FS13 and HoopsFan-
Look at thisa Grinnell team from another perspective:

1)What other team in the conference has 5 of top 10 players who are 2nd years?
For that matter, 3 of the top five?

2)One of the 3rd years is the same age as the 1st years-he is just now growing into his body.

3) Only one senior is in the top 8.

4) Hard to replace the leadership given last year by Paul Nordland-even when injured. Compare the records for the 1st half and 2nd half of the season last year to get some idea. None of the 3rd or 4th years have stepped in to a leadership role as yet.

5)Of the 5 3rd years who came aboard 2 years ago, only 2 are still playing. the 3 who left had significant minutes as 1st years. One of the 3rd years seeing a fair amount of time this year is playing BBall at Grinnell for the first time

6)This team has been so very, very hot and so very, very cold...so very, very typical of a team at any level that is dominated by 2nd years.

7) Kinda hard to tell about underachievment when one of the losses was to a MWC conference pre-season 1st place pick and one to a CCIW team that has played surprisingly well so far this year. Looking at Grinnell's schedule, I still wouldn't be worried too much if they end the pre-christmas schedule at 0-3 and 2-6. That would obviously require a fantastic 2nd half; something this team is entirely capable of.

Yup, I think I'll stay with my assessment-This is a very young team still adjusting to the intricacies of a very unorthodox, complicated style of basketball which, IMHO, takes a few years for even the best players to completely figure out and be comfortable with. And, as a 2nd year dominated team, my hope is that things will really begin to fall in place as the season progresses. I've already seen what they are capable of - both good and bad - and I also pretty much think we will be using the "G" word way more as the year unfolds.

Much harder to win a state title in Illinois than in Wisconsin where, in an effort to make more people feel good they currently play four divisions and are talking about a fifth.  Only two divisions and a ton of talent leads to some amazing competition.

And, AT LEAST for the top division, any team good enough to even compete for, much less win, the title is going to have a lot of d1 recruits, not d3.  (Though on SOME of those teams, their reserves might become high-impact d3 players.)

The Roop

Maybe. But I bet if those D1 recruits, or their parents, no longer had to parallel park by themselves that they'd come to a D3. YOWZA.........................

I've gone over to the dark side; I'm actively giving Roop positive karma now.  I now must respectfully resign my role as official NRO Universal Implosion Watchdog.

A car that parallel parks itself???....That engineer deserves a karma point....BTW, what car manufacturer offers that?

The Roop

Car manufacturer, what makes you say that ?? Maybe one of those Xylophone Techs could operate a valet parking service on a certain campus. Parking on a certain campus is rather limited, so such a service would help greatly. That's what I meant by my last post. No wrong doing was ever implied as far as you know.

Saints Rest Express, brand new science building,  xylophone tech valet parking....could be a great sell for a potential recruit to a certain campus...... ;D

The Roop

I hate to critique the post of a fellow NRO Member but you make it sound like you're talking about Grinnell. It's already been established that they have a sense of humor so you need to clarify who your whipping boy is. Work on it.......................

Hoops. While you are an NRO member you were not given any official title. Therefore you cannot resign without my permission. I respect your arrogance of assigning yourself a title so now you will have a new one. South Central Midwest Chapter President. Wear it well......................

CC 69 BC 33 with 11 to go in the second

Hey Kim Chandler, had enough yet?

I know Horton is not playing for the Buc's but really..................

GC 143, MC 125

Got to give the MC team points for staying in the game, especially during the second half when they were rarely less than 15 points behind. But they couldn't overcome an especially hot shooting GC team. More from JeffP, I'm sure.

But this was an 'on' night!
Threes are better than twos....

ah, schiest! dc beat me to the punch! Again!

WAY more beast than bunny tonight! 20 treys in the first half, great shooting nights for Long, Grotberg, Schmidt, Langenhan and Chamberlain. Great ball handling from Davey. For 25 out of 40 minutes the system worked the way it is supposed to: drive the lane, kick out to the shooters, ID the hot hand and get 'em the ball til they go cold then find someone else. Truly a thing of beauty. Plenty of kudos to go 'round with good contributions from others as well. Monmouth is a solid team and a could be a contender this year, but when the beast shows up...
It is already 2 hours past my bedtime so nighty nite I go with dreams of Saints Rest Express and BC censorship dancing through my mind ;D :D ;D ::)

More tomorrow; lots to talk about.

Are there any meetings, events or duties for which I can flaunt my arrogance by ignoring?
