. Someone mentioned that Stratton might not be back. I hope that's not true, when that kid walked into an open three-pointer it was a thing of beauty.

That reminded me that I had actually heard a rumour right around when school started that Toshner would be graduating at semester and wouldnt be playing. I hope that neither are true for CC's sake.

I was the one who suggested Tharp would leave for a D1.  I just meant that a D1 job would only be the only thing that would get him to leave and that it would take a few more long post-season runs before they even sniff his way.

What will Toshner's degree be in?   Can't Schultz convince him to slow down and pay another $15K for the second semester so he can finish 2nd in the MWC again?  ::)

Maybe Carroll will have the replacement struggles of LU after all?

If the Toshner rumor is true slowing him down academically wouldn't do any good. He would need to maintain a full time course load to be considered eligible. That's not how the NCAA describes it but in plain english that is more or less what it means. Hopefully Pat will jump in and clarify if I'm too far wrong but I think I'm in the same county at least.

Is it too late for the Carroll Board of Trustees to pass a rule that any senior graduating a semester early gets three free classes the next semester as a thank you?

They give free audits at a lot of schools, why no stretch it a little?

Roop:

Couldn't he change his major and be "lost about his future" ??? for a semester, then change his mind in March after LU drums them out of the tournament and change it back and graduate?   ;)

After all, he'll need to go to some tech school after graduation to be employed anyway, won't he? :-*

My understanding of the eligibility rules states that he can graduate any time he likes. However, he must maintain a full time course load in order to keep playing.

What the actual value of a Carroll Diploma is I am not certain. However, I do enjoy the rumor that the IQs of both conferences went down when they left the CCIW and joined the MWC.

That's only fair, I guess, because rumor has it that the IQs of both conferences went up when Illinois College and Lake Forest jumped from our circuit to yours.  ;)

I know they are happy with the enhanced level of competition.   :o

If by "enhanced level of competition" you mean "no longer getting spanked in almost every sport", then, yeah, I would suppose that all three schools are happy with their "enhanced level of competition" in the MWC.

Between the three of them, Illinois College, Carroll, and Lake Forest spent 62 years in the CCI(W). They won a grand total of 22 conference championships between them in those 62 years -- but only two were in the major sports (football, men's basketball, baseball), as Carroll won the CCIW football title outright in 1976 and shared it with Augustana in 1988. Aside from those two titles, the only other CCIW championship won by one of the "big three" that postdates the 1963 assassination of JFK was Carroll's men's golf title in 1971.

In fact, if you take away the country club sports (tennis and golf) in which you'd expect Lake Forest to excel, the number of CCI(W) titles between the three schools dwindles down to seven. Illinois College never won a conference title in anything during their seven-year sojourn in the then-infant CCI.
