I'm off on a little recruiting trip tonight, to see next years POY in the MWC. I don't mind doing it I just wish Beloit would throw in a little something for my effort. Maybe mileage and per diem. I timed it after work today and it's nearly 9 minutes each way. Hard city driving too, think of the wear and tear on my vehicle. LOL.

PS. Better deliver that Lexus I've been promising the parents or he may go elsewhere.

OK, regular season is ready to start.  How about some predictions on who makes the top 4????

I think the top of the league is not going to be as good as it has been the past 3 years.   LU has been great for 3 years, Carroll for 2 and Ripon was two years ago.  Not sure any teams are yet at the caliber of those teams.

Here is how I see it:

1. LU: they will have to work for what they get, but think they have as much talent as anyone.

2.  Ripon: surely they will not burn me two years in a row.  Too much talent not to make the playoffs.

3.  Carroll:  going to miss Scheper and Toshner.  Will be up and down.

4.  Grinnell:  System with talent will bring a number of wins, but will not win a post season tourney in my view

I think IC, Monmouth and St. Norb will be improved and will beat some good teams at home.

Sorry Roop, but not seeing much out of your beloved Bucs to date.

LU_nut,

At the end of last year someone posted an article about John Dekker on the board, I rememeber he had some really big offensive numbers in high school. I figured he would contribute some as a freshman, but it looks like he has only appeared for a minute. Any word on the kid? Do you expect him to get more minutes as the year progresses or is there too much depth for to overcome right now?

I have not seen a lot of him.  I sense he is still adjusting to the jump in athleticism compared to HS ball and the defensive requirements.   while there are exceptions, it seems that players from small high schools have a bigger adjusment when they move on to college and often bloom a year or two later than kids that come out of bigger high school programs.   I have no idea as to what the rest of the year will mean in terms of playing time.

Nice exhibition game last night for GC vs. South Australia. Coach A played everyone, and really mixed up the shifts. The freshmen looked good, Grotberg looked good, Ticus and Long had fun--all in all, an enjoyable game. On to conference play!

An 0-3 start doesn't sink the Buccaneer Ship just yet as they weren't expected to win any of those on the road. Although I think they should have taken care of MSOE.

Proximity detectors have been installed at Flood Arena and Horton has been fitted with a special strait jacket. It will allow arm movement only on the offensive end of the court. This should eliminate the hacking problem.

in reference to dekker not playing.  2 reasons- one he isnt terribly good/fond of defense, which in tharpy's book gets you somewhere around 1 minute, and two he hasnt found his shot this year for some reason.  give it time though, they both should come then if he works at it more

Why would you recruit a player if you know he isn't (good)/fond of defense, since that is what your team is based on?  That's like Grinnell going out and recruiting someone who can't shoot...maybe Dekker should've taken his offensive skills to Iowa.  ??? :D
