Then again...a restaurant themed around Phoebe Cates wouldn't be bad either.  ;D

Wikipedia lists 5-7 styles of pizza. I'm not sure I'd include California style or Greek style; I think those are not pizza in the traditional sense.

I'm not sure about Apizza (New Haven) or Detroit style. Anyone had either of these? I need a report!

If you have time, follow the St. Louis style link and read about the Provel cheese used on the St. Louis style. Parts of the entry are pretty funny.

Detroit style or "square" pizza as they call it in the Detroit area is ok.  The crust is similar to a bread that is crusty.  Buddy's is definitely the place to get it.  Not like a french bread pizza ala Stouffers, more like a thick crust that is baked.  I still long for Lou Malnati's regularly, there is a restaurant in the Uno's chain not so far from me, but is only good for an temporary fix.

I do like the Chicago style, but I am partial to the NY style which I love.  There was a place in North Chicago almost directly across from the Sheridan Road gate at the Great Lakes NTC that served both Chicago and NY styles of Pizza.  The guy that owned it was a retired navy cook from Brooklyn and his family owned a pizzeria there.  He used to always joke that the only real difference between a Chicago pizza and a Sicilian pie was one was round and one was square.  In Italy you will find mostly Neapolitan Pizza or NY style, Sicilian pizza or Chicago Style and what is more like  pie, it is a covered deep dish pizza filled with sauce, cheese, meat and vegetables.  All are actually better in the States.

I used to also get really good Chicago Style pizza at a little dive right down the road form the train station that all the trains from Great Lakes and Milwaukee pulled into.  Can't remember which station it was, but the pizza was great.  One of those places that a lot of commuters went into for a slice on their way home.

That's the one, Greg. Since my grandmother died and my grandfather moved to Minneapolis to be closer to my mom and cousins, haven't been there in a while. Next time McMillan and I make a football trip to CCIW country I should put it on the list.

Dang it Australopithecus. Now I can't think of the place you mentioned by Great Lakes. Rome & Corn perhaps ?? Not sure of the name but I've had their NY Style and certainly didn't mind it. If we ever get a Lake Forest poster here I'm sure they could tell us. It's practically walking distance from Great Lakes.

This place was right on Sheridan Road in North Chicago.  It was one of the few places on the strip we could go and get away from the pimps, dealers and Ladies of the Evening, not to mention the con artists and pick-pockets.  The neighborhoods outside of military bases is the same the world over.

The guys name was Anthony, or as he told everyone to call him, Antny, still had the Brooklyn accent and hadn't lived there for almost thirty years.  Not surprising, my dad still had his when he died at the age of 72, and he left Brooklyn in his teens.

That part of North Chicago/Waukegan/whatever city boundaries lie therein, isn't the best place to hang around in after dark. The name of the place still escapes me. Ask me after Feb. 2nd when I have a reunion of sorts for the BC @LF game. And then some revelry afterwards, in an equally questionable neighborhood of one of those cities.

Although I must question your assessment about neighborhoods outside military bases worldwide. Some neighborhoods in other countries have much better exchange rates. Git R Done.  ;)

After two months of Boot Camp and only getting to leave the weekend you graduate any thing looks good.  Besides someone might try to con you or pick your pocket, but nobody is going to jump 10 plus sailors.

I didn't go to bootcamp there. I merely went to bootcamp with someone that is from there. Waukegan specifically.

Amazingly enough I never encountered as many as 10 sailors at one time during my 4 years in the Corps. It wouldn't have mattered anyway. We all got along pretty well. Airmen however were another story.

But anyway, that's how I came to know the pizza places near Great Lakes. By visiting friends there after the service.

I used to date a girl from Morton Grove (the next suburb over) who swore by Riggio's pizza. That's how I know about it.

Is it DJ Pizza? North Park used to have a basketball player from North Chicago who would tell anyone who'd listen that DJ Pizza had a better pie than anyplace in the city. I always chalked it up to hometown boosterism ... but, then again, it's not as though I've ever had pizza in North Chicago, or for that matter anything else in North Chicago. As Roop suggests, North Chicago doesn't rank very high on the list of popular suburban destinations.

I really can't remember the name.  Back in 1980 in was recommended that we go out in groups when going out the North Chicago gate.  From everything I have heard NC is much nicer than it used to be and the Navy and town cleaned up the strip a lot.  That said, supposedly it is still a bad place to wander around in alone.

Beloit roster is now up on the website.  As mentioned by a previous poster, Tubbs is not on it but Puls  is back after missing all of last season with an injury.

On a very positive note, six first year players on the roster making this the second year in a row that they have had numbes in their recruiting class.

Well wadya know...

I just looked at the Grinnell schedule on this site, and they have non-conference games scheduled against Carthage, UW-Whitewater, @UW-Oshkosh, and Milwaukee Engineering (which while not a top team was still 17-9 last year). They also play either Elmhurst or Kalamazoo in the tournament game after playing Whitewater.

That looks like a significant upgrade in non-conference scheduling.

Hopefully its a good sign that these teams are willing to put another MWC team on their schedule. Oshkosh has four and Whitewater has three MWC teams scheduled.

Hopefully this tougher schedule has GC well prepared for the conference season.
